With OP’s username he might be a Hornets fan.

“We can recreate a point guard in the aggregate” (they can’t)

There is more job security in a perpetual rebuild for the front office.

Dont get me wrong im as big of a naz reid fan as anyone, i just cannot believe a team decided to trade melo for just him as the only player asset coming back. The picks could be valuable for sure but its just how much better we got for nothing this year

Picks and Culture change. Rick Schnall used to be involved with Hawks ownership. Lee is from the Bud tree. Jeff Peterson was a scout, basketball ops personnel, and eventually assistant gm of those mid-2010s Hawks Teams

They clearly wanted to do what Atlanta did when they got rid of Josh Smith, Jamal Crawford, Iso Joe, etc and built around a clean cut guy like Al Horford while also replicating 2020s OKC’s method of building the roster through picks.

I didn’t like the move, I still don’t like the move but its clear what Jeff is trying to do. it just seems like unnecessary gamble because of how much Charlotte was behind LaMelo, how rare it is for a franchise like charlotte to get a guy like LaMelo and how much hope the team finally had last season.

The argument for selling made sense, the price they sold for didn’t.

Just acknowledge that the people running Charlotte are incompetent, and it makes sense. They’re content with their tickets being on sale for $9 on Groupon. Their logic, “we can’t win a championship with LaMelo so rather than keep building a fun team that might sneak a series or two, let’s rebuild around more consistently average players.”

Lowkey, I feel like the Hornets was pissed that Melo pushed them to enough wins last season to lose out on guys like Boozer, AJ, and Caleb

I think it might’ve been a timeline thing. They want a core to match Kon’s age and contract.

plan for the Hornets

Misery. Same as it always has been.

Genuinely curious to see how sustainable it is this time, though.

When it happened I was convinced they knew he had hit someone with a car again and was facing serious repercussions or something. It made so little sense. Maybe they just got fed up with his persona and calling his kid LeOne and not taking care of his kid because it isn’t manly. Idk.

I think Charlotte is tanking for picks this year, by design. This lineup ain’t going anywhere in the EC

LaMelo is always injured and hasnt performed in big situations. They moved on from him because they have to pay Miller and Kon eventually, and didnt want to extend him further.

I’m not really sure what’s so confusing.

The Hornets knew their current roster wasn’t going to do anything, they would have kept paying LaMelo, who would spend a majority of the time injured even if they did get into a good groove. New contracts were coming for their younger players, and while they didn’t get anything too incredible for LaMelo, it certainly was more than they’d get a year or two ago.

They clearly saw high potential and a more seamless fit around Kon. Possibly to drop expectations and just let the young guys reach their max potential. Maybe a better star could join their team at a later date, lithe rockets did, who also didn’t hit on a superstar during their rebuild.

I’m more confused by this post. The hornets didn’t play the wolves, Kon didn’t even play. No one is asking like Naz Reid or Coby white are better players than LaMelo.

Agree or disagree with the thought process, LaMelo is a super injury prone fringe all star with a ball dominant play style.

That’s not exactly an ideal building block for a team that isn’t a contender

Idea was simple they knew they were gonna take a step back short term. Eventually you’re gonna have to pick between one Kon Miller And Melo they decided Melo was the one because he hasn’t ever really played 82 games and he don’t take shit seriously

I thought the issue was Melo being hurt? I guess not

It might be cope but this is his first game back from injury and he is on a minutes restriction. I’d give it some more time

And Melo was going to make you a contender?

Cade was on one last night. 5 steals? Sheesh

It’s been over 20 years of straight garbage bro I think we can conclude with relatively certainty at this point

This dude is acting like the Melo trade was like the Luka trade, it is nuts.

No I don’t think I will. Gonna do this till Jeff Peterson is fired in a year and a half

I’d have at least figured he played the Hornets today with a post like this lol
