Underrated comment

Lu Dort used to

I wonder if people here stopped hating on him because they don’t watch the Hawks or because they don’t hate the Hawks.

We’re already getting “used to” comments about Dort almost like 90% of the hate was just bc he was on the Thunder

I dont really even think Wemby flopped there, I think he just lost his balance and the refs took it personally.

Clean ethical flopping 🤓

yep luka doncic is the only ethical nba player. Everyone else shai wemby are very unethical.

Ayy Wembley. I like that. I’m gonna start using it!!

Naw, we can hate both.

Only if he beats Luka in a tight mvp race.

From young dumb Redditors.

That’s because he’s also a huge prick and narcissist

It looks terrible in writing, but “flail” plus “alien” rolls off the tongue pretty well

I disagree. This is exactly the cause for having bigger teams and getting coaches who barely play their 9th man out of the league, as well as front offices who don’t build balanced/deep rosters. If you look at the NFL, MLB, NHL, and soccer, all those sports utilize their full rosters on a regular basis, because the depth is important, to keep guys healthy, not just cover for when they’re not. For the sake of health & safety, make changes to lighten the load on players’ bodies. The league isn’t going to shorten the schedule from 82 games - because it’d be bad for revenue & TV, but it would also be bad for record keeping. But the league can and should shorten the overall workload on the body of the regular starter/rotation guy by shortening the total minutes on fast paced explosive plays with minimal rest. They can achieve a good start to this by limiting back to backs, shortening travel, and making rules changes similar to what the original commentor said. They can further that by doing some studies and establishing standards/recommendations for workload over time, say “recommend no more than X minutes over a rolling 5 day span for a healthy uninjured player” (not a rule, but a target). They can set minimum minutes for all players (NOT per game, but over a season, or per week or something), forcing teams to strategize their bench utilization beyond “star load management”. It would also encourage (almost force) real investment in development of rookies. None of those other sports are perfect - they have injury issues that aren’t well addressed right now as well - but they’re all making steps to help some of those issues. The NBA has taken zero steps so far on player safety.

Edit: note I forgot to add… Switch to series like baseball. Play your back to backs against the same damn team in the same damn place. You don’t need every team to visit every city, but even if you don’t change that… Make at least the divisional opponents be your back to backs, and set them up in a series format, and you’d significantly decrease travel miles and impact.

Yeah like you can literally watlz to the food stalls in the arena and back while carrying the ball on your hip these days. It makes the defenders have to work even harder staying locked in with hand checking which is still a thing.

Like Castle is my favourite player right now. He absolutely palms the ball every single time he dribbles down the court, holds that shit up with his palm underneath, stopping the ball then continues his dribble especially when he backs guys down around the arc to protect the ball. Wtf is that.

Then he straight up mugs guys with two hands on their hips, swatting the arm to disrupt the dribble, etc etc.

I’m saying this as an example of trying not to sound biased, every team does this nowadays. the advantage of getting away with dribbling violations to me forces teams to defend much more aggressively and then that just exacerbates everything. The players bodies pay the tax of that style of play.

i’m ranting now, I was hoping this would be a fun game but it was sad hahaha :(

The in season tournament has also made this worse. Teams have to ball out even in crappy matches on back to backs.

10 more to go.

Apparently, 13 back to backs is the lowest amount this season.

13 B2B: 7 teams

14 B2B: 8 teams

15 B2B: 12 teams

16 B2B: 3 teams

That’s crazy. I actually like Doc Rivers’ suggestion that there should be more B2Bs, but they should only be home games, which would give teams more days when traveling between away games. Obviously I’d recommend fewer games and other options before that, but assuming nothing changes about the schedule or rule changes within the game, I think it would work much better than what we have today

Wemby was theatrical as fuck last playoffs, this is revisionist. He embellishes contact as bad as anybody.

And nobody gets calls in the playoffs, it’s the fucking playoffs they let them play.

Spent all game on his back into 29 points in 24 minutes

I used to play like Embiid

I wish you were around his MVP season. Saying things like this would get you downvoted to hell even though it’s true

The Embiid “falls” are fine. But watching a 7ft 300 pound dude dive at people’s knees in the paint drives me crazy.

