I cannot link the Twitter announcement video from Ernie Johnson himself due to automod, but it’s available there.

I know Chuck revealed this on a podcast around a month ago, but this is Ernie’s formal announcement.

He says we’ll still see him on some segments like his March Madness coverage, but he’s done with Inside after this season.

Ernie gave a few reasons, including his age (70), and wanting to spend more time with his family given his recent heart issues.

He did also shout out his new production company (32 Bowties) that will focus on feel-good sports stories.

Gonna miss Ernie on the Inside desk, but glad we’ll still see him around in sports coverage.

For me that one was less surprising. Chuck has been pretty up front for years that he’s been ready to leave the gig. I will definitely miss the both of them tremendously though - they’re my highlights from Inside.

As a note, the Reddit app has had a glitch as of late where highlights/videos don’t appear if you go to the subreddit while using the app. So, decent chance that OP missed it because of a glitch.

It is. There is a workaround where they show up in multireddits, so you can go to r/NBA+chickensalad and they’ll be visible.

I’m really hoping they try to catch fire with some new talent rather than recycling existing hosts from other shows. I just can’t see Inside (at least how it’s developed over the last 20 years) working in the same way with both of them gone. They’re really important for making Shaq’s role in the show work well, too.

I mean, in my mind this effectively ends the show. Kenny and Shaq can stay on, and they can still call it Inside the NBA, but it’s just gonna be ESPN’s studio basketball show now, and nothing more. After watching Around the Horn end earlier this year, and watching the 25th anniversary show of PTI, it just seems like the remnants of the golden age of televised sports journalism are fading away.

This is the season from hell man. By extension this means Chuck will also be retiring.

I am happy for Ernie that he’s going out on his own terms though, especially learning about his heart issues. He’s had a rough deal of health scares throughout Inside’s run and it’s time that he gets to stay with family and enjoy his golden years.

It’s cool to see that Ernie loved the Good for the Soul segment suggestion so much that he’s looking to carry it on going forward.Honestly checked out of Inside a while back but I always found The Steam Room to be interesting/entertaining.
