Giannis just running around on defense looking lost
He was gassed this whole game because he was just running around for no reason and no purpose
On offense, he did not know where to go. Davion ran into Giannis’ defender under the hoop because Giannis wasn’t clearing out of the dunkers.
On ball, the guy does not know how to play the midrange if he wasnt downhill.
I dont think hes ever played in a system where he wasnt super ball dominant
EDIT: Also on defense the Bucks almost always had another big to take the other teams big and Giannis played a lot of weakside help defender, they didnt do switches with him nearly as much as Miami does on the perimeter so he rarely had to do a lot of complex rotations
He hasn’t.
Giannis has not been expected to contribute on the defensive side of the ball for years. They just hope that his one-trick offense makes up for his zero-trick defense.
Giannis literally has a dpoy? I won’t pretend like I watch most of his games but surely you don’t get one while being a “zero trick” defender
Very interesting considering he’s openly criticized players that went thru the same transition on multiple occasions
When did he do that?
He has played with his national team and he said he loved it.
The duo of Giannis Dame never looked as good as it should have been because of Giannis. Even when they were both healthy it always felt a bit off.
Giannis can’t set screens or just hates them doing them whereas Dame is great in the pick and roll especially shooting immediately off the screen. When that trade happened I was genuinely confused as you could tell it was doomed from the start
Doesn’t he just have to stand infront of Dame’s defender? I refuse to believe that wtf 😭
to my shame, I blamed Dame for that more than I did Giannis because as a Blazers fan I was used to watching Dame be a ball stopper and 15+ second dribbler on countless possessions. Now with Dame playing much differently this season and Giannis doing… that…. I owe Dame an apology. They both had to adjust, but Giannis apparently can’t.
Pick and rolls are a lot harder when ur guy is slipping down before even making any contact on the screen and that’s what Giannis was doing like 90% of the time from what I saw and read.
So he just runs and dunks with no skills? What everyone has been saying the entire time?
He’s not really a skilled player but he is talented. Really good passer for his size and he can carry an entire offense every night in the regular season
But he’s for sure better suited as a #2 option next to a great scoring guard
I’d love it if it didn’t work out in Miami and lakers could trade Reaves for Giannis because Luka & Giannis would be a perfect pair
Ironic as he lead bucks to a championship.
Testament to brute forcing a championship
Yeah, no offense, because he’s on defense
He looks like he’s 5 playing soccer. Just chasing after the ball. Maybe Doc was right.
I can’t stand Doc but he was clearly right about him
what did doc say about giannis?
https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/RzNGXXuLFM
Doc is right because Giannis, on the second night of a back to back, after playing 40 minutes the previous night, had some defensive slips. Nephews are insane.
That’s not even a slip, that’s just completely bamboozled. Also who told him to chase the ball like that? Stick to your assignment and drop coverage when necessary
That is completely irrelevant to what Doc Rivers said.
It’s about the last several years why Giannis has failed to have success in the East.
You mean when he was injured and/or the rest of the team sucked?
He was basically just running around doing nothing
he was just like my cousin fr
Let’s be honest, he was gassed because it’s the 2nd night of a road B2B and he’s a 6’ 11” man over 30 playing a lot of minutes.
Giannis “Pat Bev” Antetokounmpo
Yeah but you forgot that they have HEATTTTTTTT culture! So they are actually amazing !! (Fighting for a Play-In Berth yet again)
“He trick y’all”
Everyone is saying it’s the players around Giannis but he has been a very low IQ player this season and his effort has been ass on Defense in the majority of the games
Welcome to the Giannis experience! Enjoy being gaslit by the national media and your own fanbase.
No one ever seemed to question why Giannis needed a #2 who was an iso scorer and a #3 who was an ultra high IQ low usage connective player. Why he failed with a pick and roll player like Dame. And definitely don’t ever speculate about why such an elite defender constantly gets roasted by skilled wings, which should be his best physical matchup. Nope, it’s always the coach and supporting cast who are at fault!
