I’m assuming they’re avoiding sunday cause football. So saturday night primetime just seemed like the better alternative. Sucks that its on halloween though.

True but I think that only applies to established brands. The WNBA is still trying to grow so they want to be as viewer friendly as possible.

Yeah but that was also the entire nation of Canada vs the most famous baseball team in the world, if the world was ending that game would’ve been on still.

The WNBA not even taking it’s own teams seriously, is such a letdown for all the work put in these last few years by the players, league, media, and fans.

Of course a team is going to try and fight back in the finals.

Morons just want the Dream to look bad so they try to blame it all on them, when it’s simply a matter of not taking the league seriously.

idk i think it’s kinda bs. the dream chose more ticket sales and sacrificed primetime tv for it. really no reason the dream couldn’t host in their own arena

Aren’t they responsible for finding the venue? Why is it the WNBA’s problem to manage where the Dream play if they didn’t want to play in their home arena?

So they could only blame themselves. Tsk tsk tsk. At least clean up the sched

Honestly at the highest level of women’s basketball, we tried and couldn’t make it happen is not a great excuse.

I still don’t understand why the Hawks didn’t just move to the afternoon

They’re in the finals, you’re in game six, you should be the one moving not them

dream play in state farm arena starting next year

Before Caitlin Clark came in all the teams were moving to smaller arenas because they were losing money renting out the NBA arenas. Then the last 3 years attendance has spiked dramatically so they’ve been moving everything back to NBA arenas.

Because everyone tried to reschedule but the WNBA commissioner didn’t want to play a possible game 7 on Nov 3

Its not popular period.

Its a dog shit league that only exists atm because the NBA subsidized it for years

Most wnba games are like at 10% capacity if they’re in a NBA sized arena

Yeah I legit don’t understand why McCamish wasn’t used. It would have made the most sense

You act like you know it was an either/or option

7 minus 1 is 6 fam

Regardless yes it’s ridiculous but the Hawks and Dream don’t have the same owner so what incentive is there to move the game?

No no. Game 7 is in Golden State at Chase Center (Valks do regularly play there unlike the Dream with State Farm arena and sell out frequently). It’s Hawks vs Cavs today blocking it and mainly due to TV contracts

If you watched today’s finals game 6, its not crazy at all.

Well not only did I not know that the wnba finals was going on, I had no idea it was a game 7. I couldnt even tell you if the wnba was in season lol im probably not alone in this either… so with that said, id probably still rather watch the pels vs atl.

They’ve only.been doing 7 game series for 2 years?  And this is the 2nd?

Lmao. Thanks, that really is groundbreaking lol

First time in HISTORY!

I can’t tell if you are legitimately asking this or trying to be sassy.

Valks are all about defense and possessions. This is what teams with worse offensive talent have to do to compete. They’ve been successful 50% of the time.

The games are 8 minutes shorter, and the women are 6 inches shorter (but still playing on 10 ft rims).

Size of ball is slightly smaller too, and 3pt line is closer (about 1.5 feet closer)

wnba wont gain mainstream popularity until they lose the ego and play on 9ft rims. the ball is smaller, the court is smaller, and the games are shorter already. there simply isnt entertainment value in watching less athleticism than in a high school basketball game.

is it 2 of or THE 2 best defensive teams in the league? i love this matchup

NBA teams break 100 with 8:00 left in the 4th (40-minute mark) all the time.

I mean shit it was fun, i was laughing my ass off watching Zandalasini off the bench out shoot tf out of Valkyries starters lmao. Seemed like for the first half, only she could get a bucket and stop the Dream from running a bulldozer over their team lol.

If they were at the highest level they would play in the nba. Women are eligible to join the nba.

Because other women’s sports account for physical differences in men and women. Volleyball the net is lower. In track the hurdles are lower so we experience the same aggressive play we get from the men. Basketball has a 10 foot rim. Only a handful of women can dunk on that height. Lower the hoop so I can see Angel Reece throw down on Caitlin Clark and I’ll watch that shit.

Soccer has the same problem.

The best women’s sport is WMMA imo. It’s highly skilled and entertaining at the top.

They need to a forced coaching program where experienced and proven coaches like Kerr, Pop etc., will coach each team for like a month or so. They need to accelerate the development of the sport fr.

Women’s soccer is electric. Women’s World Cup is must see tv

You must be watching with an extremely critical eye because I watched a couple games and I didn’t see a single turnover or miss that I haven’t seen in a men’s NBA game

It’s more likely they just enjoy hoops. This kind of thinking is so weird

Gentrified way to say shit was straight cheeks (no sexualization intended)

I dunno, I love the W and have been having a ton of fun watching the finals this year but I think it’s pretty reasonable for an NBA fan to find a WNBA finals whose collective shooting percentage is lower than that of the worst shooter in the entire NBA last year unwatchable for reasons unrelated to sexism

I genuinely have nothing against women or women’s sports. Yesterday’s game was bad, its just what it is. It has nothing to do with the fact they were women, seriously. I never seen that level of sloppy play in an NBA finals game 6, in my life.

