Good to see Wemby keep developing his go to move, “The Lob” looks to be reliable and consistent, at least in the first half. Still needs to work on it more with those misses in the second half though.

When people asked “why doesn’t he just dunk every time? Is he stupid?”

They were on to something. I guess he actually just was stupid

moonshadow50

59 | 11 hours ago

I mean - our last 7 wins have been against pretty crappy defences.

It’s a lot easier said than done, and takes a massive toll on his body, if you try and spam that against better teams the will keep throwing stronger guys at him.

Hot-Program-8715

18 | 11 hours ago

It’s his conditioning that has gotten way better

KARSbenicillin

13 | 11 hours ago

Nah it’s just that some teams don’t have the personnel to stop him from dunking. The Kings are one of them. Basically if you don’t have a guy who can stand up to Wemby he’s going to steamroll you.

MrShonen

14 | 11 hours ago

They don’t want to box Victor. Everyone knew he can be the greatest lob threat rim running player. It’s nice to get him runs on every facet of the game

I know that these are professional athletes, but they are still humans with a finite amount of energy. He simply cannot do what he does defensively while also jamming and bodying ppl in the paint all day on offense.

alxandrafflatus

-1 | 11 hours ago

it isn’t he who’s stupid; it’s our light skin pitbull looking ass coach on the side who’s stupid

LA-Aron

1 | 2 hours ago

Every single time he goes to the hoop the entire defense collapses. He may dunk it, he may get fouled, he may miss it. But it is a high percentage shot and if Wemby doesn’t get it there’s going to be at least one guy wide open for another high percentage shot. Send Wemby to the hoop and let Wemby anchor your defense and good luck beating them.

Harper skipping down the lane against three defenders and scoring a layup really says it all.

Titanium-Skull

Or wemby getting that wide open offensive board off his own missed jumper for the dunk, I was shocked seeing him have that much space

Ah that’d make more sense, still the vibes that game felt horrible from the Kings (except for Cardwell shoutout to him)

Morning_Cereal_Ori

I think it also shocked wemby little bit too. He was hesitating for good secs that he wasn’t expected it at all. LOL. that was really funny moment

Literally saw three Kings defenders just standing there as Harper got the easiest bucket he’ll ever get. Legit feel bad for Kings fans. Spurs fans only had to suffer for about 3-5 seasons.

He could’ve had 40 but he sacrificed his ability to dunk in the 3rd quarter to save his ankles

His first game with a good threeball too. If he gets his shot back to normal the league is cooked.

Adorable-News-9364

25 | 11 hours ago

Nah he had ⁴⁄₁₀ in a game against the Jazz. It’s streaky but he’ll be fine

BananaRepublic_BR

If he averages even 35% from three, he’ll already be an elite stretch 5.

VastTelevision4473

7 | 10 hours ago

It seems that if Wemby during catch and shot develop something like big center that shoots 3’s like KAT, or Clingan kind of set shot he will become unstoppable.

KAT doesn’t jump that much cause no one can really block his shot.

Armanewb

5 | 3 hours ago

Wasn’t there an infographic that showed Wemby’s release point was 6 inches higher than Durant?

Commercial_Floor_578

22 | 11 hours ago

Felt like a very causal 30 from Wemby, which makes sense given it’s the Kings but still. I wouldn’t be surprised if Wemby ends up having the greatest advanced metrics in NBA history by the end of the season, his defense seems even better than last year and while he had poor efficiency these first few games it’s been good the last few and if he improves on offense at to a significant degree it really could be the impact goat season.

moshercycle

7 | 10 hours ago

So far it seems like he starts seasons off slow, there’s def a pattern there. Super excited to see where he’s at around the 30 game mark.

Pobbes3o

6 | 10 hours ago

didn’t he open last season with a big game vs the mavs?

Ill_Responsibility99

6 | 6 hours ago

Yeah he was super inconsistent and then hit a little slump for a while until like February

WhoreyMatthews

4 | 2 hours ago

His xRAPM last season was 10.2

Nobody had ever broken 10 before. LeBron’s peak was a 9.9

This year Wemby’s at an 11.7

EPM also currently has him more impactful than Luka despite Luka’s monster counting stats.

xRAPM has his defense so valuable that if he were a completely average replacement level player on offense he would still be the 2nd most impactful player in the NBA.

I think you are confused with Mavs game. There Wemby had 3 blocks in a row on one Mavs possession.

Van_der_Sar

I know, I watched that game. It was just hilarious to me that he said since 3 blocks were on one possession it’s not a special stat.

Even now people just seem to refuse to relent on the Sabonis propaganda, he’s just not that valuable as a turnstile defender big

Armanewb

1 | 3 hours ago

Commentators said something like his first three was only the third he’s attempted this year, which was mildly confusing to me because if he can’t defend and he can’t shoot 3s, that’s just a really awkward fit as a big.

Wemby unlikely to be MVP this year… Partly because he got good teammates. Mostly because - did you guys see the amount of highlights Luka got today? - Wemby probably don’t have such a PR team/fans to promote his MVP chance

Armanewb

It is in fact 10% done lol, they’ve played ⁹⁄₈₂ games.

PetrParker1960s

Wild-Bid8858

4 | 10 hours ago

If Luka can keep this up and lakers keeps winning, then sure. But nah that won’t happen dawg 🤣. Not even MJ averaged 40 in a season. Not kobe. Only wilt against plumbers.

Understand the lakers haven’t faced any upper echelon teams with elite defenses (SAS, DET, BOS, 6ERS, KNICKS). His scoring will surely dip and lakers will stack up losses. Their Luka-dependent playstyle will be exposed by these elite teams.

Luka was also playing like this last March, until OKC dropped the hammer on him and blew them by 40. I’m telling you OKC made him look average. That was the game Luka was injured. Only scored 12 points or something.

We’re not even 10 games into the season so calm yo tits. Last season Jokic was number 1 around this same time. Wemby was like 5th? Lots of things can happen. Stop concluding anything.

hotnewroommate

Outside OKC and Houston, neither have the spurs so that’s a stupid point. And against OKC he was ass

But the Most Valuable Player is clearly Luka. It’s honestly pathetic when Luka is on the bench.

PetrParker1960s

Look at the plus/minus when Wemby sits. Wemby is the entire defense.

Looking at the box score it looks like nearly everyone played well.

Victor Wembanyama in a blowout win vs. Kings: 30 points, 14 rebs, +31 on 10⁄18 shooting and 4⁄6 from 3pt line. He played only 26 mins.

Victor Wembanyama in a blowout win vs. Kings: 30 points, 14 rebs, +31 on ¹⁰⁄₁₈ shooting and ⁴⁄₆ from 3pt line. He played only 26 mins.
