Honestly the entire country is less healthy than it was that any point in the last like 50 to 100 years… Lots of additives in food, microplastics in the atmosphere and all water, lots of things that cause chronic inflammation.

It’s like they’re in the Black Death back in Medieval Europe or something, where ¹⁄₃ of all people got snapped, but only for basketball players. Shit is infectious, spreading like a plague. Not sure if it’s always been like this, but it feels like every year health becomes a bigger and bigger factor for who ends up on top.

It’s the same as the NFL. Little to no play in preseason and hardly any conditioning in the offseason. When you’re going from 0-100 in such a short time span the body can’t adapt.

If you follow soccer you know this isn’t just a basketball thing. It’s the way modern athletes are run into the ground from a young age and are tasked with longer, harder minutes in game relative to decades past.

A ton of prodigy’s have succumbed to injuries and have had their careers compromised because of his in the soccer world.

Players don’t work on cardio or leg strength in the off-season. Read about how hard the players from the 80’s & 90’s worked out. Those dudes ran for miles every day. The muscle built and strengthened during those workouts lessons the load on joints, tendons and ligaments.

Professional athletes take drugs I don’t think that should be much of a suprise to any of us. Plenty of them wouldn’t even know what stack they’re on. But maybe the guys are dabbling with boutique PEDs to get past any drug testing and it’s just not good gear? Or maybe they’re overdoing the basics? Too much test leads to more soft tissue injury.

You know there’s a lot of “sport medicine” getting these guys back into playing form in half the time it used to take. Maybe there’s a downside to redlining the body and pushing PEDs years on end.

there are players with patellar tendonopathy on every single team. It’s a condition that has to be managed with planned rest and physical therapy. It happens to every player at some point.

Knee hurts a little. Needs to manage it and play through it. Will probably have some extra rest days during the regular season, especially before the All-Star break. Limited or no back-to-backs, probably dependent on opponent.

He has jumpers knee. This is extremely common. This means his knee hurts below the knee cap. Like half of recreational basketball players will get this. I wouldn’t be surprised if some absurd number of professional players get this. The issue is severity. There’s a part of me that feels like this is just a way to give him cover for rest days during the season

I have this and have since high school. It’s basically jumpers knee but it’s usually more painful. It’s chronic too this isn’t something that will go away with rest. I haven’t played basketball in a few years and am mostly fine. But, if I started tomorrow it would immediately come back. Thankfully for him it’s just pain management and I’m sure the NBA teams are quite good at that.

I don’t really think this reputation for him is accurate. He was exceptionally healthy last year but for the first like 7 or 8 years of their careers, Tatum was significantly healthier than Brown and the latter was always a good bet to miss like 20 games and have a lingering knee issue for the playoffs.

JB has had health issues, but nothing too major. In the last few years he’s had meniscus surgery on his right knee, tendonitis in his achilles, torn wrist ligaments. Surprisingly he never takes much time off maybe 5-10 games tops usually. He’s tough because tons of players would take months off whenever they get the opportunity.

Soon-to-be 42-year-old Bron is going to play the most games out of Philly’s starting 5 this season.

being an iron man doesn’t mean that you’re healthy. he’s likely had this for some time and it’s worsened recently. He was training all summer, probably just needs a little while off of his feet.

Honestly his durability hasn’t been terrific at different points in his career. Missed playoffs with wrist surgery which has coincided with a drop in his 3pt%, meniscus a year and a half ago, couple other soft tissue injuries that have popped up. Over the half decade he’s been more likely to miss 15-20 games than not.

He was never an iron man.

He’s not injury-prone, and he doesn’t have many major injuries, but you can generally count on him to miss time to a moderate injury each season and most seasons he’ll also have a 2-4 week stretch where he looks like he’s forgotten how to play basketball and you later find out he was quietly playing through injuries (that one is always fun, because casuals will freak out every time).

Besides the odd injury, he’s got ongoing hamstring issues that will flair up from time-to-time. Stuff like tendonitis or tendinopathy are also pretty common, he’s a hard worker and puts a lot of strain on his body.

Last season was one of his healthier seasons, but my suspicion is that he was playing through injuries to help carry the team in a down year. He had a great season, but he definitely moved a bit weird at times and was very slow to close out.

Tatum, White and Pritchard were the iron men on our team, although we’re waiting to see if post-injury Tatum still has that durability.

Real Associate of Health Science here: it’s a catch all term for knee tendon pathology. In all likelihood it’s minor Tendinitis probably causing some minor irritation and they’re resting him

Its an overuse injury. The good news is it’s caught early and managed aggressively, can be a non-issue. Honestly if he just sat and did nothing for two weeks he’d probably completely heal it.

Yeah tendinopathy is already a bitch to work through as an average person. id imagine this will be something he has to manage until he retires and can give his knees a real break.

They were remarkably healthy last season as a team (until Fox in the playoffs at least) and good start so far this season. Maybe it’s luck maybe they’ve just got more robust fellas

Stretching is not good for Tendon recovery and neither is staying off it!

You need constant Isometric high mechanical tension and progress to heavy eccentrics to align the collagen!

It took me 2-3 years to beat it. I had to do a lot of squatting, technique work, and plenty of stretching and yoga. Warming up helps a bit, but strengthening the surrounding muscles was the way I achieved my fix. It is a bitch though. That shooting/burning pain sucks when you need that explosiveness.

Doesn’t affect mobility much but you can’t run or jump. Cool story

I have this, i did not do PT. But i do weights and stretch a bit. It hurt for 3 years. Car change to automatic transmission. Strong accelerations, hard jumping, max squats hurt like hell and should be avoided. Changed my game to off ball, and more arm pushing. I played with wraps on it to help with the pain.

I had an arthroscope the clean up my knee and shave down the bursa pad to alleviate mine. The surgery did nothing at all and youre right, rest, stretching and strengthening the muscles around the knee are the only thing that calms it down. The worst thing is that it can randomly get reaggravated out of nowhere

Quick Google tells me it’s call ‘Jumpers Knee’ and mild cases take 3 to 4 weeks to recover and severe is up to 9 months.

it can honestly vary a lot. it’s an overuse thing that will probably just require some extra rest for a period of time and shouldn’t linger too long as long as the team manages him well. but estimating a recovery timeline isn’t really possible. some tendinopathy resolves in a few weeks, some can take months or even become a chronic issue if it’s not managed well. i doubt that’s a concern for brown with top tier medical support.

it’s jumpers knee. his knee and shin bone (where they connect specifically) is getting consistent damage from overuse. He’s already had work on the other knee, meniscus, so he’s on the road to losing athleticism in a sharp downturn by 31.

I had something similar, it’s painful as shit but it’s mostly just painful. If he can manage the pain he can play on it. It’s brutal though. I don’t think I could play a sport with it.

It is hard to deal with. It is a degenerative condition that requires rest and specialised exercises along with pain management. The tendon can be strengthened but it can take a lot of time and careful management. Certainly no where near the level of an ACL tear or anything, but you’d rather not have it.
