After 5 straight games with a comeback from a double digit deficit, the Warriors blow a double digit lead themselves after leading by 16 points to start the 2nd half but manage to hold on it OT behind Steph Curry’s 41 points on ¹³⁄₁₉ shooting.

They have now won 7 straight games, the first team since the 1950-51 Celtics to do so immediately after starting 0-3.

Only thing he seems to be picking up a lot of very weak fouls. A lot of the call is not wrong but it’s very light compared to what other guys get away with. Basketball historian here, with a little context about those ‘51 Celtics and their weird start:

It was their first year under coach Red Auerbach, so they were adjusting to him.

Rookie Bob Cousy came out guns blazing, super inefficiently, and after 3 games Auerbach convinced him to stop shooting so much and instead pass the ball to the superstar center they had acquired in the offseason.

They had acquired superstar center Ed Macauley in the 1950 offseason, and they convinced Cousy to get him the ball more instead of shooting so much himself. How good was Macauley in that era? That was the year of the first All-Star Game, and he was its MVP (not George Mikan, or Cousy, or Joe Fulks, or Dolph Schayes, or Paul Arizin, or anyone else whose name you recognize from that era).

Boston had selected Chuck Cooper in the 1950 draft, making him the first Black player drafted. Suffice to say, he and the team got a lot of racist BS thrown their way early in the year, so it’s at least possible that they were handling it better after the start of the year, so it was less of a distraction. I have no proof of this, but it seems possible.
