The win happened because of rock solid team defense that completely shut down the Lakers bench. It blows my mind how Kerr can get a pretty mediocre to poor roster to play this well as a group on defense.

I feel like Kerr himself is underrated in his defensive preference even for his worse teams these recent years. Last season when half of the team were injured the team still competed defensively.

Harbaugh_Handshake | GSW

95 | 4 hours ago

Kerr is very underrated.

The fact that there’s a significant faction of our fanbase that fucking hates him and has wanted him gone for years will never make sense to me.

Yes, he has flaws. But he’s still an incredible coach.

Zealousideal-Dog9350

18 | 4 hours ago

Yea he really just needs a guy who can keep the players accountable on defense and create buy in. The 2022 and 2023 seasons without mike brown the warriors were very mediocre defensively until they brought in Jerry Stackhouse and now Frank Vogel

If you don’t play defence, you don’t see the floor with Kerr.

It’s Will Richard bruh…

herroyung

41 | 4 hours ago

It was everyone tbh. At one point it felt like Podz had drawn 4 offensive fouls on 4 consecutive plays. Melton picked Luka’s pocket. Will got a steal. But these highlights aside, the Warriors kept grinding away at the lead by forcing the Lakers to waste time and end their possessions with bad shots.

J-Crow11

16 | 4 hours ago

Love the kid. As much as I like Melton and GP2, I’d be curious about what Richard could do with the opportunity of being the main defensive stopper if he got consistent minutes.

He had some insane stretches last year of absolutely ripping people over and over again.

ilikehemipenes

15 | 4 hours ago

I hate when people say Kerr can’t develop young talent. He can’t develop young talent that doesn’t want to be coached, or was drafted by Lacob for the wrong reasons. He’s proven time and time again to get young players to overachieve when they buy into his coaching. He’s gotten players like Ty Jerome and even Quinn cool paid.

Will Richard’s locked up AR. Melton also hit big shots. They definitely outplayed our bench.

I mean let’s be completely honest. Lukas playstyle is complete hero/iso ball. Every single play has to run through him, he almost never plays off ball and when the defence can slow him down, it makes it almost impossible to play a good offence.

xBootstrap | LAL

17 | 4 hours ago

Game went to shit in the 2nd qtr when AR had 6 turnovers and Sexton not making a single shot and by then Warriors had all the momentum. They then blitzed Luka when he returned and did a great job countering it but his teammates missed wide open shots.

KindaAverageCanadian | TOR

-9 | 4 hours ago

Sure they may not have been hitting their shots but at some point the offence had to run plays through someone else. Running the offence through Luka every play was not winning. He scored 21 in the first quarter then only 16 in the rest of the game. Something had to change.

sharoon12

40 | 5 hours ago

Eh, they struggle to stay healthy.

But talent wise if healthy they’re a problem, specifically steph.

the playoffs vs the wolves a few years ago that series got very lopsided when Curry went down.

But due to their health issues they really shouldn’t be overstated either, they’re kind of just a dark horse, if they make the playoffs healthy then yeah they can do damage but if Steph is hurt they’re kind of cooked.

Part of the problem is how much running Steph needs to do to maintain his incredibly high offensive output, and if they tone it down they don’t have another player to really lean on in that way. The running is really rough on Steph’s knee at this age.

Traditional-Use-5676

26 | 4 hours ago

Jimmy was also playing on half a butt cheek, so we basically lost our top two option. He was playing great against houston before he got injured

sharoon12

4 | 3 hours ago

Yeah, hopefully Butler comes back and is effective, that will help but nothing will be able to truly solve how dependent the offense is on Steph’s movement.

Which will make his knees a concern for the rest of his career, and som thing that has to be managed very well the later into the season they get.

Drafting hali or ant would have solved this issue years ago.

Crosshack

3 | 4 hours ago

I guess the hope now for them is that Yaxel can take some of the offensive load since he’s looked so assured (and Butler when he comes back too)

sharoon12

4 | 3 hours ago

The problem kind of is they still have their entire offense built around Steph’s movement, so even with other players playing well within that offense it’s still all generated by Steph running around like a mad man. Which to be clear is still their best way to play the game is just very taxing on Steph’s kneee

I don’t really think there is a solution other than managing Steph the best they can and hope his knees hold up.

Basically having other scorers will help, but the fundamental problem will still exist, and that’s unavoidable they just don’t have another player who they can design an offense around.

yourenotwavy

5 | 4 hours ago

All depends on how Moody and Jimmy look when they’re back from injury and if Yaxel can sharpen his BBIQ and develop further throughout the season which is definitely possible even being an old rookie.

Luka does these things where he ends games in the first quarter or half by himself sometimes. Did it against the Suns game 7, the Wolves game 5, a handful of regular season games…

This is the first time I’ve ever seen literally EVERY SINGLE TEAMMATE of his work their ass off to negate that, and they succeeded.

Everybody sucked. Not one good player on the Lakers tonight. Not even accidentally. Just Luka.

I think we just expect too much from Luka. 16 points from quarter 2-4 isn’t great by Luka’s standard. But then you look at the bench scoring and you see where the problem is. Luka is just too good and you expect him to carry the whole team when the bench scores 7 points…

Speaks to what a shit product the league is more than anything.

Warriors trailed by 25 points in the first half & won by 17. That’s the largest margin of victory by a team trailed by 25 or more in the play-by-play era.