A Bucks fan parroting “my” lines about Giannis? I never thought I’d see the day.
Giannis hasn’t regressed or anything like that, but he won 2 MVPs and a championship in the most perfect possible situation for him. The success forced the NBA to develope counters/hedges, and Giannis hasn’t added nearly enough to his game to deal.
Maybe Spo can fix him - I’m a big Spo believer in general - but there’s a small possibility that Giannis truly needs a supporting cast analogous to Jrue, Kris, and Lopez. Time will tell.
Dude I’ve been saying this for years, had to leave the Bucks sub because no one wanted to hear it.
And time has already told lol. Giannis has never done shit without Peak Middleton and the best versions of Jrue and Lopez. Giannis has no post moves, can’t shoot, is a volume passer but not a high quality one, and charges to the basket drawing fouls so he can then miss free throws. On defense, he pursues weak side blocks and that’s about it.
At his absolute peak he was a great but incredibly limited player who always got neutralized by good coaching and smart, physical players. Our championship came after we barely scraped by an injured nets team, an injured Hawks team, and beat a suns team that imploded within the year.
We’ve literally already seen the most that Giannis can accomplish as a team’s best player, with what nobody ever accepted was probably the perfect roster built around him, and he isn’t even that guy anymore. I’d say he could still win as a #2, but that would require adaptations to his game that he’s never even remotely demonstrated, so I won’t hold my breath.
Our championship came after we barely scraped by an injured nets team, an injured Hawks team, and beat a suns team that imploded within the year.
Two things to add:
You also avoided a fully healthy Sixers team who choked away a series they should have won
The Suns you faced were the 4th best team in the West. In the same postseason and late season stretch, the Nuggets lost Murray to ACL, Clippers lost Kawhi to ACL, and the Lakers lost AD to a groin injury
Your first 3 paragraphs sound exactly like something I’d write (other than the fact that I wasn’t pushed out of the Bucks’ subreddit because I’ve never had a reason to go over there). Feels wild to have somebody else out here preaching my exact take.
I’m not fully on board with your last paragraph: I’m a little more optimistic than you. As far as I’m concerned, Spo is a miracle worker, and saying that Giannis “isn’t that guy anymore” might be a little over the top. But I also wouldn’t be shocked if you’re right.
Giannis greatly benefited from the league trying to find their next LeBron. Without all his blatant carries and travels, he’s a #2 at best.
We’re all glad you left the sub as you shit on the best player in franchise history who brought us our first chip in 50 years. Fuck off dude, what a cunt you are
great post I always felt his game was pure athletism not really much skill beyond I’m biggest strongest fastest
Yup, I to left the bucks sub for similar reasons.
Yeah, you’re right, he needed good teammates to achieve something great, what a loser. He should have done it all by himself 1vs5.
Man if Spo can’t fix his issues he’s probably cooked
You cant fix stupid he genuinely seems lost and I’ve always had a low opinion of him, he really does just run and dunk. He’s the most shameful #1 option to ever win a ring he has zero skills.
Seems needlessly harsh, he started basketball very late right? And his passing and shooting has definitely imptoved a lot.
Imagine confidently saying it takes zero skills to not only win a championship, but a finals MVP, scoring 50 pts and going 17⁄19 at the line. Free throws take no skill…?
You have two braincells fighting for third place, but I can’t say I’m surprised by the stupidity of that statement. Your team’s number one option couldn’t defend a cone to save his life.
Snake ass bucks fan lmao
I swear these fans are so ungrateful lil shitsLike the dude wins your franchise first title in like 50 years (mind you with a 50 pts carry job to win it all) but now he’s a low IQ player who could only win with the perfect team around him? So what, Brunson is washed too cuz he had the perfect roster around him last year? I mean what are we even talking about?
