I think alot of NBA fans kind of underrate him much developing players were in the 2019 Toronto Raptors and how deep that team really was in terms of overall potential, veteran presence and star power. I would just imagine how good that team was if every one there were in their peak forms.

You can’t win without being great. And deep.

And more importantly, healthy

Chrispaulisgarbage | TOR

Raptors weren’t healthy at all, og out all playoffs, lowry broken thumb and kawhi limping on one leg. Thats basketball tho

RonBakerErasure

-3 | 8 hours ago

Compared to the warriors they were extremely healthy. Not that a broken thumb is nothing but if it doesn’t keep you out, you’re healthy in the finals.

Plus Kawhi hobbling on one leg is literally just Kawhi. Not worth flagging as an injury tbh, that’s just what he is.

DamesBeenTamed

Kd out for the finals and klay out for only the very last quarter of game 6. I wouldn’t call the Raptors “extremely more healthy”.

FindingUsernamesSuck | TOR

-2 | 7 hours ago

That’s quite solid health for a playoff team I’d say. I think everyone is banged up by the time the Finals roll around.

The best ability is availability

Derrick roses prime wasnt the same age as most stars just because he wasn’t healthy those year / injuries robbed his athleticism

CazOnReddit | TOR

He’s also a historically, notoriously difficult player archetype to win a championship with ie the non-floor spacing, hyperathletic one-way guard

CanadianBread402 | TOR

I don’t think OG played a single minute those playoffs if I’m remembering correctly as well.

CanadianBread402 | TOR

14 | 9 hours ago

Also, our point guard play was severely underrated throughout that run. Kyle really showed up and VanVleet was downright unplayable at times (people were calling for Lin to play over him during the Philly series) but my god did he ever dawg Curry during the finals.

It’s hard to remember now because it was so long ago but I have to admit I do remember calling for his head myself. But looking back on it I doubt Lin would’ve been any better. That Philly team was the real deal

I recall there being a game (game 3?) where our bench put up like 8 points and we got destroyed lol

Thing is I don’t know if the Miami LeBron would have played pg to perfection like 2020 Bron did. He was so different as a player then. Still think him and AD would have made it work, but the style of play would likely be completely different

If we’re doing hypotheticals, with all due respect to Norm, I’m taking peak FVV or OG instead of him in the starting lineup.

FindingUsernamesSuck | TOR

1 | 7 hours ago

We’d have a stumpy backcourt and no bench floor general if FVV started next to Lowry. I know we did it in later years, and both guys are obviously competent but it’s not ideal.

Also don’t think OG as a guard works, you’d have to make Kawhi shooting guard which again, would work but not ideal.

We’d beat the 2016 Cavs with that team

but we beat them on paper in 2018 too.

Your_real_watermelon

As a Canadian I can confidently and sadly say we would still not beat the 2016 Cavs with that team.

Edit: Raptors would have a single matchup advantage with Marc Gasol at the 5 but besides that Cavs are still stronger.

Physizist

All in their prime? Yes we would

Bro we already took them 6 games… tbh even the team as it was, give me 2019 raps

Your_real_watermelon

They literally beat the 73-9 warriors who won the chip the year before. It would be a hell of a matchup but I believe the cavs still take it.
