He plays defense on both ends of the floor
Pay some respect to the man who shut down an entire league by himself
He literally blocked his own shot at the rim last season against us. Like a dunk, he blocked his fucking own dunk.
Like I don’t even know how to explain it, it was such an odd play that the commentators didn’t even notice and there wasn’t a highlight posted. He went up palming the ball trying to dunk it on the side of the rim from the dunkers spot, Castle I believe was underneath him jumping. As the ball was reaching his apex he brought up his other stoney as hand to.. secure it? to two hand dunk it? I guess? But he was fucking open basically up there.
So that new hand comes to the side of the ball but he fucking clubber langs that shit and smacks it out of the palmed hand. This is all happening right above the rim now, he could have just let it drop into the hoop.
No instead the ball is smashed into the back board which causes it to bounce back and flails off hilariously back into play for our fastbreak. As he’s coming down and lands his head does a full 360 up and around with his head like “wtf just happened”, then the patented hand raising to match.
I could not fucking believe it. I just could not. hahahaahahahahahahah God I wish I could remember which game it was against us, just to see that replay again.
Now that you’ve said this the internet can hopefully collectively find it.
Imma keep looking, but this is too good not to share https://youtube.com/shorts/SoltF0Dekpc
When did he block his own dunk? I can’t remember this lol
He’s the Minnesota Vikings of the Minnesota Timberwolves
true 2 way player
Block that shit out!
Bro you’re on offense….
How is this even possible from close range?
He can’t catch passes cleanly. He fumbles the ball for a bit giving the defense time to recover and contest. Basically feet for hands.
He also doesn’t go up strong for dunks, instead preferring to layup a bunch of stuff. But he also has a very poor layup technique and is easily thrown off by any kind of contest.
So he has a very high chance of missing if he’s not completely wide open, and just like you said that’s over with by the time he’s done fumbling around. Everything just happens way too slow.
In scientific terms: Bruh has brickhands
I remember thinking he was underutilized on offense in utah.
I was so fucking wrong.
There was a lowlight montage on this sub a few days ago. It was painful to watch.
bc the other team big is gonna make contact, except that guy 9⁄10 is younger and stronger than current Rudy, so it’s hard to score.
I can shoot 3 pointers better than I can shoot layups bc I cannot take contact, Rudy is aging and is not gonna be as tough as he was when he was younger.
He just played Draymond Green who’s 6’7 and older than him….
PTSD is a real thing, Rudy tensed up against Draymond.
Draymond playing the long game when he choked Rudy out
Draymond tax
Yes but you’re forgetting the spite factor when it comes to Draymond and European bigs
9⁄10 centers are not stronger than Rudy, he just has brick hands and no coordination
Stop it
Perhaps he needs to shoot from closer to the rim. Oh wait, he already does that.
MF literally airballs dunks/layups 💀
It’s just like me playing 2k.
Makes me wonder how much even better Rudy would have been if the NBA had the FIBA goaltending rule
You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take
in Rudy’s case, he misses 100 percent of the shots he does take
Just wait until he discovers the quantum superposition of a shot between taken and not taken. He’ll be unstoppable on those
Schrodinger’s Gobert
We’re just in the unlucky universe. In other universes he made 100% of the shots, lets not be so harsh on the guy.
Connected on that alley oop better than Lamelo and Rudy
Op missed badly on this one. Like Rudy
Or if you’re Rudy Gobert, 100% of the shots you do take.
Rudy misses 100% of the shots he does take
I don’t understand how someone as big as him who’s played basketball as long as he has still can’t get a bucket to save his life
He’s a career 67% from the field and had 8 years in a row scoring 13+ as a 3rd/4th option.
Obviously not the highest volume and he doesn’t have the prettiest game, but saying he can’t get a bucket to save his life (until this year) is just silly.
I don’t watch really any teams gobert plays on until the playoffs, but he seems a genuine liability on the offensive end during the post season. 0 hands, 0 lob threat, 0 post scoring and can’t finish off the glass at all
He had 27 points in the closet out Lakers game in last year’s playoffs.
If Rudy Golbert had Jaxon Hayes’s lob finishing ability he’d be an all timer
Or if Hayes could play d like Rudy
Hayes with Defense is Javale McGee
He already said all timer
You mean a multiple-time NBA champion? that’s pretty good
It’s the question of, is it easier to teach astronauts how to drill or yeah drillers how to be astronauts.
Genuinely disgusting hoops, how many series have we seen Gobert lose because he can’t be trusted to exploit mismatches?
Yea but did you see that sick fadeaway over Jokic in Game 7 of the 2024 WCSF?
top 10 most unexpectedly hype shot of all time
that shit was the dagger idc if there was like 8 mins left in the game. If rudy hits that shit over you its wraps
He’s completely useless on offense.