GIANNIS SET A PROPER FUCKING SCREEN
Man, if only Giannis sat out the 2021 finals so that he’d give his leg more time to recover instead of stupidly rushing back, maybe he wouldn’t have suffered so many leg injuries since then that took a toll on his body and impacted his athleticism and approach to the game. He’s so dumb for carrying the Bucks offence on his back and taking the Celtics to 7 games in 2022 when his #2 iso scorer got injured and nobody else on the team could step up. I mean if only the rest of the Bucks had scored just 14 more points in game 6, they would have eliminated the Celtics, but Giannis is so stupid for scoring 44 pts and 20 rebounds and 6 assists while his ultra high IQ low usage connective player had the second highest points on the team with 17pts 2r 4a. Man, Giannis is so dumb for allowing Kevin Love to injure him in 2023, and rushing back instead of putting himself first and resting. It’s actually his fault that his #3 ultra high IQ low usage connective player was completely embarrassed by Jimmy Butler.
Giannis is really just a terrible teammate and an even worse defender. There’s absolutely no context or nuance that might explain why he’s not as good as he was prior to 2022 or why it might be difficult for a man that’s played in one place for 13 years to adjust to a whole new environment and system. It makes no sense that Giannis, fresh off the back of the greatest coach in NBA history, Doc Rivers, isn’t able to adapt to the Heat’s great defensive track record engineered by the great coach Spo, which has led them to finish no higher than 8th seed since 2022. Let’s not even talk about how great the Bucks are doing this year without Giannis terrible defence holding them back.
Unreal takes in this thread lol
you know it’s cope when you get not one but two run-on paragraphs of butthurt sarcasm countering absolutely nothing the first guy said
The trouble with satire, of course, is that it occasionally finds its audience without finding its way into their comprehension. Gotta admit though, I’m rather fond of the idea that every absurdity deserves a meticulously reasoned rebuttal lol. It’s the sort of conviction that keeps comment sections alive and irony unemployed.
I don’t think he’s ever been anything but a low IQ player.
The Bucks were always just built around him to minimize that as an issue as much as possible.
Everyone calling him low iq after the doc clip lol. Have never seen it before today
Have you forgotten run and dunk man? Lol
Nah its been said for years, we just all get downvoted. Cause of the doc clip everyones upvoting the people who have that opinion now.
Plenty of people felt that way, you just could be labeled a hater because of his success, but two things can be true at the same time
They didn’t say “low IQ” specifically, but there was a lot of chatter with similar examples about why he didn’t work with Dame (and this year, when Dame has looked pretty solid once again). For the most part, Dame played better when Giannis was hurt and looked like an all-NBA guy.
I didn’t see the Doc clip until after I posted this comment
They’re just clamoring on the hype of the clip. He’s for sure limited but low IQ is insane
Hes very specialized, what hes good at hes elite, but what hes not hes anywhere from below average to terrible
I remember during their finals run, Barkley called them out as the stupidest team he saw play that year.
Something along the lines of, man they are talented but equally stupid.
i remember that clip lol
edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/ooj0g2/charles_barkley_predicting_the_bucks_to_win_the/
I don’t recall that. I remember he was very high on the Bucks and picked them to win the championship much earlier in the playoffs than the rest of the panel.
It’s shit on Giannis time mate get with the program. He was always shit on offense and defense and had the luckiest ring everrrrr
I don’t think Giannis is a low IQ player he just has a limited skillset. He’s got a couple EXTREMELY dominant moves but not a lot of counters
I will die on the hill that Giannis has been an overrated basketball player his entire career who has coasted mostly on his insane athleticism making him look better than he truly is at basketball.
Because we see a lot of 7fters handle the ball like he does
Athleticism is a part of basketball
Honestly matters more than any of the big 4 sports.
Averaging 30⁄11 for 5 seaons…
Rip this guy
Are you also one of those people who think Shaq had no skill?
2-time MVP and 7 time All-NBA 1st team who averaged 30-12-6 over a 7 year span, including clinching a championship with a legendary 50-14 with 5 blocks.
