Active under-contract players (and staff, and families too) shouldn’t be able to endorse gambling or “prediction markets” and keep playing. Or use said platforms. Period. Too many conflicts of interestEdit: or team/league sponsorships too
I hate how high profile players are normalizing gambling
Gambling is a cancer
He’s absolutely right. It’s not just about the money. You’re stamping your name on that product or service or vice every time you sign a sponsorship deal or do a commercial or make an appearance. That’s YOU now. YOU are polymarket. YOU are DraftKings. YOU are helping ruin peoples lives, especially young people, by taking advantage of their addiction whether they’re aware that they have it yet or not.
YOU are a bad person for signing up for it. Full stop. You can say all you want about generational wealth and taking care of family and whatever else the usual excuse is. But it matters how you made that money. It’s always mattered how you made the money, the difference is now athletes have more opportunity and (seemingly) more willingness to be partners in life running products
I wanna choose to be 7”5 with a guard’s handle
I have never gambled and don’t have any of these apps and still almost every other ad I get when I go online is from a gambling company. It’s nauseating for me, so can only imagine what it is like for those who’re struggling or are vulnerable to addiction.
Whataboutery this all you want, but at least someone is calling this out for what it is never mind someone with Wemby’s platform.
As a Rockets fan I despise him because he is a 7 ‘5 monster with potential to embargo whole Western Conference but he is a principled human I would like to hang out with. Fuck Wemby the player, Long live Wemby the person
What’s crazy is that guys like LeBron, Giannis etc are already super rich. Why would they need even more money ? I can’t comprehend this level of greed.
You could sign with anything else, make less money but still be richer than 99.9% or the population.
Fuck Sports gambling
Not being a complete sellout is offensive to my culture as an American.
love to see it by wemby
Adam Silver rolling in his grave.
here in the philippines, online gambling went from 0-100 in a blink of an eye. it’s fucking insane.
Not taking advantage of others is Un-American.
Every time I see an influencer or celebrity promoting these gambling ads, I think to myself damn there’s people out there worshipping these figures who are monetizing on their downfalls 😂🤣😂
Certain fanbases going to pop in with “this actually makes him bad because ________”
I have a friend who has won a net of \(12,000 sports gambling over the years. On the flip side of the coin - this person showed another close friend how easy it was to make money sitting on your couch, showing him his constant winnings and giving him FOMO. Fast forward 6 years and his gambling debt has snowballed to \)40k, his girlfriend left him, and he’s working 2 part time jobs (uber and waiter) while working a 9-5. He’s recently mentioned how he feels nothing anymore and we are growing very concerned about the state of his mental health.
I love the social consciousness this guy promotes. He takes his position of influence seriously.
Seeing a lot of mentions of LeBron but not of Giannis. Always knew LeBron was a sellout but thought better of Giannis
If you look at gambling addiction rates for kids under 18 it has fucking sky rocketed.
It’s actually a gigantic problem no one is really talking about.
I wish more athletes would be like Victor about what they promote off the court. It’s sad and frustrating to see athletes cave to money. They already make so much from their contracts.
This guy’s principles fucking rule.
A second plane hit LeBron
He’s right!
