That wasn’t a celebration. He probably said some magic words while complaining for the and1
Ya, but he doesn’t have the magic ref-pass like Draymond does
Or Luka.
Or SGA
People always say this, but Draymond usually knows not to say the magic words. You can yell, but you can’t yell certain things.
Yes, clearly it’s because he made a gesture and probably swore at the direction of ref, no other players there just the ref.
Still weak, but I am pretty sure there is an automatic T if you make a physical gesture/movement towards a ref.
Just fyi, it’s “gesture”
Gesture?
lol yeah I am and idiot thanks folks
I wouldn’t call this one weak. There are much weaker ones to complain about.
Pointing and yelling angrily at the ref should be a T even without swearing.
I watched without sound, but yeah how is this not the top comment? it looked like it was 100% directed at the ref. not a celebration.
yea it appeared directed at the ref which would be a no-no anytime anyplace
Friendly reminder that the NBA is a friggin joke.
T’d you up for using the F word
Not enough. Ejected.
Into the sun.
At least he didn’t pass them the ball!
I mean he said something and pointed towards the ref. I don’t think he was t’d up for celebrating.
Doing this in front of an international audience no less.
Definitely don’t toss the ball back to refs.
Only explanation I can think of is he was directing the gesture and flex at the ref? Not the crowd?
I mean he clearly pointed and yelled something at the ref. I don’t understand how that isn’t obvious. Probably had some back and forth earlier too.
He said “and 1” lol what any players says after contact and scoring.
not while pointing directly at the ref..
I get why it was a T, but it’s still soft as hell.
It’s soft as hell and happens all the time. He also didn’t point “at” the ref, he pointed beside him
Where else is he supposed to point?
It’s an obvious conclusion based on totality of the evidence… but wasn’t an obvious based on video I see which is not a great angle. That’s why I phrased it less assertively.
Thats 100% what it was. Like it’s still soft as hell but clearly he was flexing and jawing at the ref directly, and unless you’re Draymond that does often get a T these days
Man I hope he said something too. It’s soft if not.
that is a rediculous T, he barely celebrated, liek for real that ref is fucked and needs to go back to whatever job he had before, that kind of bad call destroys trust for everyone in the refs
Why is everyone spelling it red-iculous now? This is like the 3rd or 4th one ive seen in a row now
Because more and more people are learning words only through hearing them and never through reading them, and they’re hearing words from reaction artists on tik tok who emphasize syllables in words to make a point
If you think thats bad wait for the kids who grew up with chatgpt to join society. Might be worse than ipad kids.
You can get rid of the “might”
It absolutely will be worse
The one that really worries me is “could of” and “would of” instead of “could’ve” and “should’ve”. I thought it was a typo at first. But then over time it became more prevalent. I see it every day now.
Now I wonder what is being taught in school.
the misuse of then and than is another one that irks me.
Ppl have been doing that one since the early 2000s don’t worry
Meanwhile I learn words from reading and have no idea how many are pronounced.
The one that drives me crazy is people spelling lose as loose. I do not understand how so many people can be incapable of spelling lose correctly.
First it was there they’re their. And we tried to keep correcting them but it just became overwhelming.
And then because we gave up the their there they’re fight, we starting seeing loose more & more often. Which doesn’t even make any sense! At least there/ir/y’re makes some sense. Loose doesnt even look or sound like lose. And because we could barely even be bothered to put up a fight anymore, now we’re moving into new words.
It’s a very easy word to spell, but lose and loose both have the “oo” sound in them. Phonetically it’s “lu:z” v “lu:s”.
The problem is that most people only read online or when they text rather than published, proofread writings.
The one the drives me crazy is saying “should of” I will never not correct people when they say it. Also, it seems like people don’t know what the word “women” is plural? I’ve seen enough posts of people saying “women” to refer to a single woman that I’m genuinely confused why this is a common mistake. Never seen someone say “men” when referring to a single man.
I was going to say the “women” thing too. It always stands out to me when I see it
Came looking for this. Pisses me the fuck off, every time.
That is usually auto correct gone wrong. For example, tool and toll.
Also why is everyone spelling it “liek” now?
Can I add the use of apart too?
Dunno if you’re being serious or not but “liek” was hugely popular in pre-iphone internet culture. This would be more of a rebirth than something new
Yeah, people’s spelling is ridiqulous nowadays!
