Good point man. Getting of JB was a huge relief just to get the deal done.

Too late, Paul George is gonna start his podcast again.

Guy coming off PED suspension is playing his best ball in longtime… I wonder why

JB significantly better playoff performer than PG too

More than health I think it’s endurance. He was completely healthy against the Celtics in the playoffs after half a season of rest but his legs were completely shot by the 2nd round

PG was not this good for us. If he had been we wouldn’t have been looking to make the trade.

Paul George is 8th all time on the 3 Pointers Made list but is never talked about as one of the greatest shooters of all time. Granted that list is going to be constantly changing in the 3 point era but it’s clear that PG is a historically underrated player.

It’s been great to see him in Green. Absolutely mutually beneficial trade despite the public outcry.

He just has a history of not being available and that doubt in availability can lead to doubt in the talent

Hating him became a meme. I’ve talked to a lot of people who struggled to come up with one solid reason behind the hate when I asked them why PG was one of their least favorite players in the league.

I feel like everyone recognizes what he brings to the table when healthy… but it’s that “when healthy” part that makes people wary of him as a key member of a team.

He’s one of the most plug and play superstars out there, shame injuries caused so much trouble to him

I’ve always thought he had one of the most well rounded games in basketball. I would always take him in fantasy basketball because he would stuff the stat sheet and be a serious multi category contributor. And then every season I’d be reminded why I need to look at total stats and not averages whenever he gets hurt.

I honestly want him to just take 25 games off in the Feb-March range and just be healthy for the playoffs again. Take the time off, hurt or not

Who on this sub hates him? I was happy when the JB trade went down but mainly for JB. PG was a solid player here.

I do remember the playoff P thing was made fun of and that Gatorade commercial but he was generally liked.

And Tatum too lol

he’s able to keep up the defensive intensity this late into his career but it kinda seems he’s been able to “rest” more on offense

This, in general, is an enormous positive of the Celtics offense for all their players. It’s not just about playing math ball and taking as many 3’s as possible, but there’s also a side benefit of expending less energy on offense which lets players put more effort in on D.

No the issue is his contract is huge and he’s never healthy and it’s annoying y’all are so dumb to not understand that while acting like there’s some fake narrative when it’s your ignorance.

this sub tends to hate every basketball player that’s fun to watch, kyrie, KD, PG, you name it.

This sub tends to hate PG

So weird reading that. He spent the better part of a decade being like one notch below LeBron/Hakeem/Dirk/Duncan on the r/nba worship chart.

It’s only been 6 games, but one of the big differences I see this season is our offense stays flowing which results in better shots overall. But there’s a much better overall feel for when to reset to a secondary action, and I think this is leading to fewer late clock chucked threes and more deliberate late clock sets. IMO, this is the catalyst for the change in Tatum’s shot selection, getting to the rim and the FT line a lot more instead of chucking side steps.

PG has an amazing off ball game. He’s played well off any first options he was with: Kawhi, Russ, Harden, etc.

JB is playing pretty well from a team perspective. He’s passing and sharing the ball better than I thought. Had a shit game against the Hornets but outside of that he’s been very good. He has his moments where he’ll go full ISO, especially down the stretch, but I love it. We needed someone outside of Maxey that can go get a tough bucket when we need it.

Yup. Hated r/nba shitting Brad for the trade. Yes, trade could have been better if there were more buyers, but PG is expiring next year so can off load w/o much issue even if not work out.

Notably the only reason we reduced our current payroll is because Paul George is a good guy who declined his trade bonus. Had he still accepted it, as was his right, his cap number would have been the same as Brown’s this year.

Next year won’t be a second apron year due to the three-in-five rule but after that, yep.

Oddly enough i think this version of the Sixers would be better with a healthy PG over Brown. Hes not a problem now, but i sense sometime in the near future he will be based on how many top dogs are on that team.

Like i said theyre all saying and doing the right things now, its just ive seen NBA superstar egos for a long time and this rarely lasts too long.

Well the Celtics shopped him to the whole league in the summer and tried to trade him at the deadline, nobody valued him highly enough to offer a haul.

Ain’t nobody paying more for JB lol. The guy will demand $70 mil a year this offseason, and he’s worth nowhere near that

I think it’s pretty clear that Stevens farmed out JB to the entire league and found no package more attractive for him.

And really, this trade ticked all the boxes. Got rid of an oversized contract with a looming extension, got back a very good player on a better contract, saved enough money to get the team under the luxury tax and reset its cap hell, and got two 1sts (and two 2nds). They have all the flexibility in the world now after this season.

No, it’s not the sexy “5 firsts for Jaylen Brown” type deal some would have liked to see. But this is probably better for where the Celtics are at rolling into Tatum’s prime.

What was KAT traded for when he went to the Knicks? What was Kawhi traded for? What did the Suns get for trading Durant? What was Trae Young traded for? Or Anthony Davis to the Wizards?

The idea that Brown should have gotten a bigger haul is just not really that true.

The Celtics I’m sure would have liked some godfather deal to make it look like they made away like bandits, but that wasn’t Brown’s value around the league.

Different teams want different things. You’ve got guys like Rudy Gobert, Mikal Bridges and Desmond Bane going for 5 first round picks, yet Harden at only 32 years old and still a top 20 player was traded from Brooklyn to Philadelphia for bad-back-afraid-to-shoot Ben Simmons and 2 first round picks. How do you square that?

It’s just that the return should’ve been more for JB

Based on what? What is the basis of this stupid shit that gets repeated by people

Celtics were trying to trade him for years, what is this return you speak of? If his value was that good why weren’t teams lining up for him?

How many teams wanna give assets + pay Jaylen Brown 60m+ in his early 30s?

With the sixers history, bet he plays 82 games and Jaylen Brown gets Novichok poisoning

Okay but nobody thought he’d start out playing this well. He’s playing more like his ³²⁄₃₃ year old self not his 36 year old self which has been an amazing change so far

Yeah I’m still not sure how we didn’t come away with both clippers picks from Philly

Ehhh if the rumors of rift between JB and JT were true, I feel like JB would’ve been gone anyways

They are passing the eye test of a much better team, that’s for sure. If the Celtics win on bad shooting nights, it’s crazy.

Defensively we are much better. Healthy 36 year old PG looks like a phenomenal defender.
