I take my mom for granted. We talk everyday but she drives me absolutely insane. She’s an extreme worrier, has no sense of boundaries, and is very smothering. All that being said, I know there’s going to come a day when something happens to her, and it’s going to shatter my world. Today I am going to practice being a better son.

Trust me, do it. Lost mine at 21, and I’d trade everything for a min convo

My very healthy and active mom with a dream retirement plan got cancer 3 weeks after her retirement party and died within 14 months. This happened 1 year ago September. Don’t take her for granted. I miss mine more than anything the world. Like I don’t think you ever get over losing your mom. Time just passes. Call her just because.

My greatest regret in life was assuming we would have so much more time together.

Tell her I said hey.

I don’t mean this in a cheeky way, I’m gonna text mine shortly. I just hope she’s having a great day

After losing my mom, the thing I miss the most is just talking to her about everyday life. I’d do anything to just call her one more time. My mom was one of those who posted a thought or scripture each day on FB. At the time, I thought it was annoying or just a bit much, but now I love to read her thoughts for the day. All that to say, definitely call your mom and cherish all the time you have with her!!

My dad had a heart attack and ended up with brain damage from it. He’s still here, but he’s not all here. He was such a talker and I loved to listen to him. The guy knew so much about politics, history, government, sports, music… I’ll never have a conversation with him like we used to have, burning joints in his car. The only thing that would shut him up was a good, tight band with horns. I miss him.

I also choose this guy’s living mom

Facts

Sometimes I listen to an old voicemail from my mom where she says she’s just calling to check in on me. Just nice to hear her voice again.

call your mother

It’s incredibly healthy to do (although keeping the phone active maybe is a bit much). Talking to a deceased loved one is a great way to process loss/greif. Therapists often tell you to talk to, email, or write letters to lived ones like this.

most people don’t understand something that’s sad doesn’t automatically disqualify it from being beautiful

My mom died 3 years ago and last winter I broke my phone. I didn’t have a backup or messed something up with the settings and lost all my texts with her

I had one of these too and thankfully I exported the message as an audio file that I have saved. Very sorry to hear that you lost yours.

I’m going to request my mom leave me a little message tonight. I’m not going to do well after she’s gone.

Ive heard similar stories, it sucks, sorry. My mom has cancer and ive been recording convos with her. I love hearing her laugh and tell stories.

My Dad passed away a few years ago. I have a single voicemail from him that I listen to from time to time. I have it stored in multiple places just in case.

I haven’t had an home landline for almost a decade at this point but i kept the phones we had because the last message saved to it ia from my Grandfather.

He was riddled with dementia but i got one last voicemail from him wishing me a happy birthday & telling me how proud he was of me.

This happened to me also 😔 my mom didn’t even tell us she let the number go like damn I wanted to save the voice mail

I used to call my dad’s voicemail at work to hear his voice. It’s been 34 years now. I can still pretty much remember his voice.

My dad died in February and his phone service was with US Mobile. I recorded his voice greeting onto my computer, transfered his line to Google Voice since it’s free, then played his voice greeting to be recorded for that line. I told everyone in my family if they ever want to hear my dad’s voice again, call that number.

I’ve still got voicemails from my grandparents that are 7 or 8 years old. I’m sure some people will say a lost voicemail doesn’t replace memories, but there’s a comfort in it. I’m sorry you lost that.

Everytime I drove past my grandma and grandfather’s burial plot I’d do the same thing. Hi everyone’s doing fine etc

I have a wind chime I got from my grandmothers house when she passed away and every single time I hear it chime, I think of her talking to me. I know it’s not but if nothing else, it’s a reminder of her and that’s enough

I got my two previous cats’ ashes, pawprints, a brush in a sealed bag with one of them’s fur. I dont want kids. I treat my cats and dogs like kids. I often go place a hand on, talk to those items when in a bad place.

Something biden said at McCain funeral that has stuck with me. Not trying to be political. I think we can all agree Biden knew about loss. He said he promised that one day the memory of your loved one will bring a smile to your face before it brings a tear to your eyes.

That’s one of the best ways I’ve ever heard it described. Idk if he was quoting someone and don’t care. It has stuck with me since. Ive experienced that with my loved ones, human and animal alike.

it’s so hard to truly remember the details of their voice and stuff like that. don’t be hard on yourself for not being able to keep that on hand. when my grandfather passed away i had a few fever dreams where i could hear him singing plain as day (he had a lovely, distinctive voice), and while i too would pay just about any price to have that experience again, i feel better knowing that i KNOW that memory is locked away in my brain somewhere, and that it will never truly be forgotten, even if i can’t summon it on command anymore.

sending lots of love 🫂

I’m roughly John Wall’s age and I have done the same thing every night for years since my mom passed. I’ve thought about stopping at various milestones but each time, I feel like I’m losing a piece of her, and I can’t let that go.

I completely understand where he’s coming from and totally agree.

I see you too are a rom-communist.

What’s the movie?

Spoiler alert

My wife wants me to watch this movie so bad

well done

I don’t get it personally, but it’s still sad.

that’s tragic :(. just know that the memories are all still there, locked indelibly in your mind, even if you can’t recall them on command. <3

I’m sure Wall has other spending habits that more closely resemble the harp as well

What’s wrong with paying for live music? Musicians need to make money too.

You don’t know for a fact that his mother is not also seated at the table, enjoying dinner and harp…

I missed that one

On the other hand, that harpist is probably very thankful for the income. It’s hard out there for professional musicians these days.

Pretty sure he takes extremely good care of his mom.