Its riddickuluss… kmon now
It’s turning more and more into a Harry Potter spell(ing)
Paging u/balkibartokomous for a professional opinion
the back of yo head is riddickuluss
I prefer the traditional spelling of reDONKulous
I think the exact same when I see people spell paid as “payed” it’s legit everywhere and idk when this started?
Spelling is really hard now.
Probably because lots of people like to over-enunciate it as reee-diculous and so they don’t know how to spell it.
Ref prob thought he was taunting him lol
that’s what i think he’s looking right at the ref
And points at him and says something.
Right? I am reading these other comments not sure if they are being sarcastic or not. He clearly points at the ref and says something. We don’t know what he says, but everyone is acting like they know for sure he didn’t say anything worth a tech.
Yeah lol I’m not surprised at all this got him a tech.
NBA refs are the softest people on planet earth. Would not be able to handle a single quarter of any football game. Worse than MLB umps. Embarrassing
you need to watch 1 MLB game lol
It seems pretty clear he wasn’t celebrating so much as shouting something at the ref. He turns and emphatically points in the refs direction and shouts something.
This gotta be it, it looks like he turns and yells something at the ref lol
Yes
I agree. It’s ri-goddam-diculous.
You can’t tell me this isn’t just manipulation by the refs.
Redilicious Fergilicious make them boys go loco!
He’s clearly calling for the foul not celebrating, it was directed right at the ref lol. Still soft af but this title is super misleading
I’m sure it wasn’t a polite call for the foul. Turning and pointing at the ref while screaming is always gonna get you a tech. I don’t get why people are arguing it when it was that obvious. Slamming the ball and letting it go over your head is also an automatic tech. Yeah, both are soft but not a surprise since it’s a rule
He clearly pointed right at the ref n prolly said some magic words lookin for an and 1. This is a common T. You can tell even murray isnt surprised he received it.
Complaining about contact is pretty common. Refs seem very inconsistent about when they call it.
Yes. reffing in general across all sports is super inconsistent. But Ive seen players point at refs and say something R rated and get Techs at least 100 times
It’s not about complaining, it’s about what words are used.
If you say certain things, it is always a tech. We just can’t hear the words, so it seems identical to other times where techs aren’t called.
It isn’t.
Tatum got a tech for clapping. Duncan got a tech for laughing.
You’re right that it’s entirely possible he said something he shouldn’t have. But it’s also possible it was a bullshit call. We will likely never know, unless what he said is revealed to us.
Usually making it personal is the line. You can say where’s the foul or and-1, but once you start going you fucked that up, you’re asking for a tech
Baseball is like that too. You can complain that a call is fucked, but you can’t complain that they fucked up the call
He probably swore at him
I’m a huge Murray hater, and your explanation is the only one that makes sense. His celebration was not over the top at all, and I was even looking for a foul on the shot itself.
But since I’m a hater, call all the fouls and Ts on him that you want.
Ethical hating
Thank you; I try my best.
And a kind Fuck the Lakers to you as well. Not anybody in particular, just the concept.
I am a Nuggets fan and I think he pointed at the ref and deserved the T. If I were a ref and a player pointed at me I would T him up too.
Yes the behavior of someone at about 40, 41 seconds totally fits that description.
Clearly the production crew didn’t provide the one shot that would offer some clarity. Dumb
Ref couldn’t handle the MC altitude, decided to call a soft T and grab some rest?
Thought this was a McDonalds joke at first and not a Mexico City reference
The ref was too white to breathe circularly.
Extremely common win for Katy Winge
Yep
Insanely weak technical. wtf
Pointing at a ref like that is a common tech tbh.
Unless your name is Luka
what do you mean? Luka gets techs all the time.
Luka complains to the refs so much, points at them and really doesn’t get techs too much. Sure he got one last night for tossing a ball.
If Luka just played instead of crying, he’d be even better. 2nd half last night he stopped crying and started hooping and they won
It depends on what words are said while pointing. You can yell whatever you want in Slovenian.
Is the point in the room with us right now?
I mean 9 second mark? He points in the direction of the ref. Even if it wasn’t intentionally directed at the ref, it’s pretty easy to understand why the ref called the T
If pointing in the direction of a ref for half a second deserves a T, then I think we gotta re evaluate what we’re doing
I mean you asked where the point was, and I showed you. I don’t know what was said, so I’m not going to fully have an opinion either way. I do find it funny that people find it so easy to say it shouldn’t be a tech or that it’s soft when they have no idea what Jamal even said.
