In a sense, it isn’t. He is probably an extreme example of the injury prevention issues in the NBA.

To get “in shape” he has probably done tonnes of weightlifting and relatively little basketball (and other relevant sports) work that helps develop muscles that aren’t used in the lifting room. Between the added visible muscle mass and lack of “invisible” muscle1 mass in odd places, tendons have to do more work.

Simmons almost certainly ramped up from practicing alone or 5v5 vs average Joe gym pace to NBA pace too. Ramping on too quickly is a big factor in injury.

1 I did a decent amount of weight training while playing basketball, lots of it was free weight to reduce isolation. When I started training Kickboxing I found out there was a slew of muscles I didn’t know existed in my back/shoulder area and that my obliques could be controlled independently of my abs. 5 years later, they no longer are.

Also, the Warriors seem to have an excellent medical staff that do their due diligence and like to be very involved in training and rehab. There may have been red flags with Simmons being away from competitive basketball for a year and training on his own. And we see what happened.

yeah the last thing the warriors needed was another non-scoring “connector” who can’t connect the ball into the net for the life of him. a team starting draymond green is one of the last teams that would make sense for simmons to join.

And at 27, Kadarius Toney is no longer in the league. You see what the NFL really cares about. Toney was a disappointment but it’s surprising he’s not playing on a team today.

He had the ultimate green light in Philly too. Brett Brown publicly challenged him to shoot a 3 every game and he still never did. I think teams would be a lot more open to working with him despite the injury risk if he gave them reason to believe he would be more coachable or willing. None of his public comments ever make me think he’s really ready to make that switch.

i think any coach with a good head and a good medical staff can see it… look at Haliburton, he is not even injury prone, issue is he had 1 year in the sidelines, came back and the hamstring was not ready for his game

Injured players tend to naturally compensate their bodies in other ways, which can tend to lead to other seemingly unrelated injuries.

Also, Ben Simmons sucks and is a fucking diva which is probably moreso the reason Kerr didn’t even bother.