Shaq definitely more skilled than Giannis with higher BBIQ
Run and Dunk Man
Going from Jimmy to Giannis is going to be an adjustment. One is known for his BBIQ and the other is an elite run and dunk man
One has shown he has what it takes to win a ring, the other hasn’t. I’m sure they are fine with giving up a little IQ if it leads to more success.
People gotta rewatch some of those Bucks-Nets games to realize how dumb Giannis plays even at his peak. Dude was taking 5+ threes, he kept charging at old-ass Blake Griffin and picking up offensive fouls, and was useless as a switch defender against KD.
He was great for the most part, but his severe flaws were glaring in a series that should not have been close after G2 (should’ve been a clean backdoor sweep, instead they had to sweat out a OT g7 victory).
You talking about the series he averaged 32/13/3 ??
Two things can be true at the same time
Yeah fair enough actually
His BBIQ shined the “brightest” when he slid his foot under Kyrie and took him out. Very sus character that has always been propped up by the NBA media and the league office.
Giannis’ defense has been running off reputation for years now
When you look like a good defender and once were one it takes a long time for the community to come around to the fact that you’re not impactful on that end anymore
To this day Giannis is called one of the best two-way players in the league. Looks like people need an update that it’s no longer 2022
Pretty much. People still have it in their head that he’s an elite defender
He can be on any given night. The problem is it’s not consistent Anymore
No he can’t lol. Doesn’t have the lateral foot speed to stay with perimeter players. Can’t fight over screens against ball handlers. Can’t play the 5 for more than a few minutes because he can’t play down there with true centers. He’s strictly a weak side roaming off ball guy who picks up some stocks now
Which is ironic because he had 0 in this game
He’s never been an elite defender. He’s great on the weak side and coming in for help but there’s a reason why he’s never guarding the best player on the other team and it’s been like that for years.
Giannis absolutely was an elite defender lol
could it maybe, just maybe make sense to use someone who is excellent at help defense exactly in that way.
how can someone with a DPOY not be an elite defender
Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum should have the defensive reputation Giannis and Kawhi have.
Hard to do if you have no All-Defensive Teams to your name
Defensive awards in general has been based off of reputation way more than other awards. Kobe getting 1st team all defense later in his career was a joke
I think the days of top no.1 option NBA stars also being all defense might be over (excluding bigs). The last time this happened was in 2020-2021 when Kawhi and Jimmy made all defense. Since then only defensive specialists/role players or big men have gotten the accolade. Until that point in history, it looked like 1/3rd of the all defense members were also no.1 option star players on offense.
Brown was always a bit overrated on defense. Pretty good on ball but was bad off ball so overall he was probably above average. Tatum is really good on ball and off ball but not elite. I think If there’s was a defensive 3rd team he would’ve made a few of those.
That’s the problem. Kawhi and Giannis have so much fan and media bias they won defensive awards they don’t deserve.
Wtf. Brown is an average defender at best. He’s legit bad offball and pretty good on ball.
How spastic do you have to be to believe this comment that is ridiculously upvoted? He’s absolutely still one of the best two way players in the league
Found the casual
Name the best two way players in the league
Feels like his defense has fallen off a cliff since 2022 man..
Yup. Giannis has not been elite player since getting bounced by Miami back in 2023
Elite defender yeah but he is still an elite player
Giannis trick y’all, man, like he playing defense. He don’t guard nobody, man. He just running around, doing nothing.
Positioning for a rebound.
It’s Russ Westbrook pasta
Him and Kawhi both peaked defensively early in their careers, before they hit peak offensive responsibility, and most people simply cannot understand that their best versions on two ends of the floor never existed at the same time.
Kawhi was still a legitimately good on ball defender for a while at least
Kawhi is a much more skilled defender than Giannis. Kawhi has great hands and positioning on defense.
You actually never see Kawhi out of position like this.
Giannis was at his best defensively when he was a help defender crashing other team’s plays.
If he literally stood still, Giannis would have been a more effective defender on this play.
What you said is true. But Kawhi is much better defensively even now.