Game 2 drew 1.33m viewers, the Stanley cup between 2 of the smallest markets drew an average of 5.2m . So no the WNBA’s rating are not even close.

Source?

That was so fucking stupid with how they bungled the planning for Game 6. I’m so happy Cathy is gone in two days so stupid shit doesn’t happen like this doesn’t happen again moving forward.

my office had it up on all the break room tvs and the atlanta stadium was packed. stop being a child

yall so insecure holy shit

officiating has been horrible for both teams but she’s one of the only ones letting it get into her head and affect her game. i’m pulling for her to get FMVP but the frustration has been pouring out. really hope she can be better in game 7

she’s the clear fmvp off the strength for the earlier wins brudda

I mean who else you giving it to??? She’s the only reason they won the first two. Their guards have been awful outside of today

Her first quarter was great, and they held on rest of the game. Don’t disagree she was pretty ass the rest of the game. Too easily frustrated

I genuinely don’t understand how she’s the one thats popular and not Canada. Canada is the one that seems like she could actually get a bucket on will not Reese.

*her whole career

She had like 5 assists in the first half and ended with 15/14/6

Caitlin Clark is popular. The rest of the league just played a finals game at noon on a Thursday.

“white knights”because you are so incapable of viewing women as people that you can’t believe it’s possible that 1. men like womens sports 2. some of the people you’re interacting with are women.

no bitches behavior

why are you speaking like an incel lmao

Some of us can enjoy watching basketball even if there are no penises to be found. I’m sorry that you need them to enjoy a ball game, for whatever reason

Look man, IDK what to tell you. Maybe it’s just my friend group not being that big into sports, but if this game was even at like 3 Eastern, I 100% would be able to get a group together to watch it. At 8PM, no shot because they’re all getting ready to go out for Halloween / go to Halloween parties. I don’t think it’s a hot take to say more people would watch this game if it were at a different time.

Like I said, I’m gonna watch it, or at least follow it on my phone. But it’s absolutely not an ideal time for them to have scheduled it.

That rule is obviously very selectively enforced. Current top post on the subreddit is about an NBA player answering which Harry Potter house he belongs to.

Is that “directly related to current NBA discussion” just because it contains an active player? Then how far does that go? I don’t really know.

The NBA owns 42% of the WNBA, so it is related.

Lmao right? No one posts this style of comment when people post AND1 nostalgia or athletes from other sports dunking basketballs.

It’s certainly not all the time. If F1 is off that week you might see a post or two from another series hit the front page. And that’s still normally when it involves racers that have or may compete in F1. I’m not siding with the complainers but I think you’re misrepresenting the F1 sub.

NBA players play in those game

It’s much more relevant than WNBA crap

Should FIBA and Olympic basketball posts also not be allowed because they’re not NBA? Because they get posted here plenty when those games are happening and nobody complains.

Because they all involve NBA players and it’s directly relevant to the NBA? College basketball definitely isn’t posted here. Euro league games aren’t posted here.

I can’t speak to formula1 because I don’t follow it or know anything about the sub.

Ideology? What? This is basketball not philosophy

I mean, that’s just a different discussion. No other popular subs allow blatant rulebreaking posts:

Rule 2: “Posts and comments should be directly related to current NBA discussion”

Same reason there aren’t posts about college football on r/nfl. Your point would be more applicable to the r/basketball sub, which does exist.

note that it’s r/baseball and not r/mlb and r/nba and not r/basketball

I’m just making fun of how much I hate the college conferences.

Seriously. It’s cringe reading these lame insults, “While you’re attending a kid’s party, because why are you celebrating Halloween as an adult, I’ll be watching basketball because I actually enjoy basketball. Weirdo.” Somehow you’re a loser for celebrating a holiday with friends and seen as childish while being alone watching basketball is seen as some superior tasking WTFlol The people on here are weird.

“No one watches”

Check the franchise valuations, attendance figures, tv ratings etc. like come on dude, you are just making shit up.

It’s someone posting about a basketball game 7 to a subreddit full of basketball fans. Not that deep man idk why you’re so angry

Yo, can you stop talking about the MNBA here? This is supposed to be a WNBA thread. 😂

Did reddit database run out of bits or your screen lose pixels for this post?

They planned for Saturdays in October.

not really, they play World Series games on Halloween all the time. It’s happened 8 times since 2001.

A bunch of drunk Brewers fans on Halloween night in a winner take all World Series game? What could possibly go wrong?

TNF has nothing to do with it tbh. Most football fans wouldn’t have watched it even if TNF wasn’t on.
