Yes it is extremely hard on the eyes and makes the ball more difficult to see on TV as well as in person. Hardwood floors weren’t an unsolved problem in the first place, but we had to go and overengineer them, anyway.
I guess it makes sense since it is very eye catching, and basketball is exclusively a highlight sport 🙃

It wasn’t as bad in person, idk wtf it was but the saturation was turned up to 12 on the Jumbotron as well. That floor was actually their usual wine red color, idk how they got it to look like bright red on TV, but the Jumbotron and smaller screens around the arena all looked stupidly bright just like on TV.
Still hard agree with everybody else, some of the floors look ok, or fun, but for the most part it just looks crazy.
A couple years ago I read a long article about the NBA/ABA merger and there were a bunch of quotes about how the NBA was serious basketball and the ABA was more entertainment driven so it wasn’t serious basketball.
Guess the ABA won, because the amount of clown car shit we have now is wild.
If they were paying attention to what the ABA did, the courts would be the same for the big games you should be watching, and the basketballs would be the eye-catching thing.

When the Warriors-Lakers game started last week, I wondered why the game was so bright. I thought something wrong happened to my screen, and then I realized it’s the ugly court.
They’re a good way to signal it’s an NBA Cup game. I personally like them: obviously not all the color schemes are winners, but they clearly signal this game isn’t just a regular season game. I think that’s useful.
I don’t think anyone is complaining they have special courts. Can’t even watch this game though. Ball half blends in and Im actively paying attention to the floor rather than the action lol.

A few years back, when the Nets had that all gray-scale court. Went over to a buddies and he put on a Nets game and I thought it was in black and white. But the away team had on blue jerseys. So seeing a fully black and white picture, but one team in blue was really a freaky illusion.
Honestly it was kind of cool. At least compared to these courts. It’s hard to see the action as a casual.

In the WNBA, it’s far more common to see missed layups, sloppy turnovers, and sequences like this that look like a rec league game. I went to 4 WNBA games this year and watched it myself.

Uhh…yeah obviously rhere are plenty of clips of sloppy NBA play. The point is the frequency of those clips in the WNBA.
The point is that people can watch hundreds of clips of NBA players making sloppy plays (or breaking the rules through moving screens, carrying, etc.), and I never hear anyone saying this is a sign that male athletes suck, or the NBA has crappy athletes, or that we should all go watch a real sport like NFL or the Premier League.
People are perfectly capable of seeing a clip of NBA players fucking up without overgeneralizing about the athletes or the sport. They can still find enjoyment in the NBA product without totally dismissing it.
So the gap between how people respond to a clip of a WNBA error and how people respond to clips like the one above is enormous.