Yeah Kawhi has aged better as a defender, I was more using him to illustrate as he’s a better known example of young elite defender -> offensive superstar
Don’t think he aged better as a defender, just a difference of instinct and feel for the game he’s always had but had to turn down the effort because he still had to score 25 on offense
Feel like there’s a difference between someone being older not putting as much effort but still generally knows what to do, vs. whatever this is, its not lacking in effort, he’s just lost
Giannis was an elite defender during the 21 championship run.
His offensive peak came afterwards though
Agreed. In the fantasy community we wised up to it years ago.
By keeping him a consensus 1st round pick?
Late first (I’m in big boy league that is auction but ya). He’s still an effective fantasy player but when you get him you’re not like oh shit I’m gonna dominate stocks
Yeah he’s also been even worse on that end this year. He hasn’t been elite on defense since like 2023 but he was still good and elite in spurts. This season so far he’s been bad. I’m sure he’ll improve a little but it’s been rough.
Jr High vibes.
Where was I supposed to be?
Heat and Charlotte play-in rematch is gonna be cinema 🔥🔥🔥
lol we’re not making the play-in
Neither are we 😔
But like…bottom 10 teams in the east so far have looked like they have equal chance to be ass, so SOMEBODY has to make the play in
How the mighty have fallen
Is there a play-out?
That’s how you guard 1-5
“Me…Draymond and probably Giannis, three guys who can literally guard 1-through-5 and be effective.” - Bam Adebayo …..
”… but he doesn’t necessarily have the super IQ at the same time,” Doc Rivers said. “It’s really a strange thing.”
Me, an idiot, when I play NBA 2K:
Love how everyone is running to blame Spo or the rest of the roster when Giannis himself is a large contributing factor to us losing games because of shit like this
Blame whatever scheme you want to, dude isn’t even executing basic defensive principles
I’d never blame Spo. If a player can’t excel in a Spo run system then it’s on them not Spo. I’ve seen that man make g league players look like impactful role players. I don’t question him
“Giannis is a child.” -Jaylen “Lambchop” Brown
Lambchop Brown is by far the best Brown.
true dat
Man i was supporting Brown for that. Giannis elbowed him then proceeded to do that fake dap sht on him. That’s just pure disrespect
because of shit like this
shouldnt the coach be coaching him to be in the right places?
Trolling aside, there is definitely a few things here that are deeper than if you see this at face value.
Curry screened Giannis. The question here is do we switch or we stay? Giannis and Davion are both good defenders, so the simple answer here is to switch and this whole sequence never happens. In this case, this is really Davions fault for sticking to Curry. However, if the game plan was for Davion to be glued to Steph, then this is really Giannis not fighting through the screen hard enough. At the same time, this is a massive moving screen by Curry. You can see Curry starting to backpedal the moment Giannis takes his right foot stride. Curry effectively sealed him, so Davion should have really recognized this and just auto switch.
Assuming the plan was for Davion to always stick Steph, then the play works out normally as Wiggins rotates to the cutting player to stop the drive. Since Giannis is already facing that direction, he does the natural thing which is to close out to the open guy that he has both a direct line of sight and path to cover. How you interpret this part will depend on your philosophy. One way is that Bam goofed by jumping the corner when Giannis was already heading that direction. Maybe the idea here is that Bam stunts corner, goes back to the wing, and believes in Giannis to make that closeout in time.
The other interpretation would be that the former scenario is too “slow”. Even for someone of Giannis’ abilities, making a strong contest to the corner from the opposite wing is not optimal. If that player is someone like Dame or Steph, that is way too much distance. It’s a wide open shot. If you follow this philosophy, then Bam does the right by quickly rotating to the corner as he is the closest player and, as the clip shows, that shot doesn’t go up. Even for guys like Curry, Dame, that would be a contested shot by a 6’10 defender. Definitely lower percentage. In this case, this is either Giannis’ fault for not recognizing this and closing out to the wing instead of the corner or this is Bams fault for not communicating to Giannis to hit the wing. Either way, this is either Bam, Giannis, or the staff for not being clear on the defensive principles.