He can set a decent screen, I think
He’s an exceptional screener….but it doesn’t really help when he can’t catch a pass, lob, or make a lay up.
pick n roll but don’t roll
New meta incoming
Why do you think Donovan Clingan has learned to shoot the 3?
well illegal ones anyway
He has been pretty invaluable to the functions of the offense for the last few years - While he obviously has poor touch, and can’t create for himself, team offense relies on every player to play a role more than just scoring. He does a lot of the dirty work that doesn’t show up in the box score. He has been a great screener, would rarely over extend beyond his skillset, and was one of the most efficient rollmen as far as points per possession.
You don’t just accidentally end up on top 15 offenses your whole career for 14 years playing 33 minutes a game if you are truly useless on offense.
That being said, he’s been truly and particularly horrible this year, even for his standards lol.
But their defense is non existent without him tough situation
He’ll turn into prime Hakeem mixed with Dirk’s range if we play them. Not even a shot at Joker’s defense. Dude just goes berserk against us.
He overthinks it
He gets into a flow state of vitriol when players my the nuggets so he stops doing that
They posted tons of vids of Rudy catchin crazy lobs all summer and I was super pumped to unlock Rudy’s final form…
But I’ll be damned, his final form appears to be that his hands dispense soap instead of producing sweat now. 🤣
Dude if Rudy could catch lobs he would easily average 15 points a game.
He needs to play with Luka or Trae to get those lobs
If Lamelo couldn’t feed you then no one can
I feel like those 2 guys are the best at lobs, but Rudy just isn’t good enough or doesn’t want to score
Having a non scoring big, especially a starter, is not conducive to winning in this era.
Ritchell Mobinson
Why doesn’t he just dunk it?
Hands
Father time.
Thing is, on the broadcast, they said he has a standing reach of nine feet seven. Surely he can get up a bit
Yeah he should be able to. He also fumbles the pass and then by the time he gathers it (if he does) he has 2-3 defenders on him.
It’s crazy really.
Shaq right now
https://c.tenor.com/hB5IaKJEdbIAAAAd/tenor.gif
Interesting to see how his athletic decline has impacted his offense more than his defense to this point. He averaged 15ppg over a 5-year stretch in Utah and it’s not like they were feeding him.
What’s nuts, he’s more than 10 years in. You’d think if any team hired an extra coach and grabbed practice guys. He could at least practice catching a over the top pass at various angles and speed and either guide it to a layup/dunk or:
Catch.
Keep ball High.
Make one move/pivot and try to score.
It’s just combining 3 basic basketball moves.
I saw that one highlight where Lamelo threw floated a high lob….and Gobert caught it like a rebound, like Gobert didn’t think to re-orient his body to catch while facing the basket.
Can’t catch a bounce pass, can’t catch a pass at waist level, can’t catch a lob…
love watching the wolves but we had wolves fans on this sub saying lamelo is gonna unlock him because he finally has a pg lol
it’s been 5 games. if we’ve learned anything it’s that there’s an adjustment period to playing with Rudy and i have zero doubt LaMelo will figure it out
but hey, maybe 5 games is a good sample size and Mikal is just the worst contract in the league 🤷🏼♂️
won’t disagree that Mikal has been insanely disappointing in the majority of his regular season games so its not the burn you think it is lol
In the past Rudy has been pretty good at catching lobs, but only Mike and KAT threw them to him consistently. So it was very reasonable to be excited for that part of things.
Somehow he can’t even do that anymore.
When he and DLO were beefing I was like I know DLO is not very good but why is everyone on Rudy’s side, dude clearly don’t know how to do anything outside of defense I get where DLO is coming from, and now we got a PG again and see the new guy is also beefing with him too like I don’t know if they just refuse to move on because how much picks they’ve spend on him.
I guess this means he’s going 0-500 for the rest of the year
Perfection
Rudy G0bert
0/9? I assume hes primarily taking baby hooks and close shots off offensive rebounds. Thats wild lol
2 of these are 3 pointers and another is a middy. he’s just not getting shots up
Maybe he should get less shots up.
And Scottie Barnes did this in one game
Players have bad games sometimes…
Yeah. I’m not saying he’s talented offensively, but he does have the second highest fg% all time. People being like this is what Gobert is known for are just off the mark. This is an anomaly for him.
It’s like a taller more expensive Vando
I think he caps a team’s ceiling to conference finals, I don’t think he can be your main starting center and make/win the finals.
Which is not bad at all but if you have championship aspirations it becomes an interesting situation
You can’t honestly expect a professional basketball player -getting paid tens of millions- to be good at shooting a basketball.
He finally hit the cliff looks awful compared to last year
Him and Lamelo are like a dream duo.
He looks insanely stiff this year. Idk if it’s his back already acting up but Rudy is typically very spry for his size even if he’s clumsy with the ball.
