Poor Luka ts now bound to be in every Steph highlight reel and documentary
Along with Chris paul not bad company to be in honestly
Here’s hoping Luka won’t be sharing company with CP3 in another department
He will.
Is he gonna hit a huge 3 to cut the lead to 37?
Oh he will be best believe that
He’s also on Wiggins for that nasty dunk he ate
he provides for the dub fanbase tbh, love Luka
Thunder are locked in too thanks that stupid fucking logo 3…
If it’s the 3 I’m thinking about it was basically from half court to win the game.
they do have a timeout…
Choose not to use it…
Forever!
This shouldn’t even be a big deal. Breaking someone’s ankles is impressive, but Luka is one of the worst defenders out there. But he is a superstar, so this is going to get replayed often.
It was a push off with the off hand tho.
Not even that subtle
LOL this is cope brother
How ironic
Watch all ankle breakers highlights that still get replayed to death. Alot of it have some contact too. Heck MJ’s famous pullback gamewinner also has a slight push off
Mikes shot was in an era where it was hand to hand combat and handchecking.
Totally different context…btw. So your whataboutism fails badly
Copium at its finest.
Splashed with anonymous whataboutism and but everybody doesitism.
Damn we’re so lucky to still be watching this kind of ball from Steph 🔥 More than generational talent
Greatest PG of all time
Second greatest ever behind MJ. he’s the most skilled player ever and chanted the game more than anyone ever. And had the greatest impact on the court than anyone ever even when he doesn’t have the ball, off the charts. https://youtu.be/NjYX7jc0dOI?is=qR2Qqj0z_WfQd5Km
Michael Jordan is more of a shooting guard than a point guard. He played the point sometimes but majority of the time he was a shooting guard
I am talking about all players ever.
PG? Really???
Let’s not do this
Crazy that we consider Steph a PG. I know NBa players have “official positions” but Stephnis not a PG in the true sense of one. He doesn’t even facilitate the offense. The majority of the time he’s running off screens trying to get open, à la Reggie Miller.
Magic Johnson, your welcome
3rd greatest all time for me and I’m taking him #1 in an all time draft
I know there’s no such thing as a guarantee… but there was a 0% chance that shot doesn’t go in as soon as Luka fell down.
You can see him taking that extra breath to line it up and make sure it’s all net 😊
To make sure the sequence makes the highlights
And the highlights it made
he referenced the james harden shimmy in the post-game nightcap interview too
Water is wet
Every single person watching last night knew that was going in
Luka drop 37 ptsSteph drop 77
Imagine getting dropped, you know if they make the shot it’s solidified as a massive highlight, and the person taking the shot is Steph Curry💀
It might help that you got crossed by Steph, cause like it’s Steph ya know? Everyone gets torn up by him.
I’d hate to get on a highlight reel crossed by like Lance Stephenson or something though.
It also helps if you says “you got dropped by a 38 year old”
Also would you rather get crossed by Lance and only have 100k watch or get dropped by Steph and it gets a billion views?
Lance Stephenson isn’t going to be remembered forever though, getting crossed hard by a legend means you’ll be popping up nearly every time they get mentioned in the future and the broadcast wants to play some of their highlights while they talk about him. Like I’m sure MJ has gotten crossed harder in his career than the time he guarded rookie AI but that one pops up all the time.
Imagine being on a Kyle Anderson highlight reel
And the thing is, this might not even be in the top 20 highlight of Steph’s career
Like fuckkkkkkk
That’s a goat camera man too
I think they are usually humans but not entirely sure.
That’s what makes it such a humorous situation!
It subverts the expectation that the camera person be human as well as the expectation that a goat is not dextrous enough to operate a camera, it’s really quite a laugh
There’s no rule that says a goat can’t film basketball.
They’ve forgotten what it’s like not to have any oranges
Sky Fucker in full effect!
One thing you can’t complain about the NBA is the camera work. Everybody has seen that cameraman recording a 3 point contest following the release and the ball flawlessly.
this could be just cropped from the on court footage.
Must be the same dude who captured those Brunson highlights in the finals.