Good or bad defense is really going to depend on the what the gameplan and principles were going into this game.
Thank you. Very well explained. I am shocked by the amount of Giannis slander here. There’s obviously rotation principles and game plan happening and people interpret it as Giannis running around looking lost. Personally it seems to me that Bam wanted to stunt and get back to his own man and then thought Giannis won’t make the rotation in time, hesitated and committed to guarding the corner 3. So they scrambled out of that. All in all it seems everyone knew their job and forcing the ball to Draymond at the 3pt line super late in possession is a sign of good team defense.
Even if this is the correct interpretation of what happened there’s a couple of things that don’t happen here that are still his fault. The whole play he’s the only one not communicating with anyone (even if it’s poor/late communication). Both Davion and Bam at least call for help rotations after Gianni’s gets caught. He’s also just strictly ball watching, he doesn’t scan his own defense. If he did he would have seen Bam rotate to the corner in time which means his rotation would have been Draymond. Instead, they both go to the corner, forcing Giannis to go to Dray. But his closeout angle is weird, allowing Draymond to drive middle. And this is the last point which I think is most egregious, there doesn’t seem to be any urgency or purpose, he’s kinda just meandering.
yeah that last point is what kind of kills any ‘this is actually fine defense from giannis, it’s the kids who are wrong’ takes
even assuming giannis is in the right for every one of the decision points that happened, he’s still playing with all the urgency of a recently tranquilized cow so it doesn’t actually matter that he might be theoretically right
I’m kind of skeptical and think Giannis blows the rotation. I don’t know many schemes where he is supposed to be closing to the corner 3. Once Wiggins rotates down, Bam seems to be talking to Wiggins and you can assume Bam has the corner 3 rotation so Giannis should be going to the 2nd pass which is Green.
People have been looking for any reason to shit on Giannis for years. They get any opportunity to do that and they’re gonna take it.
this is definitely a more correct interpretation than the majority of this thread
however, unfortunately, none of what you just said can outweigh the sheer visual comedy of giannis loping around with the general demeanor of a confused and somewhat stressed out puppy surrounded by strangers
He tricked yall
What’s your username about
Answer u/Lizpy6688, u/ASK_ABT_MY_USERNAME
One of my all-time favorite sports soundbites
It’s called Kalshiing. It’s a legit basketball move.
I predict that this game will hit the over (if I don’t play any defense)
Kalshiimaxxing
He looks completely checked out
Checked out would’ve saved him a lot of running around. Bro just lost.
I thought the headline was an exaggeration. It was not.
He looks miserable
Must be the struggle of playing for a…hall of fame coach? Hm, that can’t be right…
I’m thinking the Warriors purposefully put him in the action on the perimeter b/c they know he can’t navigate screens.
Looks like he doesn’t even know which players are on his team.
Busy doing Kalshi ads
I really think this is kind of it. He won his championship and now is in every ad he can possibly do. He’s gonna be like Shaq someday with how much stuff he’ll endorse without a second thought.
the funniest part is whatever he was doing with Draymond… he wasn’t closing out on him, he wasn’t guarding him for the drive…. he ran around him in a circle like a puppy
That was cartoonish
He looks like me trying to find my keys
Dude looks like me playing 2k career mode lmao
leave man open
Defensive Breakdown
Yeah but I still got ten blocks that game (I’m playing on easy against the cpu)
Giannis totlLy plays like the my player with amazing stats but so many mental errors it undermines the production
running through the house with a pickle in my mouth
Stop misbehavin’
Huh
Giannis made the wrong decision going to the heat, it’s literally the bucks team again
At least he is living in Miami and not Milwuakee
And he has his championship I guess. He’s only 31 I hope he figures it out still early
It was 53 in Milwaukee today and 84 in Miami. Yeah I understand why he wanted to live in Miami
Milwaukee is also one of the most depressing big cities I’ve been to. Both times I went it felt like the hub city of a post apocalyptic world lol
Thought the same thing about Miami
Nah. Milwaukee is pretty cool. Miami is trash outside of the beach and weather.
