Just realized Beal is only 33
Anyone else just mind boggled by this fact….I feel like he’s been washed for a minute now how did he even get that 14 million contract.
He’s been 33 for 4 years
He is the Jayson Tatum of 33 year olds
so is Andre Drummond. For the other old heads, Andrew Bynum is currently 39.
Feels like he’s been out of the league for 15 years
It’s been 12 so basically
He’s still the youngest player to play an NBA game
Well he was drafted when he was only 17
Out at 26 is still pretty early with how he used to play when engaged and injury free.
Edited for correct age.
Tough to engage after winning two titles and playing with Kobe and Gasol.
I remember him in our series from our first Finals run and then it feels like he just vanished after that knee injury. Insane that he isn’t 40 yet.
Close to it
Greg Oden is 38
Darko Milicic is 41
I’m 42!
The fact that this one got me even though I literally know him and Lebron are in the same draft class
Insane that Drummond is only 33. Also, was stunned to learn Marcus Smart is only 32!
Damn. Bynum could have been so good.
He was good for a second
I remember him at one point as the best offensive center while Dwight was the best defensive
Back-to-back champ!
To have play for 8 years and been out of the league for over a decade and be multiple years younger then LeBron is CRAZY
Man I wish I could retire at 27
I told you working behind the alley at Wendy’s has limitations.
That blows my mind man. Im older than bynum, but younger than LeBron. Crazy
Oh no, am I an old head now? Not like this
Derek favors is only 35!
At least he still gets dapped up by Dwight.
Kyrie Irving is older than him and is coming off an ACL tear, but is still better than him.
Kyrie is the single most skilled player in nba history. Not even a fair comparison
If NBA history began in 2010 he would easily be in the top 5.
Which it basically does. The David Stern nba of professional basketball era is not coming back. This modern game looks like basketball but doesn’t follow the same rules. How many times did teams come back from 20 points? Now it happens daily. There are no true centers leading their teams it’s all outside volume shots. Kyrie could play in any era though I ain’t mad at him. He should have a finals mvp when he stole the show in game 7.
Yeah, if NBA history started in 2010s
Looney has been 30 going on 45 for the past 5 years….
From playing against Kareem to playing against Wemby. Bro has come a long way.
It’s so funny to watch college tape of him and the entirely unironic comp on him was Durant. His hip surgeries combined with his demeanor made him the oldest young player in the league.
I would give that to Ayton with his face and his ability to move like my grandfather when a hustle play needs to be made
Them are the biggest what ifs to me, not someone like Zion. Idk why
IDK about you, but I will always remember the day Zion Williamson got drafted into the NBA.
It was a stormy day. Literally and figuratively. My best buddy (I was in college then) had just broken up with his girlfriend of five years. He was in tears. Very upset.
But the moment we received news that Zion Williamson was drafred first overall, we knew nothing else mattered. I looked my buddy dead in the eye, held him firmly on the shoulders and told him: bro, nothing else matters anymore. Zion Williamson is the future. He will be an even better Charles Barkley, the Charles Barkley we never saw (by the time we could catch Sir Charles LIVE, his back already gave way).
We put aside everything and went out to get Zion Williamson jerseys. Maybe it means nothing to you, but it’s a huge deal for us. I’m a Lakers fan so I only buy Purple and Gold jerseys. He’s a Raptors fan so he only get those. But that day, we both purchased a jersey of a player of which team we do not root for.
Zion, I know a lot people have already given up on you. IDK whether you will ever read this, but I still believe in you.
His preseason game had me really really hooked up on the few Nola games that had him
It was incredible
Roy Hibbert is 39
You sure you don’t mean 46??
The difference between Beal’s 2012 draft and LeBron’s 2003 draft is the same as Beal’s draft vs Cade Cunningham’s 2021 draft
Beal hasn’t been an NBA player for 5 years
If you are contracted as an NBA player but don’t play, are you an NBA player or a Monstar?
Bro has played less than bronny james
So do we have 1 or 2 Monstars?
They all over the league
Give him a walker with tennis balls on the bottom
I’d say he’s been washed for well over a minute
He got a $14M contract because the Clippers did cap circumvention and agreed ahead of time to give him this money if he took this exact paycut to get out of his Suns deal (that was signed with the Wizards). It is very funny that they did this at the exact same time as they were being investigated for circumvention with Kawhi.
His deal is the same as Gary Trent Jr’s. It is very obvious circumvention.
Beal is essentially on a 1 yr prove it deal. Trent is on a 4 yr $64M extension.
So either you can’t tell the difference or you’re just pulling shit out of your ass. Also Clips are currently $17M under the tax with one of the lowest payrolls in the league.
Edit: holy shit how does that comment have over 50 upvotes? This sub is so dumb lmao
Gary Trent Jr got more money because at the time of his under the table agreement, he was more valuable than Beal was on his. The Gary Trent Jr is more horrible of a contract because of how sharply he declined, but Bradley Beal of 26-27 is a minimum flyer who got more money (again, the EXACT amount he gave up) because the Clippers agreed to pay him this before he signed with them after the buyout with the Suns.
You keep saying exact amount like it’s a slam dunk when you’re factually wrong.
You also insist Beal getting slightly over minimum HAS to mean it’s cap circumvention. It appears you can’t comprehend a team slightly overpaying to get the guy they want. Which is weird, considering you literally gave a guy $20M who was clearly going to play what? 10-15 games at most?
He gave that money back to allow the Suns to use the stretch provision.
