It’s funny, as a longtime listener he’s just slowly becoming the crotchety old Boston guy that his dad was when he’d come on pods

Bill calling someone else insufferable is wild.

literally describes Simmons better 😂

Dude has admitted to being a regular on r/kings. If you think about it that way, his tone makes a lot of sense.

Simmons has become everything he hated about ESPN

I think Kelvin Benjamin is one of the heftiest sports personalities I’ve seen in my life… but this is the most insufferable he’s ever been… I don’t know anyone who enjoys it. He’s just unhappy constantly…. I don’t enjoy the process of how he gets those calories

He’s trying to get the Tatum campaign started.

lol.

Came here for this. Also, since when did Simmons start watching basketball games again ? It sure doesn’t sound like he’s watched Luka this year.

And Simmons continues to be a Laker hater in LA.

But he successfully baited this sub into clicks and chatter…

I enjoy Bill Simmons very much.

None of this is unfair criticism of Luka though. Maybe Bill’s delivery is a bit heavy handed but he’s getting old and crotchety. It’s understandable.

It’s content, engagement, clicks and all that bullshit.

The most egregious part of the clip is calling 17 time michelin star chef Gordon Ramsay a “reality chef”.

“There would be no sperm left in my body”

Bill Simmons

He loves Jokić and that dude complains nearly as much. You can put together an endless photo album of him making incredulous faces at the refs.

You can choose to complain about things all the time in media or actually focus on the incredible things happening in the league. I choose the latter and try to focus my media consumption on people around the game doing that. It’s part of why the Prime crew is so much better than Inside.

And that’s why his opinions is meaningless, he’s a super fan disguised as a journalist

That’s because he would actually be watching Luka.

You are not, I dont think Simmons is actually watching him

He’s probably the least annoying he’s been in years honestly. This is mostly Bill’s Lakers bias I think. Which is kinda fair he’s a Celtics fan I’d expect it but stupid to get it posted like he’s some expert

Bill Simmons is a huge Celtics homer and has never been able to be objective about the Lakers at any point in his career

I’m obviously biased but I feel like hes not any worse than hes ever been. They also say the reason the lakers defense is bottom 10 is because Luka argues every call and doesn’t get back when every lineup with Luka is better defensively so its whatever

Yeah bro I was just about to say the same shit I think Simmons is just trying to stay relevant on socials

Thats all I saw was smiles as he kicked my raptors around

before luka was traded to the lakers the general consensus was: “luka is generational and a great teammate, love that guy”

After the trade and all the mavs backlash the general consensus has been: luka is fat, complains too much, bad defense.

Almost like the mavs campaign was to make people feel like they won the trade and started all this negativity around luka.

I watch every Lakers game, Luka complains and yells at the refs every single play that even hints that it could be a foul. I still think it’s winning basketball, still love him, and agree that he still jokes and smiles at times during the game. I can’t lie tho I just don’t know how JJ is cool with it lol.

Luka is a heliocentric player and plays a lot of iso ball. Bill has been hard on Harden in the past too because of that.

Laker’s hire

Least anti-Lakers Celtics fan, Bill can’t see the writing on the wall

He used to be much more of a Luka fan than this though, something his definitely shifted in his enjoyment

He does this. He fucking hates Justin Herbert too. Like he has a vendetta against him because Herbert broke his daughter’s heart or something. He’s been leaning into the modern style of takes journalism for clicks and it drives me nuts as someone who’s been with him for 20+ years

He’s dreaming about a Tatum mvp so he’s laying this groundwork early

The last time Bill voted a Laker for MVP was Kobe in 2006. That’s how good Kobe was back then, enough for one of his biggest haters to admit he’s the best in the league.

I hope Luka wins this year. He’s been that sort of calber of player for years now

How the hell are you a fan of Bill is beyond me

Bro I think is the MVP right now but he can still be insufferable with fouls

I do agree with him here though - not so much that the complaining makes me dislike watching Luka overall, he’s still one of my top players to watch in the league, but the complaining IS so extreme, to the point that it gets annoying to watch. It’s the one downside in otherwise incredible to watch ball from Luka.