Made him click his heels together like Dorothy lol
MAN DOWN ON YELLOW SWISH ROAD
ok i’ll stop now
This was good 👍
If that was an original you’re going places big dawg
yep! in almost realtime lol. the guy on the broadcast was slinging some really dry ones like calling Niang “the hunan lowlight film” lol
No no keep going man
“There’s no place like the floor…”
Luka Dontrip
Stepping on or right in front of their foot will do that. Im the least luka defender out there but ankle breaking isn’t where feet get entangled. You gotta actually do that without tripping them.
a defender is responsible for their own feet fam. a good dribbler is taught to attack the ankles. his lead foot was out of place, it got attacked, he fell. there is more ball to know. get to it
But that doesn’t make it an ankle breaker. This is a different point entirely. A defender getting tangled with the ball handler who actively is shoving him doesn’t strike ankle breaker to me. All im saying. Good move? Yes. Foot tangle and shove? Yes.
where did I name it as such? A defender has to maintain balance. a tap when they are off balance will send them flying. to the average nephew it looks like a shove but if you’ve ever either done it or had it done to you, it involves extreme timing and good ballhandling skills as well as a sense of the balance of the defender. By these narrow nephew rules only AI’s crossover is an “ankle breaker” and there’s only a handful of highlights where the defender actually fell (one of my Wizards fell twice and did two handplants)
Steph didn’t trip him, it just kinda looks like that from the angle. Luka just rolled his foot and tripped over himself.
yes it happens when your mind says one thing but your body reacts to lightning quick moves from generational athletes. none of us can relate to it at that level but it has or will happen to any baller that tries to play defense
none of us can relate to it at that level
Not true at all! I’ve stumbled like a fool just walking unobstructed and then making a sudden decision to turn back! So I can definitely relate.
Yet this rarely happens
Im not saying he tripped him but the reason he fell is because stephs foot is exactly in front of his and he cant lift his. He is trying to lift that foot which is why the back foot is coming down. It isn’t malicious or even a foul imo but it isn’t really a traditional ankle breaker. The sport has people stepping and bumping all the time and thats just natural but an ankle breaker should include no contact or an obvious shifting the handler did to make that person off balance.
Im not saying he tripped him but the reason he fell is because stephs foot is exactly in front of his and he cant lift his.
No no, I know what you’re saying/seeing. I’m saying if you pause it as Luka’s ankle starts to roll, you can see that there was space between their feet.
There was not foot contact here though. I’m on mobile so maybe it’s different for you but I can drag frame by frame and you can clearly see from the perspective there is space between their feet when Luka stumbles. His foot is actually almost parallel to Steph’s and Steph placing his foot in front of Luka’s cutting off his slide balance and forcing him to re-direct while also cutting back right is what breaks his ankles. No foot contact, but a shifty offensive move that forces the defender off balance, just like you said.
After seeing what Curry and LeBron are doing at their age, I wonder how many years they still have left..
Please add KD to that.
Based on my calculations this fuckery can’t go on much longer
Curry can play into his 70s
Bron got like a couple left.
I am hope at least another 2-4 years for Curry Durant and LeBron.
3 and 5 respectively
Bron 5 years left?
LOL
Definitely 3 at most for bron. I predict he plays both these years with the 76ers and announces his farewell tour on a final single contract
The fuckery will continue until morale improves.
it’s called a joke.
yeah, it definitely was a joke.
You would be the only one
So this is why Luka doesn’t play defense.
“Why doesn’t he try harder?” Gets absolutely bent “lol white boy ain’t got no motion”
Also shows that his offensive footwork is pure bbiq and anticipation because it looks like he has cement feet on defense when reacting.
A lot of it his his weight/strength to move guys
chris paul you can FINALLY rest 🙏🏿
If this clip was your introduction to basketball, you’d think Luka was 38 and Steph was 27.
Steph used that lead foot to trap Luka, clean dribbling, and a legitimate ankle breaker. Sorry to all the Doncic-bots in the original thread, there was no trip
I mean Curry did try to push him but Luka wasn’t even keeping up with him lol. the ankle breaker is legit and I am seething. Get this shit off my feed lmao. I’m this close to making a song out of Ayeshas documentary voice clips.
this is a weird ankle breaker luka isnt really moving his feet much to get crossed. it seems like a sniper got him he was just doing a casual shuffle left and died
Tbh I just thought he was trying to sell the contact
I was hoping he was selling but when I saw he got his feel tangled I knew he just got cooked
he’s going right but it doesn’t matter. his feet were just to slow. I know it’s not his ankles that gave out but that’s for the better. Slow feet. Simple as.
