The amount of picks they gave up for Jaren Jackson Jr is wild and is worse when you realize Lauri and JJJ Are the same position

They could’ve just used all those picks to find a 2 way perimeter player

JoeBiden2020FTW [OP]

30 | 6 hours ago

In a weird way, they kind of indirectly also gave Cameron Boozer to the Grizzlies, who is now shaping up to be the next great star of the NBA.

Ouch.

WheatonsGonnaScore

32 | 6 hours ago

The next great star of the nba?

Also a bit early to write off Peterson

horny_wo_men

1 | 6 hours ago

A bit early to write of Peterson, not too early to say Boozer was the objective best player in the draft. This isn’t hindsight or recency bias. The smart draft people and the stats were all saying that Boozer was the best prospect.

WheatonsGonnaScore

26 | 6 hours ago

It is absolutely too early to say that. Boozer has been great so far but there is no reason to believe any of the top 4 + Yaxel can’t have the best career.

Also, Yaxel has been the best rookie so far.

DetainTheFranzia

Shut up nerd

FRiver

1 | 4 hours ago

What? Of course it’s too early to say one guy is clearly the best player in the draft after 8 games

TheWestRemembers

6 | 6 hours ago

Jazz could’ve had George/Ace/Lauri/Boozer/Kessler (assuming they re-sign) plus kept their pick this year.

I still think they can turn it around when JJJ + Nurcik come back, but it’s going to be tough.

BruhMoment763

All while DP looks like he doesn’t understand (or really want to play) basketball. I hate to overreact, but almost everyone else in the top 10 has shown way more at this point.

WheatonsGonnaScore

5 | 6 hours ago

Peterson’s defense and playmaking have both been better than expected. Shooting will come along

DepartureNo1720

72 | 6 hours ago

They also had Carlos Boozer employed as a scouting executive, didn’t draft Cam Boozer because he was the same position as JJJ, then lost Carlos as an employee cause he moved to memphis to watch his son’s career.

TheWestRemembers

25 | 6 hours ago

It’s low key playing out like Luka with the Kings. Boozer was born in SLC, his dad played/worked for the team. Obviously Luka’s connections to the Kings were different, but it just felt like a no brainer.

OKCDraftPick2028

its been 5 seasons since they blew up the mitchell-gobert duo.

it didn’t work out for them

zepistol

3 | 5 hours ago

Yeah they were a legit team, they will always be better than this version

FRiver

1 | 4 hours ago

Not yet. But they have a great young core (Keyonte, Ace and Peterson) and some established players hitting their prime in Lauri and JJJ.

Roster needs to be retooled but the future definitely isn’t bleak.

WheatonsGonnaScore

-7 | 6 hours ago

That duo wasn’t going anywhere

Overall-Palpitation6

Except to the playoffs, every year.

We’re still waiting for a payoff to whatever this is, 5 years on.

WheatonsGonnaScore

-7 | 6 hours ago

And people would have still been trashing them because they still would have been a 1st round exit team.

SuperVaderMinion

4 | 6 hours ago

So trade one of them and pivot for a year or two before reloading as opposed to blowing up the entire operation and praying that the lottery gods would smile down on you for half a decade

mydicksmellsgood

1 | 5 hours ago

Hard to imagine trading Mitchell and building around Gobert because he raises the floor too much to get a good draft pick. Hard to imagine keeping Mitchell around for a reload, he really seemed to dislike the city and the fans (which I get).

AfroHouseManiac

3 | 6 hours ago

They were trying to building a 5 out team particularly to matchup against Wemby. Literally what a Utah Jazz insider stated, “they approached the trade deadline with San Antonio in mind”

Overall-Palpitation6

2 | 6 hours ago

Or, they could have just stood pat, re-signed Kessler, drafted Peterson, and been relatively fine.

TheCatSleeeps

Could’ve payed Kessler and drafted Boozer smh

xychosis

Their team is just so…bad. Idk how Ainge managed to fuck it up.

