This one seems surprising, if only because $5 million isn’t a significant investment

randotd152

44 | 3 hours ago

A PG who can’t defend and can’t shoot is kind of useless in this league.

$5M is not significant money, but it’s also not worth throwing away if you’re convinced a guy doesn’t have it.

Turbo2x | WAS

2 | an hour ago

It’s also crazy that a lot of his play style revolves around getting to the line but he’s shooting 58.6% on FTs. It’s like if Ben Simmons was trying to shoot more free throws. Wild misunderstanding of your strengths as a player.

One of the worst players in the league who gets minutes.

IShookMeAllNightLong | POR

66 | 3 hours ago

Unless he’s a supermassive blackhole on defense, those numbers at 5m don’t scream “worst player who gets minutes.” I admittedly don’t watch much Jazz basketball, though.

idkidk23 | DAL

49 | 3 hours ago

He is indeed a supermassive blackhole on defense. Without providing any impact on offense either even if he has okay counting stats.

thurstkiller | UTA

13 | 3 hours ago

He also has to have the ball to be useful at all on offense. Crazy high usage for a bench player.

IShookMeAllNightLong | POR

15 | 3 hours ago

I’ve seen other commentors say he’s a good backup pg, good court vision and better passing ability, but tends to be loose with the ball. Has taken a downward turn, according to at least one jazz fan, this year. But we’re 6 games in, could be a cold start for a bench guy who’s used to playing more minutes.

Paying double the vet min to a guy you know isn’t part of the long term vision when ur trying to turn around and compete when roomie extensions are coming up is pretty prudent decision making

Without defence and 3’s? Dont think so

Nervous_Box_3495 | UTA

27 | 3 hours ago

no defense, no threes, also cannot shoot free throws, which is exceptionally bad for his play style of putting his head down and driving down the lane directly into contact. he has to make more than 3 of his 7 free throws to be valuable as a driver. also very poor float range game. all around not great on a competitive team

He was a solid backup PG the last year, but he has been struggling so far this season. Also Utah has two other PGs on their roster for the next few years at least with Keyonte George and Darryn Peterson.

Redacted-Jungle

thought he was a decent floor general the few times I’ve caught him play, kindda surprised by this

OrangeScarface

2 | 3 hours ago

Yes and no. He’s very one dimensional and hasn’t made major improvements outside of his playmaking.

He needs the ball in his hands to really contribute anything, he can get assists like nothing, but that’s it. Jazz drafting DP who’s shown to be decent-to-good at playmaking was a nail in the coffin for him. Maybe a change in scenery will do him good.

Post ASB young guy on a bad team stat guy. Christain Wood made like $60m doing it.

I still remember when he was projected to be a top 3-5 pick in the draft coming out of HS

SunKing210 | SAS

25 | 3 hours ago

Damn, is he really that bad? I remember he was balling in his rookie year and looked like a great playmaker. He’s still young and I’m thinking a team like maybe the Rockets would take a flyer on him so that he could be their floor genral for their bench unit or something and then it actually working out in their favor

BlackMilk23 | BOS

Imagine a poor man’s Rondo but with less efficiency. And no defense. And less basketball IQ

CurrentRoster | WAS

7 | 3 hours ago

so why the rondo pull?

pakattack91 | TOR

15 | 3 hours ago

Imagine a Rondo without the height, reach, athleticism, basketball IQ, offensive or defensive capabilities, basically a whole lifetime knowing less about basketball than Rondo has forgotten in a day.

Thats why the Jazz arent signing me to a deal.

BlackMilk23 | BOS

4 | 3 hours ago

Whenever you have a pass first PG who can’t shoot he’s the starting point. And probably the best possible player in that archetype. So I just started from him and stripped skills away lol

SunKing210 | SAS

3 | 3 hours ago

Damn. So he’s a good enough playmaker but he’s just pretty much bad at everything else. There’s still time for him to rectify those flaws though and I’m genuinely curious to see how this pans out in the future

RandomUser_0726

He’s horrible. Don’t be fooled.

He can’t do anything outside of playmaking. He’s like Russ with less athleticism, no shot, and less energy.

Idk why people seem surprised in the comments. I think Collier can be a useful player, but you can say that for a lot of guards who get passed around the league.

Like what does he do that you couldn’t get out of Ryan Nembhard on a two-way?

Raymeis | ORL

6 | 3 hours ago

I would definitely take him on the magic

MrWhiteside97 | MIA

9 | 3 hours ago

I’m surprised by this. I’ve watched the Jazz this year, and he’s turnover prone but also can put his head down and blow by his guy with the right matchup. Good passer too.

Not sure who you’re getting for $5m a year that’s significantly better.

Was he a bad locker room guy? Didn’t seem it.

Silent-Frame1452 | UTA

26 | 3 hours ago

If you’ve watched the Jazz this year you’ll know he can’t shoot to save his life, fouls a lot and doesn’t play D. His turnovers have got worse too.

A quick first step and decent passing vision is nice, but not enough as a small guard.

MrWhiteside97 | MIA

1 | 3 hours ago

Fair enough! I knew he was a shaky shooter but didn’t know it was that bad, and the lack of D explains it if he’s not giving you consistency on offense

thedrcubed | MEM

11 | 3 hours ago

Their offense completely stalls with him in. He overdribbles and burns the whole shot clock before putting his head down and attempting to drive which he is inefficient at. He’s a negative player right now

thurstkiller | UTA

Rough start of the season for him. 37/0/58 shooting splits.

He won’t be coveted by any good GM. He dribbles the air out of the ball on every position, can’t shoot, can’t play D and loves giving up hot potatoes. I wouldn’t sign him for the minimum

Incredibly quick and very talented passer/great transition player/rim pressure guy. Can’t shoot a lick which limits his playmaking in the half court and would make him a non factor in the playoffs. Defensively shows flashes he could be at least neutral but comes and goes.

COVETED

[Scotto] The Utah Jazz will decline their team option on Isaiah Collier worth $4.99 million for the 2027-28 season, sources told @hoopshype. Collier has averaged 9.9 points, 6.6 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steals in three seasons. He’ll be a coveted unrestricted free agent.