Slow feet by a player trying to keep up with Steph, who gave the impression he was going hard to the left.
Breaking ankles is about taking advantage of your opponents footwork. The reason he caught Luka is he faked going left, forced Luka to change his stance, and then used a quick first step that Luka needed to catch up with. But by the time he picked up his trailing foot, Curry switched the move up, the drive was a fake. Luka tried to recover, but his trailing foot was still in motion, leading to his falling over.
This is one of the cleanest ankle breakers of all time. There’s a little touch on Luka, but the main work being done is in changing directions before Luka could set his feet.
That’s why great defenders try to shorten their steps. Big foot motions are easy to take advantage of by changing directions.
all time??? no chance
The extended arm yes.
Looking at the video, I think Steph’s right foot immediately stopped Luka’s right foot, and that caused his momentum to swing backwards and to the side
Look close. He just couldn’t keep up. He tripped over his own feet
Get this shit off my feed lmao. I’m this close to making a song out of Ayeshas documentary voice clips.
That is gold LOL.
This is so funny to me. I love sports because really makes you feel the full range of emotions.
The fact we can laugh at something that makes us angry is great.
I don’t really know why this is being called an ankle breaker at all lol. It’s somehow both more and less embarrassing.
Steph isn’t even really making his move when Luka falls. Luka just trips over his own two feet, Steph has like a half second of confusion before he steps back to shoot
Luka hit that instinctual look at the ref the second he fell lol
To me it looks like Curry’s moves got Luka’s body momentum going right with his center of gravity being held up by his right foot as he’s trying to push back to his left, and Curry’s push is enough to get Luka’s right ankle to roll and collapse his balance. Sick play regardless but that’s what I see
There definitely was an extended arm push though.
You can’t make physical contact with the defender and still call it a drop lmao.
Man one knows the level of conversation is particularly bad when there is a Clippers flair defending a Lakers player.
Well I love basketball more than team affiliations, so I won’t let my bias change the truth 🤣
Poetry in motion. I never was a Warriors fan or a Curry fanboy but this man is a gem for our sport.
How can you not love watching Steph. It’s like watching Wemby for me. Just so fun from a basketball fan perspective even if he isn’t on my team
Nah, fuck that, I can’t stand watching Steph. Flair related 😂
But he is on your team…
He’s talking about wemby..
lucky us…
I cant wait to see Luka pose in one of those videos where they put in a photo doing something else after getting dropped😂
Shooting Stars
Curry had me yelling” LUKA NOO GEEEETT UPP” at midnight
And people say his short form isn’t beautiful. It’s like watch Picasso paint
Not a push, just swiped his chest downwards. Luka’s feet tells the whole story here too, he got his ankles took and that’s all there is to it.
TBH in the moment, I thought Steph got away with a push that affected Luka’s balance. Not enough to warrant an offensive foul - contact with hands happens all the time.
But watching this? That was a very very light push-off from a much smaller player and shouldn’t have caused Luka to lose his balance.
Like you said, Luka’s feet tell the whole story. Steph’s threatening to drive hard to his left caused Luka’s slow feet to collide and there is no way Luka doesn’t fall down at that point. Bad footwork caused by the threat of a guy with great handles and quickness.
I love that Steph is so aware of iconic moments like this. Steph is one of the smartest players I’ve ever seen in either baiting a defender to jump, then dribbling to the side to get an open shot. Or in this case, taking his sweet time to lock in the shot. Then the celly afterwards.
There will never be another quite like Steph Wardell Curry.
That both got their hands on each other at the same time too
When you push someone moving laterally in the same direction they are already moving, it doesn’t take much to throw them off balance. That’s just how inertia works.
This is very hard to explain to people who don’t play sports. A light push to a moving person is no different than a hard push to a still person
I guess, but it seems like it should be obvious.
