Thing is, if you’re letting him get these 3s too easily, you let him rest. The proven strategy to beat him is to make him work without a break on both sides of the court. Cardio is his one weakness, understandably.
Yeah this is a solid point. It works two ways because you’re not pressuring him so he’s spending less energy and it’s closer to the other end so he saves energy there too.
If he stops attempting threes, teams will just pack the paint like they did with Giannis. Instead, he’s getting defenders to bite on fakes and then he’s two steps to the rim
Part of letting him shoot is not responding to pump fakes. Any defender that does, that’s on them. Even worse if it results in Wemby putting it on the floor and getting past them or in free throws.
The way to play him is cardio, inclusion in actions, and encouragement to shoot 3s and the deepest fading 2s possible.
The thing is, he’s dunking it at a higher rate than any other player on record, so it’s sort of a have your cake and eat it too type situation.

Yes, which was 1% below league average in both years - if you have a below average 3 (or even average) point shooter shooting 3s, you let him shoot… especially when he’s 9ft 8 so you don’t want him anywhere near the paint

I have, but it’s a lottery that doesn’t favour the spurs if Wemby, their dominant rebounder, is the one taking the shot instead of one of their small ball players instead - the thing I’ll concede about that is Harper, Fox and Castle all shoot at a worse % than Wemby, so maybe Wemby needs better 3pt help outside of Champagnie

Why are people quoting any stats at this point in the season. Teams have barely reached 10 games and with all the injuries the league is experiencing. Half of what you see (good or bad) right now is an aberration - you just don’t know which half.

The team can and should shoot threes. But any of them can do it. The rest of the team can’t be 7’ 5” and get any rebound possible. He’s also shooting under 30% on the year with volume.

If Wemby is shooting 3s, the opposite center also isn’t in a position to rebound because he has to contest it. Wemby also being a deep threat like that also remove the rim protector from below the rim allowing the spurs guards to feast.

Yeah that’s fair, but 35% still makes it something that he’s just kind of average at. Even if he was up there, it would put him 111⁄171 in the league based on the basketball reference leaders. But his attempts are at 31st in the league. So he’s shooting it a ton from 3 and making it at an average clip.
Around 35% last two seasons. Maybe he put on muscle and messed up his shot and will be under 30 this year, but I wouldn’t bet on it

Not sure it’s good for that particular matchup, when Wemby seems to get a “motivated hatred” bonus stat when Chet is there. 😅
OKC are deep enough that they should manage to make the playoffs, I think, and hopefully will get a healthy roster for the post-season. If not, let’s hope for the competitiveness of the league that every one comes back at 100% eventually, and this might still give some valuable experience for the rookies in the meantime, for future rotation pieces or valuable trade assets.
