The younger players on this team want to learn but aren’t projects. I love maxey, I don’t know of a more committed year to year improvement in the league, and he has a 5 gallon bucket of knowledge now

He’s a legitimately good PoA defender now, which is a huge contributing factor to why our defense is towards the top of the league right now. Embiid can be a true help defender instead of constantly having to make up for turnstiles at the guard spot.
The other factor is that they have all clearly bought in on that end. The blitz and recover they were running last night would have been a disaster in prior years but they looked very much like Nurses old Raptors squads last night which were so disruptive.
Maxey’s baby face will always have people thinking he’s young. This is his seventh season in the league. He’s legit a seasoned veteran at this stage that just happens to play alongside someone old enough to be his dad, hah. You are right though, a team that has ‘young’ players and rookie contract youngsters with higher floors than their peers puts them in great position.
I mean yes but he’s still only 25, not really even the peak of his prime yet (imo normally 27-29 for most stars).

The general thoughts going around was only one ball for so many ball dominant players, Embiid has one knee, Lebron is old, Lebron would screw up VJ’s development, etc.

the combination of last season and this season is the ideal development for any starting caliber player. Throw you in the fire to develop your on ball hustle while getting used to the new caliber of competition, and then put you in your natural role that you’ve been developing your whole life. Now when everybody is out load managing VJ knows what to do with the ball in his hands, and when everybody is back he can slide into his two way bag.