Don’t understand the snark. If you show up a ref, you almost always get a technical. It is what it is.
Can you give me the time code of when they were shown up?
I’m ngl I just watched it back a few times and it doesn’t look like he’s point at the ref but somewhere in the stands
They even mention it on the broadcast. He was mad at not getting a call and previous calls. He clearly points at the ref like do your job.
Disagree about it being clearly pointing at the ref but it’s possible he did say something
He’s clearly pointing at the Mexican guy directly behind the ref.
Ehh, both his and Jokic’s non-reaction to the tech tells me he probably yelled some crazy shit lol
What’s with all professional sports wanting their players to be robots.
Ball didn’t lie, though
No shit…. They are up 10 with 2 mins left. They better win. Duh.
Oh, I meant that they missed the free throw after this
Am i insane or is this 100% a T? Seems like he’s pointing and shouting at the ref, and the fact he doesn’t seem surprised by the T says a lot.
nah you’re not insane, r/nba users don’t watch basketball. He clearly got mad, pointed at the ref, angrily said something to them, they T’d him up, and he just goes about his day cus he knows why it happened.
Think about the players who do this almost every possession and never get a T
Almost as if context matters.
The context being a different player? Lmao
The context being that not a single Nugget on the floor argued or looked surprised by him receiving that tech. Had it been unjustifiable don’t you think that he’s screaming at the ref and you get a coach on the floor losing his shit too?
Almost as if nba refs have no consistency. Seen players do much worse shit than this and get nothing
You’re not crazy and the title is wrong, he gets a T for whatever he yelled at the ref.
Luka does this multiple times a game and nothing. Consistency is all.
He doesn’t say the magic words that Murray says here, probably. Everyone is acting like they know what the player said. Luka probably just swears in Slovenian.
Luka gets T’d up all the time for this stuff
Either way this is something Luka does 30 times a game
for sure luka should get more ts
luka should get more ts
In the last 5 years Luka is 2nd in most techs with 35, only behind Dillon Brooks with 43. He’s even ahead of Draymond Green at 31. Surprisingly Anthony Edwards is 4th with 28.
So Luka is sandwiched between 2 guys who are well known for insanely dirty plays, and you think his “whining” should be penalized even more than them? Maybe if Luka threw heat packs on the court during live play more often, he’d catch more sympathy in this sub or something?
I’m convinced Luka fanboys are just Slovenian bot farms at this point bc the utter lack of ball knowledge is astounding.
You don’t get techs for dirty plays, you get flagrants. All of Draymond’s and Brooks’ techs are from talking shit or just unnecessary acts (pushing someone, running into altercations, etc.). Their dirty plays get flagrants.
And yes Luka should have at least 2x the techs he has but if he got officiated for techs the way role players/players who don’t play for the Lakers do he’d blow away the Rasheed Wallace season tech record even with all the suspensions Luka would get
He did point at the ref and say something, but its still a very weak technical. Unless he said something absolutely outrageous.
Players complain about contact a lot. You have Luka and other players shouting at refs all game. It just seems very inconsistent. Apply the same standards all the time. It’s unclear why this was a tech and other examples aren’t.
These refs are a joke
SGA gets that call 11 times out of 10. Clearly fouled and deserved to let the ref hear it
If LeBron does this nothing happens
League is gunna rescind this technical. They should also investigate the refs that distribute these types of technicals. Fucking ridiculous.
Can we talk about that play tho. That was nice!
Jamal’s lack of a whistle is criminal.
I mean, its a weak ass T, but he wasnt “celebrating” he pointed at the ref and said something.
The NBA has a serious refereeing problem. It’s going to push a lot of people away from the game.
I’ve been hearing that since I first started watching this, and older heads than I have said the same thing before me.
Does the down 50% viewership in 10 years not kinda prove the point you’ve been hearing tho
refereeing problems have been around forever. no it won’t push a lot of people away, in fact the NBA has more viewers than ever
I’ve stopped watching because of it. It just ruins the game.
I bet the refs knew the spread…
That’s bullshit. Screw those refs.
He wasn’t celebrating, he yelled something at the ref.
Also not really a rant by the announcers…
OP is fucking pathetic
