[SNY] Mike Brown on Dalton Knecht: “He’s a scorer. He’s not just a shooter. A lot of people think he’s a shooter because he’s white. I said it for you, I hope I don’t get in trouble. He can go get it”
Brown has reached NY levels of idgaf I can say whatever
Haha he ain’t wrong though. That’s usually the discourse. But the player did suck for the last year and a half.
I think he lost confidence after the almost trade and then his lack of confidence caused JJ to lose confidence in him. So I think a change of scenery will get him back to being a contributor.
Yeah he definitely feels like someone who needed a change of scenery to discover where he fits in the NBA. But NY is another big market with a better roster where he’ll struggle to get reps. And he’ll have to deal with the negative spotlight at some point. Hopefully he can carve out a role in the league
he’s just bad. mark my words
Definitely not wrong, Duncan Robinson gets a lot of the same just a shooter and defensive liability because of that despite how he’s been for the Pistons. Not a lockdown by any means but still
Deserved
He don’t give a fuck, he just won the fucking NBA Championship.
Mike Brown is always like this though, he was like this in Sacramento lol
calling a white guy white, only in new york baby!
What beating the Bulls does to a MF.
We’re completely fucking awful, take those stats with a monumental grain of salt.
It’s time for Reinsdorf to do George costanza; thr opposite of every initial thought.
This is fuckin embarrassing
-9 against what u/secondary92 calls “completely fucking awful” is rough. Knecht is having such a weird career.
Nope he’s a hypothetical 3 level scorer. It’s funny how now you gonna see all this “Lakers made a mistake.” But all summer all we heard was nobody wants the Lakers trash package including Dalton. He’s a bum.”
You won’t see it because he’s the 14-15th man. This is just a coach boosting his new guy playing well in a blowout.
Big difference between paying him 4 million and 600k
I was hoping he’d stay in LA and make his way to the Clippers. We have the room to give him a green light
He’s definitely a better player than he was able to show with the Lakers. How do you make a player look worse than he is? I’m not trying to say anything bad about the team. I seriously don’t understand what happened. Tell me anything except that he’s trash because that’s just not the case.
Lost his confidence and it’s been almost two years since the “trade” happened. You would understand it early but two off seasons has already gone by. He looks lost in offense and defense and it’s not like he hasn’t been given a chance.
His confidence is one thing, but the kid has a negative basketball IQ. NY fans will see eventually
no they won’t, he’ll be glued to the bench
That makes sense. I didn’t realize it had been that long or that he’s actually been given opportunities after.
The easiest way to think of it was, imagine having Lebron, AD, Reaves, and Luka on the floor with you, and JJ runs a play specifically for YOU to get open and take a shot. Except, you forget your own play. This actually happened with Dalton repeatedly.
Offensive player who can’t even remember his own plays. It’s why he’s a garbage time GOAT, no plays to run just chuck. I’m sure there’s an NBA player in him somewhere, but Lakers were tired of 0 offensive or defensive awareness.
I think it was the failed trade and lack of playing time that came after. Never was able to get back into his groove
He had a hot couple months & then fell off before the failed trade, had a couple decent games in the month or two after, and then looked entirely lost on both sides of the ball the last two years
He was sooooo ass and was given many many opportunities
Feels like no one remembers it now (in fact I had to be reminded myself earlier) of how the only reason he wasn’t already off the Lakers was because the trade to Charlotte got called off and it almost definitely killed his confidence
Because that’s not true, it’s just the narrative people have been floating lol. Go look at his stats before and after the trade. He was great for a little bit, fell off before the trade, had a few good games post failed trade, and then sucked the last couple seasons
Because it’s not true - he was part of the trade because he was playing like shit for a long time prior to the trade
Like clockwork
We will see
Now it’s a “we’ll see.” Is he a bum or not?
lets just see how he does in NY, hope thats okay with you lmao
ya’ll dumbasses were telling me that Bronny is a better player LOL
Bronny has been better than Knecht, at least for the Lakers. Bronny is still trash but that doesn’t mean Knecht wasn’t worse for them lol
Bronny avg 2 ppg last season and has averaged 1ppg this season on like 1 minute a game. The first game he was in he had to be pulled out because the other team scored 11 points in 2 minutes.
