Luka has dethroned Jokic at being the best offensive player in the league

AncientYodha [OP]

18 | 3 hours ago

Luka is also #2 in the League behind Trae Young in AST ADJ which accounts for, The total sum of a player or team’s assists, free throw assists, and secondary assists.

#1 Trae 12.3, #2 Luka 10.9, #3 Hali 10.8, #4 Jokic 10.5.

The gap in three point shooting and playmaking is too big to ignore for me, plus Luka is a better playoff performer

MajinOni21 | HOU

Of course Luka has a great case however SGA is the reigning 2 time MVP with deep playoff runs the past 3 seasons that ended with getting a chip a season ago

Luka undeniably is playing like the BITW rn but cementing yourself as the best in the league comes from the playoffs not just the regular season

Edit: lol this many downvotes for saying Luka cant be the undisputed BITW since he hasn’t cemented himself to be that in the playoffs like Jokic and SGA have done😭

Hes been MVP favorite the start of every season but this one WTF you smoking?

He just hasn’t deserved it yet

Greenwalrus72 | DEN

7 | 3 hours ago

no, they can’t

luka has never deserved an mvp trophy over the winner. But he is the mvp and best player so far this season, and because of this—7 games into the season rn—we have to pretend he’s deserved the mvp multiple times and it’s blasphemous and that he’s constantly robbed of his rightful trophy

Jason_DeHoulo | TOR

17 | 3 hours ago

I know he was only 3rd in voting that year, but 23-24 Luka was mvp caliber IMO. 34/10/9 is an absurd stat line

Greenwalrus72 | DEN

-9 | 3 hours ago

mvp caliber doesn’t mean deserved it over the winner. And he didn’t. He was playing mvp caliber ball that season, i agree. But to be the most valuable player in a season, how good the competition is matters. You have to be more valuable than everyone else.

Western-Election-997 | LAL

3 | an hour ago

Well Luka can’t win MVP as a 5 seed averaging 34/9/10(in your own words he didn’t deserve it)

But Jokic deserved it with his shit 6 seed team that did nothing while Luka made finals as a 5 seed

Trae young led the league one year in both total points and assists. Only one of two players to ever do it in NBA history.

He didn’t get a single MVP vote and was third team all NBA.

CriticalTemporary662 | MIN

I’m curious how much of this can be compared to if they weren’t scoring and/or not having the assist. I guess something like ORTG with on/off is this but really needs to be possessions where they aren’t the finisher or the one before the finisher.

AncientYodha [OP]

3 | 3 hours ago

Assist ADJ is the metric for that when someone contributes to assist but doesn’t count as an assist. Luka ranks #2 in that behind Trae then Hali and then Jokic

²⁄₃ preseason favorites for MVP are at one and two. It’ll be interesting to keep track of this as the season goes on.

Also interesting to still see JT here with two bad games by his standards. If not for game 1 and yesterday where his team couldn’t hit the beach water with a coconut the gap would probably be around 6-7 points

The NBA does have a “Gravity” analytic.

Those 2 are in a league of they’re own at 20.8 and 20.5 (third is 16.6). Steph’s off ball gravity is at 28.6 which is insane. Ik about the gravity stat, was wondering of there was for assists or smtn, but that would be impossible to track

If Im standing right next to u. U suck at shooting anything. U hand me the ball. I shoot and make a 3.
