Ref should have gotten some props for that.
nah the casual nature of it makes it cooler
Yeah this goes genuinely hard. Ref doesn’t even look back at him, just two ballers passing casually.
I thought that was the coolest part too, like it wasn’t even a thing for either of them…just for us uncoordinated slobs.
Yup- it’s better when nobody bats an eye
That’s so awesome
Yeah but i think the person infront of Wemby distracted him
That was the most casually cool thing I’ve ever seen a ref do lol
Gonna allow him to bet on the next game
Isn’t that what we’re doing here…?
Young French athlete being able to juggle the ball isn’t surprising, but that ref caught off guard not gonna lie
Are we sure that ref is not also French?
I don’t think he’s Fr*nch
Don’t think he is. Don’t see a single cigarette anywhere
I am not comfortable with the hard F
He’s from Philly. Played college ball at West Chester
Franch?
As someone who spent my whole life in Europe, I assure you, No French man would wear that horrendous shit on National Television.
Omg, referees wear uniforms in shades of gray, and use body language to pretend to do physical acts.
Referees are mimes!
Unless it was part of a political or sociological statement.
Hey no kink shaming
Please call them “people experiencing Frenchness”
the frenchally disabled*
Yeah that’s what I was gonna say, maybe that ref is French lol
I just want an adjective to match “casually”
Definitely brazilian
Unless they’re in cahoots
I suspect a conspiracy
The little-known Ball Juggler Society conspiracy.
Ball Juggler Society conspiracy
🫴🦋 Is this a “gay agenda” joke?
actually, that’s only true when from the Cahút region of Normandy
Unless it’s from the cahoots region it’s just sparkling collusion
Ref is Eastern European also a big soccer region…
80% of the world is a big soccer region I’d say.
Yeah, Eastern Europe is full of Aaron Smiths, just like Philadelphia is full of KHvicha Kvaratskhelias
How do you know Aaron Smith’s is not an Anglicized version? He could be Aaron Smithzwenzki.
Eastern Europe also isn’t full of Kvaratskhelias, the southern Caucasus’ on the other hand…
The entire world except for the US (and maybe Canada) is a big football region.
This is a pretty european/latin american viewpoint. In many countries (e.g. India, China, Pakistan, Japan), football is more of a secondary sport, just like in the US.
All of those places knew Messi when people in the US barely could recognize a football pitch.
They really aren’t exceptions. The region is, at least not nowadays, a footballing powerhouse (though it might depend on how one opts to define eastern europe), but when you start talking about the best from the region it’s all sorts of players.
If anything, the prolific striker is arguably the more standard product from the region.
I think sometimes it’s easy to forget just how athletic the refs are. Most of them are former pro or collegiate athletes.
The vast majority of talent in football (soccer) on Earth is coming from in or around Paris. That is unquestionable. Something in the wine I guess. Their teams are just wealthy enough now to not have to sell. PSG is walking through most elite teams like they’re a joke.
Wemby must’ve known the ref was balling like that
That was dope. This is my breakdown: Ref was watching him do it. Wemby kicks it up to the refs hands. Ref let’s it fall to his feet to catch and kick it back up.
That’s sick bro. Gonna need colbertican17s analysis more often for sure.
Dope analysis indeed.
This is my breakdown: Colbertican17 was watching the video. Colbert swipes down to the comment box and writes a brief analysis of the vid. PMMeNothing let’s the analysis be appreciated and votes it up.
Holy crap that was awesome
ngl I feel vindicated after I got downvoted for saying that the “Wemby juggles basketball” clip that got 10k+ upvotes rly wasnt that crazy
like shit cool but now we have a baseline that an nba ref did it lmao
Juggling a basketball is easier than a soccer ball with minimal practice (assuming you can already juggle a soccer ball well)
I guess the weight makes it more stable?
Yeah, soccer balls are designed to fly without wings. Soccer balls are closer to volleyballs than basketballs
was anyone saying wemby was some superstar? it’s just a spectacle to see someone that tall have any kind of ball skills at all. the tallest skilled player ive ever seen is peter crouch and he’s what, a foot shorter than wemby?
and even he was a complete unicorn
Plenty of people could juggle the ball a couple times. It’s really not as impressive as some people here are making it seem (but it is pretty cool).