Also Trent’s deal is fully guaranteed. Beal can be waived tomorrow and they would only owe him $3mil next year.
Yes, he gave back the money knowing that the Clippers had already agreed to make him whole on what he was giving up.
No, he gave the money back because the Suns agreed to cut him and leave the team on his terms. The Clippers signed him for $11mil straight off the buyout.
Your theory would make sense if he took a vet min like Gary Trent did then received a fully guaranteed deal way over market.
He gave up ~\(11M on his deal and got ~\)14 million guaranteed by the Clippers with the player option so they could sign him to exactly this deal. So what he gave up plus a vet minimum. The Clippers agreed to make him whole in advance. There is no other reason that he would have gotten the contract he just got because he is very obviously not worth it.
His current deal is way over market because his market should be a vet minimum because he hasnt played in a year and when he did he was very, very bad and he is the most replaceable archetype of player in a small score first guard.
No. This was dumb speculation and a bunch of people like you are it up.
For starters, Beal didn’t take this discount when he first signed with us, nor did he give us cap flexibility, whereas GTJ’s signing did. He signed for whatever the remainder of our MLE was after we signed BroLo, with the hopes and understanding of revitalizing his career, competing, AND getting starter minutes. It didn’t turn out that way, but it was a sensible contract and bet.
He then opted out to test FA of his player option, and the money dried up. Once that happened, they gave Beal a 2⁄14 with a 2nd year guarantee of only $3M. It’s effectively an expiring.
Now why would they give him more than minimum? 1) Because there was potential completion with teams like the Heat. And 2) because having short term cap filler when you aren’t a capped out team is good. You WANT filler contracts because that provides more trade flexibility for a team that’s likely going to be a seller.
This wasn’t at all like GTJ, and everyone insisting it are just blatantly misunderstanding the situations. GTJ signed for BELOW market value to get his team cap flexibility, with the understanding he’d get paid more later (which he did). Beal got bought out after teams had already spent their money, so he took what was remaining for LAC, a situation that on paper was perfect for him. We then re-signed him for slightly more after he opted out of his PO, which was advantageous for our trade flexibility.
You are probably right. The fact that his contract is for the exact amount of the money he gave up is probably a total coincidence and they felt like they needed to give above the minimum on a multi-year deal to a guy who played 6 ineffective games last year because if there is one thing the Clippers are currently needing on their roster it is another score-first small guard and as we all know, a Bradley Beal who wasn’t going to be ready for training camp was a priority target above the minimum for a bunch of teams.
It’s not the exact amount, nor does that necessarily matter.
If it was the exact amount, it’s not immediately cap circumvention for him to come to the negotiation table a YEAR later and say: “Hey I gave up X with the Suns. Last year you paid me Y, so I’d ideally like to make up the difference. That’s my number to return.”
But if you want to do the math: Beal gave up \(13.9M in his buyout. He made 5.5M last season, and has another 9.8M guaranteed on this contract. So we’re actually paying him \)15.3M guaranteed or closer to $18M if we do keep him next season. So no, it’s not the exact amount if you think that is super relevant.
Regarding why we kept him? Even if it wasn’t the best move, we’re a development team at this point and he’s seemingly been a good veteran presence for us. If he does come back and play, then he fits a theoretical skillset we’d need. It obviously got more cluttered when we got Strus, but that was an opportunistic move we made decently after.
But again, you’re suggesting cap circumvention when this gave us literally no real benefit or advantage. He signed for what we had and then signed for a marginally more than minimum contract which is better for LAC. Yet you are just parroting a nonsense tweet comparing this to a situation that is drastically different.
We’re paying Beal 6M and then another 3M guarantee to be a veteran presence. The Bucks are paying GTJ a guaranteed $16M for four seasons. If you can’t tell the difference between those, then idk what to tell you. But this is obviously not cap circumvention, and there’s a reason there has been no SERIOUS consideration of that outside of a dumb tweet meant to get engagement and influence dummies.
I don’t even know the tweet you’re talking about but Nate Duncan and John Hollinger pointed this out.
And his guarantee is what he gave up plus a vet minimum for this year! You’re pointing out that the math lines up with exactly what he gave up to get the buyout.
And there is no reason for him to have above a vet minimum because he hasn’t played because of injuries and when he did recently he was bad! Even when he signed this deal he’s on, he wasn’t healthy. He’s a minimum flyer and there’s no reason for a bad team to need a bad above minimum contract because they can just absorb players into cap space if they don’t sign someone like Beal. The reason they did it was because it was agreed to in advance.
PTFO
Seems about right?
Tatum is only 19. Which is why I wish people would cut him some slack
Jacoby Brissett is also only 33
That part seems right tbh
Deangelo Russel is only 30. The NBA is so competitive you can fall off 1 year or less even in your 20s lol
Yaxel is only 33 too
Be 39 by the time Luka is done with him tomorrow
great agent
Nowhere as great as Ben Simmons’.
How old is his son Batmo now?
Saw that Deandre Jordan is still in the league and actually has ok-ish stats. In my mind he retired 5 years ago
Looney is also just 30
The trajectory of his career since he signed his max contract in Washington is quite terrifying.
His agent
You might be surprised Kyrie is only 34 and AD is only 33
Iman Shumpert is only 36 and has been out of the league for 6 years
Steven Adams is also 33
The 2012 draft feels like it was not that long ago… It’s been 14 years wtf
The other day I randomly decided to google Justise Winslow and was shocked that he’s only 30