How had mms he been better? Cause the stats arnt there.
all I’m hearing is 1 point per minute and that’s elite efficiency.
Bronny is garbage he’s only in the nba because of LeBron . He would be the worst g league player of any g league roster .
Lol I don’t think the guy is an NBA player at all but you know G league stats are readily available, right? Like you know he’s on a two way contract where he splits time between being on the bench and being in the G league and it’s very easy to see how incorrect this is?
Bronny will play in China and make millions 💪
Shit vs poop
Dumbass organization fr lol
But all summer all we heard was nobody wants the Lakers trash package including Dalton. He’s a bum.”
And that’s actually true
Why do you think no one wanted the Lakers trash package? Thank you in advance for your perspective and wishing continued efficacy of Luka’s glp1.
he’s a really talented three level scorer and athletic as get out. his problem is his defense and we can’t afford him ball handling over anyone else on this roster. i really hope he can carve out a spot in the league
Athletic in the sense that he can jump high, but not really laterally athletic. Which is a big reason for his terrible defense (including his IQ)
he’s a 3 level scorer that can’t dribble or drive very well
he lights it up sometimes against bad teams tho
who did he do this against?
the 1-7 bulls, that tracks lol
He couldn’t do this at all on the Lakers after the trade was rescinded lol.
Mike Brown been on one
Well 4 of his 6 shots were 3s lol
Good for Dalton! He clearly needed a new team and a fresh start. I’m happy he’s playing well.
i enjoy listening to mike brown talk
Ayeeee, gas him up. DK highlights looked great. I hope the Knicks keep having more garbage time to give him reps in.
A couple of things. Mike Brown, you’re a genuine and humble dude who tone of voice say it all. And you actually saying more than folk can be bothered to hear and would otherwise write off as this or that. I get and see why characters would want to work, play, grow, and bring it all together under his leadership. Solid and genuine low key ball knower and hooper at the helm. Apart from that, anyone can have anything to say this way or that, justified or not, about who Knecht is or is not, but simply watching some of the fundamentals he exhibits in these clips (sure maybe some non-fundamentals exist as well) are undeniable to any ball knowers out there. There’s game there for sure.

I’m not convinced he’ll see this
Dont worry if I see MB around I’ll let him know about the post
Me neither. But I’m cool with it all the same. Didn’t really have any aspirations in reaching as much to be fair.
Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are front offices around the league quietly revisiting their entire player development philosophies after watching his clips from tonight. ‘Coach Mike’ is right. There is a reason certain people are entrusted with leading men at the highest level of competition. You can call it coaching, leadership, culture, or simply having a feel for the game. I call it ball knowledge.
And perhaps the greatest tragedy of modern basketball discourse is that we have created an environment where a man can demonstrate an objectively sound chest pass and immediately have 47 people in the comments questioning his ceiling. We have truly lost our way as a society.
We should’ve never fired you coach
Mike Brown is trying to gas him up, because his self-confidence is probably in the toilet. Can’t blame coach for that.
The Lakers had him spot up shooting. That’s not his game. But can’t blame them when you had 3 better options to give the ball to.
Watch bro dribble or drive and you’ll understand why they did that
If Knecht can’t spot up shoot he’s not gonna be in the league for long lol
People said same about Reeves
Reeves proved himself by year 3. Knecht has not.
Ar also impacts the game in way more ways than knecht does
Because he got the opportunity to do so
Playing defense and knowing plays is also not his game. Pretty much every player in the nba was the first option on all of the teams they had ever been on in high school and college. But when you get to the nba you either need to be a first option amongst elite players, or you adapt your game to not need the ball in your hands as much. Knecht couldn’t do either of those, so the lakers cut him.
What a scouting report we have so far: can’t drive, dribble, defend, or understand basketball
That’s not true at. JJ used to run plays for him all the time but he stopped because Dalton’s basketball IQ is so terrible he would fuck I’m his own plays.
