Like have yall never played pick up basketball 3 days in a row? Gym 6 days a week is fine. But basketball 2 games in a row leads to Inury? Playing 35 minutes 2 days in a row means injuries but 2 hour gym sessions with an hour of cardio is fine. In college I’d literally play basketball for an hour then go lift weights for an hour. 82 games and back to backs ain’t causing injuries. Im pretty sure these guys play more than an hour for 6 days. It adds significant damage to society for very little benefit, other than that it makes rich people richer.

I think people should be allowed to gamble, but there need to be more regulations and more limitations on gambling ads.

And “should be legally allowed in some form” does not mean “good.” If it magically disappeared overnight, it would be a net benefit to society.

Who is it harming? Putting aside harm to addicts who can’t help themselves, it’s harming the entire integrity of the league (one which has some questionable events in the past already at that).

Being 18 doesn’t mean you can make important decisions that impact your long term future. At 18 your brain isn’t even fully developed.

And gambling on sports just overall reduces the quality and integrity of the fans and game. Sure some people can do it responsibly, but other people become addicted to gambling or simply no longer enjoy the game for what it is and get angry if a player doesn’t deliver on a specific stat. Not to mention players themselves have been caught ruining the integrity of the game in scandals lately.

Your kidding yourself if you think gambling has no impact on society. And even if you don’t agree something can be legal and still have stringent advertising restrictions - for example there is a reason you don’t see cigarette commercials anymore

Despite all of the articles about Polymarket & Kalshi where people talk about election betting and other things that are insider trading, almost all betting on those platforms is on sports. They are completely unregulated and they don’t have to give sports leagues a cut. They do shit like have the Chicago Basketball Team vs the Cleveland Basketball team as their options. If they didn’t bribe the president, this would have been shut down and the companies would have been sued into the ground. As slimy as sportsbooks are, the federal and state governments have the ability to reign them in if they choose to do so.