There are entire martial arts like Judo essentially built around the idea of using other people’s momentum against them because it’s much, much easier to throw an opponent in the direction they are already moving.
Wardell is his first name.
Gonna have to disagree a bit. Luka is balanced on his right foot, which is gonna be natural for a split second when you’re sliding. Steph pushes him at that exact time, causing Luka’s foot to roll over and therefore can’t bring it back underneath him when he’s trying to bring the left over to it.
Yes, Luka wasn’t going to keep up but it was absolutely Steph’s push that knocked him off balance enough to trip.
Yeah it was a light push in the air, you can see his midsection move and his left foot get caught on his right as he tries to move them. Beautiful play, bad defense and poetry on the shot, Steph is an amazing player. This is just a finals MJ situation for me where the narrative is so good I happily pretend to not see it.
All these dislikes must come from Steph fans
Yeah, people see what they want to see when it comes to certain players. Some guys only flop, some guys only play defense by fouling etc. Steph is an all-time great, but this sub does tend to overlook some of the negative stuff he does, all while claiming he gets beat up on the court like he’s in Guantanamo Bay.
Yup. A good number of ankle breakers are the defender’s feet getting stepped on by the offensive guy or maybe a slip on a wet spot. This was as pure of an ankle breaker as there is. Straight up snatched.
He did push him with extended arm while Luka was shuffling his feet. You see it obviously in seconds 4-5 in the video. Even a light push can make you fall while you’re shuffling from side to side.
Right? A light push is still a push. Especially while someone is off balance.
I mean, even if you wanna call it a push, nobody is getting that call vs Steph, and Luka is known for poor defense. It was a weak flop attempt if you are trying to be generous to Luka.
That’s still a push off. Offensive foul . Other players get called for that all the time when playing in the paint with their forearms where the plays are way more physical
NBA players are funny because you see that stonewall and you just know they’d all be going nuts if they were on a different team
Golf might be the only sport where your opponent will cheer for you doing something amazing.
But there is also a ton of shit talking in golf and this sub has made it clear it can’t handle such a thing.
I can picture it happening in tennis depending on the player.
Sometimes they give a little clap
Yes in well fought points or in response to great shots, unless there is strong personal animosity.
I’ve seen it grudgingly given on drop serve. The one that followed garnered a less favorable response 😆
Reddit as a whole feels like it’s never played a competitive sport. “Shit talking is only allowed to people I don’t like.”
Seriously man some of the best shit talk is between friends even.
Makes sense. The overwhelming majority of reddit users are the literal embodiment of every neckbeard living in Mom’s basement stereotype. It’s maybe .5%, at best, of reddit users who have ever done anything competitive outside of video games.
Literally play almost any sport and you’ll understand why you/your team wont celebrate the opponent pulling 360 no scopes on you.
Lol for real these people have never played in a sport
Had a dude dunk on us in our rec league and unbounded that shit so quick 🤷🏾♂️
You’re not revealing some mysterious lost wisdom, dildo.
The comment is about highlighting the contrast between their professional demeanor and comportment vs them being lifelong hoopers that would obviously get riled up seeing that in any setting where their direct superior isn’t the one face planting.
Do YOU understand the subtext now?
Edit: I apologize for the name call but you came in too hot to go unchecked
The one player immediately standing up is getting traded
JJ mad ass hella. He is thinking this guy won’t play defense again after this.
Did he cry to the refs after that drop?
As good a case as he’s ever had.
He didn’t cry this time because he knew he got embarrassed in national tv after flapping his gums all night
Didn’t he drop a 3 over Steph on the next possession?
Didn’t the LukaLakers lose by 17 after leading by 25?
Doesn’t matter. It won’t live on forever the way Steph’s will in all-time career highlight reels
Against GP2, not Steph.
Can i ask what shoes is steph wearing?
Li Ning
Thanks, I just searched and this shoes just debuted today. Its fire.