Lol that’s wild.
Imagine wanting to play for Miami instead of Jayson Tatum in his prime.
Or Wardell Stephen Curry who could get him 6 wide open dunks a game lol
I mean wasn’t the issue that the Cs didn’t want to give up Hugo Gonzales or some dumb shit like that?
No, Milwaukee didn’t really want Jaylen (turns out nobody else did either!) and considered him necessary return salary more than a guy they planned to build around, so in addition to him they asked for all the Celtics’ picks and young players, of which Hugo is one. Why he became the face of the non-trade I do not know. Probably some Bucks-side media leak to try and pressure the Celtics into paying up, knowing that Boston fans are some of the loudest, dumbest and most reactionary shitheads in the world.
Anyway the Celtics balked because emptying the vault for a 32 year old big who just had an unhappy and injury-riddled season is reckless unless you’re really desperate (we weren’t), and I’m sure they were onto Giannis’ now-apparent flaws well before the public was. They said no deal. Miami was willing to give the Bucks what they wanted so they outbid the Celtics and got him. The end.
You tellin me not a single ref saw an issue with that Curry screen? 😂
I think most refs see Giannis’s 250 6’11” frame wonder how tf Steph’s 6’2” 200 lb frame is stopping him from running
Also it’s the nba, every screen is illegal. It’s like travels and carries lol
Mfers just be mad when they see us do it because of our rep even tho it happens like every single possession around the league now
I wonder why.
They’ve been calling illegal screens this year
That looks like a man who needs a rest. Sure, he’s not DPOY material anymore, but that clip makes it seem much worse than it is.
I think Will Ferrell ran that play in semi pro. “I’m a rover coach, just gonna go rover”
https://youtu.be/mJMWFpBLEyc?is=0tNQlLDqM011T_5v
Haha, I haven’t seen that in years but that’s a perfect comparison
Look what they’ve done to my boy
I just came from Doc Rivers saying Giannis isnt high IQ player. Everyone was shitting on Rivers but here is the evidence
Anyone can look like shit on one possession though
Problem with Doc is that he’s done a lot to discredit himself as a messenger. But he’s 100% right in this case.
Getting lost defensively isn’t what has stuck out to me watching Heat games this season. Giannis’ stretches of terrible off-ball play have been crazy.
Its almost like the Heat are a new team with a new scheme that the players arent comfortable in yet. Crazy thought.
He was the same on the Bucks tho…
Last year maybe, but he was hurt most of the year and that was essentially a new team as well. He didn’t have many guys on that team that he played with for long.
Doc is trash but what he said about Giannis is right
One clip?
Probably true but Doc is a low IQ coach too lol
lack of game recognizes lack of game
The lowest of the low.
Tbf Doc seemed to be talking about offense specifically
Here is the evidence from one play on a brand new team with an all new scheme. He’s a former defensive player of the year, even if he isn’t super high IQ, he finds other ways to dominate. There are many players in the league with a higher basketball IQ that aren’t half as good as Giannis so it’s not exactly a huge negative criticism from doc.
Doc Rivers and throwing his own players under the bus, name a more reliable combination.
If only there were a position on the Bucks, an employee whose job it was to ‘coach’, if you will, the players. Surely someone in that position could have helped change the things Doc complains about.
Didnt Adrian Griffin got fired because he tried to “coach” players into new thing which was more pressing defense? They were 2nd seed and coach still got fired because of “miscommunication with players”
Some players just arent willing to be coached.
It’s hard to say why Griffin got fired. The fact is: if Doc admits he couldn’t coach Giannis, to me that’s a fireable offense. Find someone who can do the job. And if Giannis truly isn’t coachable (which has never really been proven, certainly not part of the narrative when Doc was actually in a position to do something about it), then Giannis should have been shopped earlier (after many other steps taken, like management sitting him down and discussing). But it’s all hypothetical right now, because we know Doc always blames others, and we know he failed miserably with the Bucks, so we don’t actually need for Giannis to be uncoachable to explain what Doc is saying.