It’s a spectacle to see Wemby do literally anything, that doesn’t mean everything he does is notably impressive haha. It was just people without much background knowledge on the matter, it would be shocking if Wemby couldn’t juggle a basketball!
Ok but what if the real point is trying to get the Americans to understand that soccer is cool and that they’re missing out?
I’ve watched this clip no less than 15 times lol
Yo that refs first touch could get him paid lmao
telling my kids this was zidane
Just be sure to keep him away from Italians
Don’t think anyone’s first thought of getting paid to play soccer is MLS anyway dog lol
New favorite ref
Not sure how many people know this, but if you click on any ref’s name on the referee assignments page, they have a bio along with a bunch of fun facts like favorite movie, place they’d most like to visit, hidden talent, etc. I looked through it at the start of the season and I have to admit, it’s kind of odd to get to see their more personal side.
Anyway, this ref is Aaron Smith and he fuckin’ loves breakfast.
Wemby would have been a soccer player if he were 6’3.
6’3 Wemby is just Ekitike
6’3 Wemby is just Stromae
Bzzt bzzzt bzz bzz bzz bzztt
Recording
haha, I can picture that.
heki mentioned lfggg
Hugo Ekitike is 6’3
French Peter Crouch
I’ll take any mention of Crouchy to share his best quote.
Interviewer: What would you be if you weren’t a footballer?
Crouch: A virgin.
That’s fucking hilarious. I watched the World Cup years ago and my soccer ignorant brain saw England play. I remember thinking, “I wonder if that tall England player has a jump shot?”
crouchy’s just goated
Same with Embiid. He grew up playing soccer and volley ball
He’d be an insane goalie, no?
way too tall, need to be able to get down to the floor quickly. most keepers aren’t very tall at all compared to NBA players, 6’3 is around normal for a keeper I’d say over a foot under wemby lol
wemby height is too much but there are some tall keepers. Courtois is 6’7”. Czesny and Donnaruma are 6’5”.
not that tall by nba standards, but very tall by normal people standards
There’s some large strikers also. Crouch is 6’ 7” and Zlatan is 6’ 5” for example.
Edwin van der Sar is 6’6” 1m98 and is considered one of the best goalkeepers ever.
Courtois is 6’7”
He’s an exception, the vast majority of keepers are between 6’2 and 6’5.
Most athletes in every other sport aren’t very tall compared to nba players lol
There have been a decent number of goalkeepers in top European leagues that are NBA forward heights - like 6’5”-6’7” real height isn’t that uncommon so 6’6-6’9” NBA height.
If you just look at a list of the greatest goalkeepers of modern times you’ll see nearly all of them are like 6’4”+. The winner of the best goalkeeper award last year is 6’5” and the runner-up is 6’7”.
There are also tons of guys who are NBA guard heights at top level. Peter Crouch is 6’7” and played striker for England for 5 years. Erling Haaland is 6’5”, Zlatan is 6’5”, etc.
Which NBA player do you think would make the best goalie? Someone like a Kris Dunn who’s not too tall but has a huge wingspan and quick defensive reflexes?
Dennis Rodman, hands down.
David Raya is 6’
How much does height really affect getting to the ground quicker? I think the extra wingspan might be more valuable than the loss.
Quite a lot, we would guaranteed see 7 footers in goal if it was preferable/viable.
He was a GK his youth. Granted it was around 12-14 y old, but his former coach said he was nothing special. And that’s when physical abilities put you ahead even if your talent doesn’t show yet.
Sometimes you are meant to be a baller and not a soccer player.
More impressed with the ref doing it than Wemby. I expect wemby to be able to do that he is an whole athlete.
And he’s French. You’d probably struggle to find an athlete, maybe any person, in France who can’t juggle a football a few times.
Mimes can even do it with no ball at all.
Nah Wemby is 7’6 with nimble ass feet and touch like that. That is beyond impression. Referees usually played College ball, they’re not bums off the street lol
He’s a Parisian. The greatest location in the world for generating football talent. 21st century Brazil. You go literally anywhere and you’ll see kids playing. It would be insane if he couldn’t juggle a ball, he’s definitely been doing this longer than he’s known about basketball lol
I was in Paris for 5 days last month. Did not see one person playing soccer.