Wait, you’re telling me the guy obsessed with playing 4-on-5 in Boston might be a bad GM?

mMounirM

81 | 6 hours ago

the fact that Utah kept Lauri and are now still worse than the Warriors is kind of funny.

fatkamp

6 | 5 hours ago

Still hate Ainge for that.

Trades can benefit both parties, not just to embarrass the other team

eldono69

19 | 6 hours ago

Dubs lucked in on Yax blowing past expectations, we were expecting at one point an 0-10 start. Utah also doesn’t seem to have players with a winning mentality so there’s that.

GuraNuS

Pretty sure Lauri is too expensive to trade atm

I knew I didn’t know shit about basketball. I was totally wrong about this team.

Danny Ainge is a fraud. I am so vindicated for my hate of this team

TheyCallMeTheWizard

15 | 6 hours ago

I’ve got so many fuckin downvotes for this take over the years.

He feasted off a beast of a trade and some decent moves and become a household name.

berrin122

12 | 6 hours ago

Well, it was the trade, and the unreal streak of draft picks.

Rondo, Bradley, Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, the masterclass of the trade of the #1 pick (though he kinda bombed the pick, Romeo Langford). Traded Isaiah Thomas at the right time (albeit it was cutthroat).

Ainge had a decade where he was wheeling and dealing better than anyone.

TheyCallMeTheWizard

5 | 5 hours ago

I’ve got to think you guys had a very legit scouting department.

Just like when the genius spurs picked Tony Parker, Sam Presti was doing scouting internationally and told them this guy would be amazing.

Just-in-themiddle

2 | 6 hours ago

Well, he was already a household name before his front office career, but yea he fell off

Jaded-Sapphire3546

Isn’t his son the one running the team now?

AnselmoHatesFascists

11 | 6 hours ago

Officially, but it’s like Elon Musk hiring a CEO to run X. But we know who actually calls a lot of the shots.

fatkamp

2 | 5 hours ago

My favorite part is that he actually gave himself a disadvantage through his own ego

His time at Utah has consistently been trade talks where he smugly makes outrageous offers instead of making beneficial deals to all parties

Still mad that Lauri should have been a Warrior. I was right that it was a waste for Lauri to be on that team the last 3 years, and a deal could have been made

beatrailblazer

12 | 6 hours ago

Just wait until Nurk and JJJ are back. Give it 2-3 weeks

CloudySkies64

Pippen420

Drafting probably the single worst player of the 2020s in Cody Williams didn’t tell you that?

FastBreakPhenom

15 | 6 hours ago

Said this in another comment but Danny’s been washed for years now. I will always appreciate what he did for the Cs but it was clear towards the end (with how he squandered the war chest of picks we had) that he was not the GM he once was, especially after the heart attack he had in 2019

Ok_Resource_6068

3 | 6 hours ago

How does a gm become washed? Honest question.

unitythrufaith

6 | 5 hours ago

He was smarter than his fellow GMs for a while there. Your average front office is a lot better than it was 15 years ago though, and I don’t think he’s improved at the same rate. Love that guy though

SuperVaderMinion

So happy about it. The Jazz get completely unwarranted praise from the nerd community. They’re not well constructed and mediocrely run.

I don’t know what hurts more, this awful start to the season or the fact that people are happy about it

spittafan

stridered

1 | 4 hours ago

They are a factor. If you drop games against them, you’re fucked.

Charlie_Wax

2 | 6 hours ago

Very early, but that Peterson pick is going to be a woofer if he doesn’t turn out great because this team could’ve really used Boozer (or the less realistic Yaxel pick).

In fairness to the Azz, they have been without JJJ for many of these games and he’s their key defensive piece. Even with JJJ healthy, we have to question the balance of a roster with Lauri, George, Peterson, and bench guys like Collier and Sensabaugh. Who exactly is supposed to get stops here?

Look at Portland winning with Clingan, Time Lord, Jrue, Camara, and Sissoko. This isn’t a coincidence. Jazz have no stoppers.

They have a lot of potential. I can see them making it to the play-in

The non-tanking Utah Jazz have fallen to 1-7, after a loss to the Pelicans, dead last in the Western Conference