Lebron putting his teammates on the trading block.
Their defense has been absolute trash. I have to think Spo will figure it out but it’s shocking that that side of the ball has been this bad. I expected the offense to be clunky.
Shit, was James Harden right all those years ago? Just run and dunk?
That takes no skill at all
Yeah
Shoot, who cares. The goal is to win a championship with your talents and Giannis has done that. Harden never has and never will, it was obvious that statement was made out of jealousy whether it has any truth or not. Thats about as dumb as criticizing Jalen Brunson for not dunking at all.
Shoot? He cant do that too
One guy was going toe to toe with the best team of all time, the other beat Trae Youngs Hawks and Cp Booker Ayton Suns.
Its not really comparable
And I doubt that harden would be able to complete a 0-2 comeback
I wasn’t comparing them at all really. The both played different positions and lead their team to a championship with very different skill sets and styles of play. That was why I was comparing.
yes you were comparing them.
ure a bot
The goal is to win a championship with your talents and Giannis has done that. Harden never has and never will
This is what we call a comparison
I mean Giannis was talking shit about him first lol
He looked awful tonight, but specially on defense
I thought the inspiration for this trade was AD and Bam in the Olympics, why isn’t that happening
Both guys think they’re the AD in that analogy
Pretty sure he ran a figure 8 lmao
Is this a time where maybe the celtics were right not to trade?
As a Celts fan I still salivate over a Giannis/Tatum combo with a bunch of shooters around them. Especially after seeing the ultimate return on Brown.
But in reality I don’t think Milwaukee really wanted Brown. It really made no sense for them to take him on. They did what they should have and just got a bunch of young players and picks. 30 year old max contract Brown just doent doesn’t do a lot for a rebuilding team
Honestly surprised if they couldn’t get a third team involved for brown
Every team in the league knew he was available and all the Celtics got was Paul George.
This comment perfectly describes his defense tonight and pretty much most of the early season.
He trick y’all
running around, doing nothing
He doesn’t look lost, he looks like he doesn’t care
You know how Luka has a reputation of being a bad defender still even though that may not necessarily be true, but it kind of just sticks?
Giannis has that too but the other way around. People still think he’s a good defender.
As a Giannis fan since the day he got drafted you aren’t wrong. Right when the bucks got Brook Lopez, Giannis had a much different defensive role but since like 2020 his defensive motor just isn’t the same and he rarely takes the toughest matchups. Def a combination of lack of effort and losing some of his agility
Well said. Seen him play every Bucks game. Defense was played on occasion. He needed the ball the majority of the shot clock while his teammates watched. It was way past his time to move on. He’ll get his stats though
I think its because defense usually doesn’t just go away until you are well past your prime. His athleticism is still 80 to 90% there and his length isn’t going anywhere so he still has all the tools to be a great defender again. You just dont know how much of it is a loss of effort or because of age but hes only 31 I think.
Paul George looking better than Giannis
Miami has looked so disconnected this year. It’s hard to watch.
Getting his steps in.
It’s crazy how this guy might have the best defensive play in the finals against Booker’s alley to Ayton, then you see him get lost like this 😂
Tbf Davion should’ve switched and had Giannis stay on Curry once he seen Giannis was caught in the screen. Giannis got tunnel vision and didn’t realize Bam slid over to cover for Wiggins and went to the same corner. He had pretty ok hustle once he realized his mistake. Again all this stems from Davion not switching in the beginning, despite game plan you need to be able to adjust on the fly.
If I had to guess is they weren’t switching off Curry so when Giannis didn’t just go under, Mitchell was like what are you doing bro… you can even see Bam pointing to the spot where Giannis was supposed to be.
Scrolled way too far to actually see someone say this.
People see him going in a circle but don’t realize what actually is going on
