Yaxel Lendeborg on if he needs media training: “I’m not doing that man. I’m going to stay true to myself and be honest. I’ve seen plenty of interviews where people are talking and it’s like man I don’t want to watch this. And it’s not like I’m click-baiting or click-farming or whatever.”
The night Yaxel Lendeborg declared he’d “lost all respect” for Luka Dončić, agent Ron Shade and personal trainer Aaron Johnson were at the Warriors’ season opener in Los Angeles and sprang into action. They went to talk with him.
Mentor Josh Lane followed up later that night. The former director of player relations at the University of Alabama Birmingham was momentarily concerned. Maybe he shouldn’t have said that; it was his first NBA game, after all. So Lane texted Lendeborg something in the vein of: Man, what?
“We know when we can kinda talk him out of different things, and then we know there’s certain things that he’s just convicted on,” Lane said. “That was one of those things he was just convicted on. Like, ‘Man, I said what I said.’”
Most importantly, does Yaxel Lendeborg think Yaxel Lendeborg needs media training?
“I’m not doing that, man,” Lendeborg said with a laugh, discussing the topic with the Chronicle on Monday night. “I’m going to stay true to myself, and be honest. I’ve seen plenty of interviews where people are talking and it’s like, ‘Man, I don’t want to watch this,’ you know what I mean? And it’s not like I’m click-baiting or click-farming or whatever the heck people are saying.
“But it’s like, that’s honestly how I feel,” Lendeborg continued. “And I’m not gonna lie about it. I’ve never been a liar. So, just tell the truth.”
Draymond Green, for his part, told a couple of reporters after the Warriors’ loss in Phoenix last Saturday that he’ll “always be in support” of Lendeborg speaking up.
“As far as ‘he needs media training’ — I think the people that say he needs media training, put them in front of a microphone, and let’s see how they do,” Green said. “But usually when people say someone needs media training, one of two things happen. Either you said something they didn’t like, or you said something they wouldn’t be willing to say.
“So they want to make you them,” Green said with a grin. “And who wants to be them.