Man the nbacirclejerk bot would be all over this thread

It’s the yelp out every time that makes it flopping there.

It’s why I get annoyed with how people talk about Deni. He’s not flopping, as he’s trying to score every time. He’s also yelping every play. It is a different dark art.

Yep, if he’s choosing to fall like that then it shouldn’t be a foul.

Yeah, Shai pretty clearly does the same thing

What doesn’t make sense is that people are getting fouls called on them. So Wemby gets to fall to protect himself plus gets a couple free throws and has the bonus of fouling out someone he doesn’t want in the game. That’s the part that pisses everyone off.

Wemby has twisted his ankle like 3 times in the past few games and is still good to go because of his preventative injury training

Let me ask you this, if there was no foul on those plays and they were so egregious, why didn’t Portland challenge a single call last night? Not one coaches challenge.

It quite literally is safer and better for your body, though. Trying to land on your feet as a 300 pound 7 foot alien is how you get injured

Including the comment you responded to lol.

Wemby has S tier pr and glazers.

Y’all have been bitching about Wemby all off season, what do you mean 😂

I like Wemby so why would I hate on him? I also don’t like SGA so why would I NOT hate on him?

Nah he’s just like the rest of them he flops a shit ton

It wasn’t Embiids game either until it became what he did

Wemby isn’t even flopping really at least not all of this video is flops.

He’s said he’s been working on his fall since before he was a rookie to make sure he doesn’t fall in an uncontrolled way because with his body it can be really easy to get injured by falling.

You can even see him falling after the call here in the first example. He probably would rather fall in his terms than fall randomly.

It’s not a major component of SGAs or Hardens offense either lol. It’s literally just a tactic every high level scorer uses

Don’t come with reason and logic when people try to make simple arguments to feel smart

“most of their game exploiting fouls” okay pal you clearly don’t actually watch them play (at least prime harden). Are they typically good at getting fouls called? Sure. But neithers offensive game is predicated by getting foul calls. Both are/were based on being really fucking good at putting the ball in the hoop, and I despise harden lol

Most fgm last season and AR and Luka combined for more than 2 shais in FTA’s per game both this season so far and last. You’re straight up dumb if you think most of his offensive game is free throws.

If you lead the league in drives to the paint for multiple years in a row, you’ll probably draw more fouls.

Y’all literally spent all of the off-season slandering him, what are you talking about?

We’ve reached a point where the majority of people who criticize “the media” have no idea what they’re talking about. “The media” has just become a stand in term for “people I don’t like”

Especially when it was just compared to four random players and zero evidence was provided for the stat itself

Luka doesn’t spend as much time on the floor: he may flop, but he stays on his two legs, then goes to argue with a ref on a live possession who didn’t call what Luka thought was a foul. But he doesn’t actually fall to the floor to sell the call.

Nobody’s stopping you from making a video like this for Luka

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Somehow? He is literally following his example every other possession now. what somehow?

Just wait until he gets an MVP… or 2.

Somehow? Guys top two player in the world but the dude did a self campaign for mvp could you imagine if Shai did that? He also has more flagrants in one post season run than Lu Dort in his career.

That’ll happen when you start playing dirty on the biggest stage during the finals

There really is a difference in how and when they fall

Raja bell erasure

Wemby is just awful to watch, that stretch where he flopped three times in one quarter and got foul shots each time really took the wind out of the game. None of them were even shooting fouls.

I can’t wait for another zen monk training montage or whatever when throws his next elbow into someone’s neck but he’s quickly become one of my least favorite players to watch.

Exhausted players = more falling to the ground

Typical thunder fan

hey hey don’t drag our name into this.

He said it last year, I doubt he’s completely changed his mind on that since then lol

He did tonight trying to foul bait castle

Does the commentator keep that energy for this own team? No? Then he gets no sympathy from fans. Like it or not, the biggest sin one can commit is hypocrisy.

Generally yes, but there’s also something to be said for those in glass houses not throwing rocks.

The difference is that Wemby falls on the floor to prevent injury, same as Embiid.