“The ankle breaker”
I wonder how many people know that Li Ning was an Olympic gold medal winning gymnast :-) I saw him the first time in 1982 during the Asian Games in New Delhi- very vivid memories because we had just got TV.Then recently I see his name all over the place as an entrepreneur and had to confirm it was the same dude.(Totally unrelated side note, the same 1984 games where Li Ning won his gold also featured a man called Mitch Gaylord on the american men’s team who later went on to star in some “erotic thrillers” LOL)
Only learned about him after Steph signed with them. His business ethos is performance over profits.
You better not fucking ask, don’t you dare
Wait what?
“Can I ask”
Do not even fucking think about it
The expressions on the Lakers’ bench, priceless!
At that point you should just give up on the play and hope Steph misses lol
Everyone on Gt said he tripped on his foot but doesn’t look like it dang
One of these players is 38, and it’s not the one on the ground
if that’s a push every iconic jordon shot is an offensive foul
If that’s a push Shai is an offensive lineman.
Notice there was no travel. Unreal for that to be possible.
Jordan’s most iconic shot literally is lol. But this isn’t his arm is already fully extended when he makes little contact
Bruh it wasnt even a push. He barley even grazed him with his fingers lmao. Luka lost his balance completely.
Clean drop 🔥
Full arm extension and he stepped on Steph shoes
me when I don’t have eyes
Lol his arm is fully extended and planted under luka’s armpit directly before he falls.
Watch Luka’s feet. His left foot trips on his right foot as he try’s to play defence -not his strong suit. He fell in the direction he was trying to move. No mystery..elite offence vs sub par defence = expected result.
barley touched him with his fingers and Curry swipes DOWN not even push.
It was clean bruh, im sorry.
Thats a LuLaFlop. Luka is getting the calls, so he is using it.
Guess what. Many of them where.
It moved him a little more off balance than he already was, and contributed to him falling. I always have an issue with players extending/ pushing past their elbow, which seems to be certain players only way to create space.
Push and accidental tripped.
Nope
Def a trip, but thats how 1⁄2 these plays happen anyway.
Slow the video down, you can see him trip on his own feet
It shouldn’t be a foul, but it obviously is a push by every definition of the word.
A bunch of pussies, he barely grazed him
Lol dude, it’s not even a chicken wing. He gets full fucking extension on the off-arm push here.
Enjoy the highlight and the gloating. Let the hate flow through you. The guy doesn’t play for my team anymore, so I don’t care. But the the outright lying is insane.
Mavs fans having a full meltdown over this is great
Lol literally just noting the most obvious full arm extension push-off of all time
if that is a push, then Luka’s hand on Steph’s hip was hand checking
This is the clearest video have seen. Looks like he tripped himself lol
So he got his ankles broke
Curry right hand may have helped a bit too…
“It was the equivalent of a maître d’ showing someone to their table.”
Listen I don’t pay for awards so here you go: 🏆💎
They’re free
Highly doubt that.
Luka already left the ground and then the shove moved him further and caused his foot to knock into his other foot earlier than if he hadn’t gotten the extra shove..
Go get eyes checked immediately
Up to the refs and we know how moody and inconsistant they can be as that off arm is an emphasis point this season. Basically could have been called a foul aswell
No it couldn’t. You clearly don’t watch enough games
From this angle it almost looks like Luka was trying to flop and sell the “push”. It wasnt much of a push. And it looked embarassing because of that.
I very much doubt Curry’s hand is moving 250lb Luka out the way like that.
Watch it again, it was Luka on one foot, much easier to get someone off balance on 1 foot.
Amazing how not a single nba redditor has ever taken a physics class. He pushed him in the direction he was already moving, using his momentum against him.
Do you know what judo is? It is very easy to throw someone much larger than you by disrupting their balance and throwing them in a direction that they’re already moving.
Bro got hands like thanos 😭
You can’t speak the truth here brother. Lots of Curry dickriders here in this thread 🤣
Jeez seriously! Like Im not a luka stan and he was definitely getting crossed up but the hand is hard to deny didnt do anything
Physics says no. I asked.
Take your homer glasses off and ask again!
Hard to tell, but I think Curry’s shoe clips Luka’s shoe
There are more videos that shows their shoes didn’t touch.
No push, no trip.
All clean.
Highly entertained by all the wishful scrutiny trying to buoy Luka, though.
Wasn’t this supposed to be a revenge game for Luka?
I love this for him.