Which parts of the city did you visit?
They were protesting duh
Juggling in stride in this manner is not easy, it’s pretty impressive especially for his height
It’s not hard for an athlete growing up in france though either. I would fully expect 9 out of every 10 French Olympians to be able to do this.
it’s extremely easy lol, you just repeat the exact same movements over and over again and your walking momentum brings the ball with you
You go literally anywhere and you’ll see kids playing
Yeah the above is somewhat of a weird comment. I studied in Paris, albeit before psg became a sports washing project. Paris isn’t the Barcelona beaches or favelas in Brazil in terms of football outside. Parisians in inner city Paris show a strong preference for Rugby over football in general. It’s kind of changing with PSG but for example when the PSG takeover began it was viewed as immensely tacky by alot of Parisian professionals.
You won’t see many if any kids playing football from the 1-11 arrondissements in Paris. And in the suburbs it’s not really a street thing to the extent it is in Brazil either, there’s just shit tonnes of football cages on housing estates and outer suburbs
Paris is in a duality when it comes to football. Alot of the upper and upper middle class and Parisian professionals still turn their nose up to football in the inner city. It’s kind of changed with PSG’s pr rebrand though.
I wonder when he had to stop playing lol
These refs are athletes too. They run the floor with the rest of them
Wowww. An actual ref highlight
If he kicked the ball like that to Joey Crawford then he would have gotten a tech.
But this ref was ready for the moment.
That’s pretty dope. Acknowledgment would’ve been nice, but the nonchalance on top of the juggling from both of them is cold af
So smooth lmao. Love moments like these
Wemby didn’t acknowledge him :(
They were operating under the “cool guys don’t look at explosions” rule
I bet you Wemby’ll see the video and next time dap the ref up, they see each other frequently I’d assume.
Nice to see the refs trying to bond with the players. I don’t think Wemby was into it though
A lot of the NHL guys juggle soccer balls and kick to each other before games.
My head canon is Wemby was doing that before the game and the ref kicked it with him a bit and they continued it during the game.
That’s really cool
Who’s that ref anyway?
10⁄10 no notes. Maybe I should watch the sport they do this?
You should watch the sport, but this isn’t something you’re going to see in any matches.
Lol, I know. I’ve actually been watching a lot of serie a and champions league for a few years now - it’s good shit
Hell yeah, Serie A doesn’t have the advertising the Premier League or La Liga do, but to me it’s the most entertaining one.
For the first time in my life I’ve actually tried to watch the Premier League and it’s honestly been fun as hell
Having to wake up early is the only reason it’s not more popular than it is in the US imo
You should check out other leagues or teams as well. Each league has its distinct playstyles that are “meta” right now so the games look quite different between a Premier League game and a La Liga game for example. PL, La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A are the “big four” leagues (tho the PL is the richest and thus best on average).
The pinnacle of football/soccer is the Champions League. Europe’s best teams face off against each other to be crowned European champions. If a club does well in their domestic league they qualify for the Champions League (or the Champions League pre-elimination rounds) of the next season. It’s played concurrently with domestic leagues each season, with the games being played on tuesdays and wednesdays.
Ligue 1 erasure but I can’t really argue
I’ve watched a bit of La Liga (fucking love Jude Bellingham) and a couple Bundesliga games here and there, but there’s something uniquely fun about the Premier League in my (limited) experience
The English clubs seem to have some combination of hate and respect for each other that resonates with me, for whatever reason
It’s the pace what attracts many people to the PL.
Ref aura moment
Lmao W interaction tbh
That’s one cool ref thanks for posting this
Hardest shi I’ve ever seen
This video turned me gay somehow
I wasn’t familiar with your game
Oh, wow.
You thought Wemby was impressive???
The ref took a challenge there
Aaron Smith is in the wrong profession.
O hell yeah
That’s pretty hilarious to see.
Kinda aura
That’s a promo right there
Bro he makes the ball look soo small ts taking me out🤣🤣
Sick 🔥
Huh props to the ref there