He shoots and he dunks but he’s not really a guy you give the ball to create.
We had him spot up shooting after 2 seasons of showing he can’t do anything else.
He couldn’t do anything, this isn’t true at all
It’s not his game, but he’s also never going to be someone who is good enough with the ball that it will be a realistic role for him.
His development time went to Bronny for reasons
Oh did it? What facts other than you made it up do you have to prove that?
Not agreeing with the other guy but the Lakers put Bronny on the G league team and said he didn’t have to play road games. Thats crazy special treatment for a guy with a shit USC season
What’s special about sending a second rounder to the g league while dalton actually logged more regular season games?
as someone who watched every single laker game last year, not true whatsoever. we gave him plenty of run earlier in the season, he forgot plays literally designed for him, didn’t guard a soul all year, looked dejected half the time and could NOT make a shot outside of garbage time. just saying shit for no reason know you don’t watch the games.
knecht and bronny both started in the same year.
In their rookie seasons, Knecht played in 78 games at about 20mpg, and Bronny played in 27 games at 7 minutes per game.
In year 2, they played a similar number of games and minutes, but year one they were giving Knecht a lot of time.
What really happened is after the hornets trade fell through and he had to come back, he just didn’t look like the same player. He looked noticeably worse after the fact, and they kept giving him minutes and he kept struggling.
Bronny has nothing to do with Knecht here.
I hatewatch the lakers a lot and watched all this happen.
You clearly weren’t watching the lakers because that’s not true. Neither of them got much play time to develop after the botched trade but before that Dalton got plenty of playing time unlike Bronny but Dalton can’t defend and he lost his shot which made him unplayable.
lol what? No it didn’t. You sound like kwame. At least be right. I don’t even need to go into detail because monkee covered it all
Which is funny because neither Bronny nor DK ever got any meaningful minutes to actually develop. The only reason they saw the floor was because injuries forced JJ’s hand. Even Adou barely got any meaningful run.
JJ and that entire coaching staff seem incapable of developing young players. Like actually giving young guys the minutes, patience and opportunities to develop? Apparently that’s asking too much.
Objectively not true. All of last year Knecht was getting mad minutes where he really didn’t deserve them.
Yeh I remember him getting time and just struggling. He just cdnt find his groove
Nope. DK only got some run early in the season, maybe 10–15 games, but even then his minutes and role were all over the place. He was quickly dropped from the rotation, and for the rest of the season, he only saw the floor when injuries forced JJ’s hand or when JJ occasionally decided to test him. The leash was ridiculously short too. One missed defensive assignment and he was immediately pulled. On top of that, JJ wasn’t even using him in a way that played to his strengths.
It got so bad after the midway point that these guys weren’t even getting garbage-time minutes. So when people bring up production, I think they’re ignoring how little opportunity or consistency these young players were actually given.
The same went on for Bronny, Adou, Manon and NSJ. The expectation seems to be that these guys should come in and contribute immediately rather than actually being given the minutes and patience to develop.
Yep
Thats not true lmao
Straight lie
Dude can say whatever he wants for at least 3 years post championship
I hope he does well for the Knicks. A change of scenery will do him good I think. Maybe he’ll have a bromance with Tyler.
People are in their copium state when it comes to DK, that’s okay.
He was a serviceable addition off the bench during big leads on my 2k team last year.
Dude needs the ball to be effective thats for sure. Thats why he ddint work with a lineup that gas bron,ar, luka
Dalton Knecht in his Knicks debut: 10 points, 7 rebounds, 4⁄6 FG, 2⁄4 3PT
I’m gonna need more data points outside of this. Maybe he really is better on the Knicks, but it’s still too early to tell
Well if he’s white and can’t shoot or isn’t 7’13’ then why is he in the league?
Dalton Knecht needs the ball in his hands and a high screen and let him go to work. That’s who he is. He needs the Luka superstar treatment. I doubt anybody ever gives him that though.
He looks good I can’t lie but… give it time
