Some of the cutest memories I have of my kids were playing with them on the changing table. You get over the shit aspect right away – except for berry shits. They will fuck you up.

I have three (girl, girl, then boy) all well out of diapers at this point and while it’s a major PITA at the time, it’s just something you do. When our son was born we knew that was it. When he was getting up to potty training age, I knew it was the end of a mini-era. I enjoy my life more now that they’re all in school and somewhat self-sufficient, but I really do miss those days. It’s weird because there’s a direct correlation to how connected you feel to the baby and how much you do for the baby. When it was just me and my baby for the first time it was super tough, but because I was providing everything: prepping bottles, changing diapers, holding him for naps, he was so reliant on me and that made me feel so meaningful, and it made me feel so strongly connected to him for giving me purpose. It’s self reinforcing. If you don’t do those things, then you won’t feel them either.