Luka is absolutely phenomenal, 100% agree he’s one of the best offensive players ever. I also think he’s defending quite well now too. Not lockdown or anything, but not a liability, league average to even above league average. I love watching him play, but his level of complaining is the one thing that’s pretty annoying. I do think it’s gotten a bit worse over his career too, and is as bad as it’s ever been now.

It’s only cuz yaxel made the comment and now bills more sensitive to it. Don’t get me wrong, It’s been annoying to watch as a laker fan at times. But it’s definitely not any worse than it was before I’ll tell you that much. Like Gjob Bill you probably sat down and watched half a Laker game for once instead of the 10 min highlight clips from YouTube.

Bill has been complaining about Lukas complaining for years now. I think it’s genuinely just a lot of people are tired of it, I’ve also grown tired of it and can’t blame him.

I used to feel this way about Luka when I really started watching Mavs games post-Kyrie trade. I hated his ball dominant style of play, the constant complaining to refs, not getting back on D… and especially Jason Kidd drawing up the same Luka step back 3 game winner that he stopped making as often cuz everyone knew it was coming.

He grew on me. Not sure if it was when he finally had a worthwhile supporting cast after the trade deadline the year they went to the finals and started to pass more and trust his team or if it just took me a while to see the brilliance of his game/talent.

All that being said, I live for Luka being petty against someone on the opposing team and even moreso some random heckler in the crowd he focuses in on. He’s MJ levels of petty but doesn’t hide it at all and it’s entertaining as hell imo

He’s hated this style of basketball since Oscar, you can disagree but it’s a completely unsurprising take

He didn’t say anything about skills or mvp, just stated facts

well bill snorted some adderall and now has things to say

Yep this is nothing compared to his 2023 season where he nearly got suspended from having too many techs and the Mavs didn’t make the playoffs and all hell was breaking loose because him and Kyrie didn’t click right away

He hates that Luka is on the Lakers.

Yeah this is the happiest I’ve seen Luka in a while

When he’s yelling at the refs or whining about calls? Did this whole thread become stupid and forget

It’s also not even remotely true. If you’re going to use real time, at least try to be somewhat accurate in your estimates.

It’s crazy to me that Laker fans don’t get this, if he played for Boston they’d be sick of this shit too while acknowledging how amazing he is.

Agreed.

He doesn’t, it’s a brain dead take.

Me too, he needs to relax

He hasn’t changed by now he’s never changing

Really? if it’s not impacting the game and it’s absolutely not why does it matter.

Jokic does this, bam got techd for bitching the same fucking game. And even worse everytime he thought a call should be made he sauntered back on defense.

Every single star complains when they get called for a foul they don’t think they did Kat is notorious for it, or don’t get calls they think they should.

What made Luka different is doing it to the teams detriment. And if you have been watching he hasn’t been doing it.

Yall act like he out here doing other worldly shit but the reality is shit like this dude BLATANTLY LYING IS SHIT THAT MAKES YOU THINK LESSER OF PLAYERS. He clearly doesn’t even watch😂with his fucking king season tickets.

Sir watching the kings isn’t insufferable🤡

He was playing defense for the gross majority of last season and Rachel nichols is trying to gaslight folks into it just starting this season.

It’s insanity, but the box score highlight watcher don’t know they just repeat shit for fake points on the interwebs you can’t even buy a fucking pack of gum with.

Same. And even then Luka’s consistently 10-15 ft further from the basket than Kobe’s smothered ones. It’s insane to watch.

He’s literally a Top 2-3 difficult shot maker of all time while being the most productive offensive player EVER and everyone is just nonstop complaining about him lmao🤣

Every big moment got ignored or talked down in ²³⁄₂₄. 73pt game was the defenses fault, 50/6/15 christmas game no reaction, team being hurt and luka carrying grant williams, seth curry and a bunch of 10day contracts to wins while averaging 37/10/10 for 2 months and keeping the mavs playoffs dream alive got called a slow start for luka in the mvp race

What year do you think he should have won?

He actually had Jokic ahead of Shaq and Hakeem before the playoffs, only to change his mind after Denver lost to a Wolves team missing 6 rotation players lmao.

Media loves jokic and they all went quiet when Dosunmu cooked him

Just wait til Flagg works his way into the top 10 conversation
