I know it’s definitely not a popular opinion, but when Luka ACTUALLY does try and put solid effort on the defensive side his 1-on-1 defense is actually pretty good. Been like that for a while now, too. Hes just been put in situations where his offensive load is so unbelievably high he has had to save energy for it.
But his offensive load is so high this season… and he’s still playing defense… the fuck is this dude on right now.
Beginning of season so he has more energy. I really hope he doesnt burn himself out
He’s also in shape at the start of the season which makes a big difference. Usually he starts hot gets gassed/injured gets in shape and gets hot again. This time it feels different.
He also didn’t play for Slovenia this summer. He usually plays in some torunament in the summer where he’s also the main guy, plays a lot of minutes and probably has to do even more than at his NBA teams. People that don’t follow European basketball, don’t understand how bad this Slovenian team is without Luka and how much he has to do, to even be close to some of the best national teams. And also just how difficult these torunaments are both physically and emotionally

People paying attention this season know he’s been good. Now does he maintain it all year that’s the concern.
I have more faith he will maintain it than i have faith he’ll be healthy all season. that’s the concern with this level of offensive load and defensive commitment. Still glad to see him getting recognized for actually playing the other side.
Let’s just hope he can keep that mindset and focus.Because the problem never really was that much when he tried but when his frustration took over.If he is able to keep that kind of focus and find ways to not let frustrating moments get to him, he’s unstoppable and an absolute joy to watch.

I think it really started at like 3-4 mins remaining in the 2nd quarter. He had few great defensive sequences, then also took a charge, which helped them chip away the lead and that shot after that

It’s nice to see him trying because it shows he genuinely wants that MVP. If doesn’t even need another 35+ season imo. If he can maintain 30+ and put effort on defense even if he’s not that good, he deserves MVP imo even if Shai and Wemby are right there.
