Genuine question from a foreigner who has only been to one game in the US (Playoffs Nets vs 76ers in 2019 in Brooklyn, Philadelphia won by 2 points IIRC)
How much of it is due to wrong mics for the audience (handheld/directional) or sound engineering choices?
And how much of it is due to people/casuals not caring about the WNBA here?
Because even watching live games on streams, it seems that the sound we get from the crowds in a lot of arenas does not translate when people are directly talking into a mic on the court, during Time Out performances for instance.
I’ve been to a few arenas (Chase, Staples, Intuit, Barclays, etc.) and chase center is by far the worst. The crowd engagement is so sad and hallow. It honestly feels like the people there use the warriors as more of a status symbol, than to actually support the team. When they were in Oracle, they were 10x better.
The Valkyries games are extremely loud and energetic though. I believe some sound readings put it louder than Oracle.
Honestly even during the height of the Warriors before Chase it was just a status symbol. I love living in the bay but the people are fickle.
I really hope N.C. gets a WNBA team again one day. Until then I’ll root casually for the Valks.
