First option Naz Reid is insane

Geez, if only that hadn’t traded a great ball handling guard💀

Coby and Kon are the best passers on the team by a wide margin, who also happen to be the best shooters (aside from Grayson). Really horrible luck to lose both of them to soft tissue injuries right before the season.

Your mom’s a ball handler

Yeah all their players benefit big time just form having a legit lead guard. I don’t think its as doomed. They need a real facilitator to scale back Naz and Miller initiating offense which is killing them

Trade us Moose pls

A veteran PG would be nice for them. Coby White won’t cut it.

Coby and Kon have been injured. Schroeder has been handling a majority of it. Not great.

A ton of people, this sub included, vastly underrate the Lamelo/Trae type players in general. They make the game so much easier for all of their teammates and it is obvious every time you watch them play. They make the most mediocre role players provide valuable offensive contributions with their playmaking. I could not care less how inefficient people want to say they are, they are one man offenses.

iirc a lot of the Lamelo on/off disparity was due to Charlotte not having any viable PG in those off minutes, Coby White had similar splits during his time in Charlotte. It makes sense that Charlotte would have a putrid offense with White having only played 34 total minutes so far

edit for numbers on White: in the games that White and LaMelo played, going from White on/LaMelo off to White off/LaMelo off was a -34 point offensive swing per 100 (admittedly in a rather small sample)

but why did they trade lamelo right when they were getting good anyway

It almost feels like they were counting on some sort of “addition by subtraction” scenario, but the numbers didn’t support that at all. You’re spot on…the team looks a lot like they did last year when LaMelo was on the bench.

I don’t think we’re capable of panic. We know who we are

I don’t think its a fair comparison to make right now with Kon not even really playing a game yet and White just coming back. We still haven’t seen what this team looks like with everyone healthy.

We’ve got two PGs that would fit there perfectly.

They were a slightly better than .500 team with Ball last year and got ran out of the building in the play in. The roster would have been exactly the same this year. I think they recognized that the team reached their ceiling and they were right about that. I don’t blame them for hoarding assets.

Holy hell, a sane Hornets fan! Nice to meet you. If you could help me talk the rest of the fanbase back from the ledge, that would be great.

In all seriousness, very well said. I agree with all your points. I would also like to add that the post-Christmas success was achieved in a league where a large chunk of the teams were actively tanking for the last time where it was being incentivized. I think that’s an important footnote.

It’s sort of a relief to know there is a competent front office in place since the lottery odds changed. How much worse would it be if the odds changed and the front office was still looked at like they were the Kangz East?

Yeah, part of this early-season panic is just a continuation of folks who were ALREADY panicking after the trade. If (god forbid) Lamelo misses his usual amount of games this season in Minnesota it’s gonna change a lot of the discussion. Right now with White and Knueppel still injured it’s gonna look rougher than it’s likely gonna wind up being.

Yeah, we the fan base don’t even care about being ‘a contender.’

Winning one playoff series ever would be nice enough.

Trading LaMelo really pissed me off. Hes a pretty rare talent, just invest in what we had.

What gets me is, okay, you don’t think LaMello is your guy, so what’s the plan then? Ship him off for jack shit and then…? How is this any better than keeping LaMello and maybe actually being competitive? Maybe make the playoffs and energize your fan base for the first time in a decade? Nope, they just went back to being absolute shit for seemingly no reason. Oh you got swaps with a team that’s set up to be great for a long time? Oh you got an extra first round pick? Awesome! Maybe it’ll be a player 1/5th as good as LaMello! More than likely those picks amount to nothing, maybe some role players. I just don’t understand it at all

It would be one thing if they got better picks out of it or something but most of the swaps are terrible. I think people also underestimate how risky rebuilds are. I guess it’s possible that they end up with a Lamelo-level or higher talent from it all but it’s pretty likely that they don’t and just put themselves in a worse position for no reason,

Yeah they were never going to make any noise this year, so panicking, especially with the injuries, is ridiculous. I feel like the only thing worth anything resembling “panic” would be that Naz does not really seem to want to be there and there has been some friction there.

I was rooting for our boy Charles. Him and Will Hardy are looking rough

ESPN positioned them at 7th place 3 year power rankings

They went on a huge run at the end of last year that made them look like they figured something out.

Ill be honest, Kon being hurt is whats killing them. Him coming back will change a lot.

Last year absolutely

This year? Eh

Yeah this headline is hilarious. Why would a tanking panic 8 games into their rebuild?

i swear our front office has some connections to prominent media people and Vegas or something. there were (and still are) a lot of people calling this “a small step back” rather than the full-scale meltdown that it actually is.

Vegas had our over/under at 38.5 and 39.5 for a long time. Betting the under this summer was probably the easiest money I will ever make.

This is the most obvious 27-33 win team I’ve ever seen. there will be some fun nights where our 3-point shooters just get hot and win games, but a lot more games and losing streaks where guys can’t hit shit because they’re used to being set up by one of the game’s best playmakers.

As a twolves fan, I’ve always been a fan of Naz Reid but one thing we have learned recently from our reporters is that he is a moody guy. Gets down on himself and others. That’s new information from our beat reporters.

I thought he’d be a great starter and would be able to create his own shot but perhaps he needs a winning culture. When a team flounders it becomes difficult.

And one got reinjured last night :(

Took to long to read this

Yeah I don’t really see the point in hitting the panic button when sion and Schroeder are their lead guards. They’re having Naz Reid initiate offense! It would be far more shocking if this team had been good offensively thus far

The biggest issue so far is that we are shooting 30% on wide open 3s. You have to hope that there is some positive regression here. We are also taking the most wide open 3s in the nba.

no depth? Ant, Donte, and Shannon are out, and the Wolves are just fine.

We got blown out by a mediocre Magic team after squeaking by the awful Heat in the play-ins. Let’s run it back!

Yeah, it’s a silly comment. We’ve had both of our starting guards out on injuries, of course we’ve been bad. They’re comparing a fully-healthy team to a team missing key players.

We’re also having the same start as last season. It’s not like we’ve massively dipped.

No one thought they’d be better short term. They thought they reached their ceiling with ball and if they paid him a lot of money it limits them. So they thought they could pivot, and get worse in the short term but have a chance to improve their ceiling building with the other young members of the team.

Keep in mind ball has serious injury concerns and has yet to play a single minute of meaningful playoff basketball.

hes a good shooter

I think they didn’t want to pay him because he’s injury prone and on a different timeline than Brandon/Kon.

Melo is a shithead, always has been, and he’s an offensive supercomputer.

Professional yapper my goodness , is this ai

The “Sion James does suck ass” got me lol

KOC is just white Kendrick Perkins. ecstatic hes out of theringer and into the deep yahoo cesspool.

“this team is broken” 9 games into the season is love island binger middle aged woman voice line

CLT was clowning on everyone because they drafted Sion James and Ryan Kalkbrenner and they both looked so good out of the gate. Yes, drafting dudes who are almost 24 years old and playing them with a top 5 creator will make them look better than most other rookies. But then they traded the creator!

Surely this time it’ll work!

fists glued to women /s

Problem is that Coby isn’t a starting level PG, and does his best work as a third guard. Last year was the proof. Dude almost has more career rebounds than assists lol. Coby just isn’t what everyone seems to think he is.

Lowe is reasonable, but Simmons is just nuts. I will never understand his irrational hatred for the Nets.
