I’m choosing to read this sequencing in the most charitable way possible, which is that in the first four games of the season, the FO and coaching staff saw a true contender with elite depth and decided (in a discussion with Ant’s team) that the most important thing was ensuring that Ant’s knee was not going to be a lingering issue so that he could be fully healthy by the playoffs.

Rudy by himself is basically a guaranteed play-in spot minimum due to his ridiculous conditioning and ability to anchor elite regular season defenses almost singlehandedly. And this team has shown that it has no respect for higher seeded teams in the last few playoffs. Just gotta get there and give yourself the best chance.

I know everyone wants answers, especially Timberwolves fans, but HIPAA is a thing for a reason and if he chooses to keep it private that’s his choice.

Also I do believe the imaging changed because a lot of players, especially in football, get minor procedures on their knees, shoulders, etc… over the offseason and keep it private.

Employers are not covered by HIPAA, but they do have to contend with medical disclosure information laws in the ADA and FMLA.

If Ant was iust an average employee, the only people Tim could disclose the info to would be Ant’s direct supervisor and any HR person doing the leave process.

I’m sure some level of disclosure is written into the CBA about medical issues that affect a player’s ability to play that would bypass ADA/FMLA.

What I mean is if Ant and his camp don’t want to have it publicly known it can stay hidden. The team doctors get the results but they are beholden to HIPAA.

Like a player could have an ACL tear get a surgery and all he has to say is out due to right knee surgery. You can’t lie however and say it’s something else and downplay it however you could simply not say anything and just say it was arthroscopic surgery for a knee injury.

You can’t lie and you have to designate the reason and chance of playing but you do not have to actually state the true reason. So you could say Edwards out due to right knee arthroscopic surgery but you don’t have to say Edwards out due to repair of joint cartiledge.

I saw that NBA doctor guy on YouTube talk about this and said that even if it’s a small procedure it can still have long term effects because odds are he will need more of these procedures. And history shows that these do change players and cause more injuries down the line.

The question here is not the level of Ant’s actual treatment, but the level of honesty with fans the team is operating with. The Wolves are not in this to give you honest and clear information, they’re going to release details and make statements they like. I’m not criticizing that, it’s just the reality.

Sutterer is useful for reading between the lines on this and explaining things the Wolves won’t tell us even if those are just a range of possibilities. It’s not that he’s teaching them, he’s a legit resource for us.

Cartilage where the kneecap slides along the end of the femur, for one. I know this because my team gambled our trade exception from the AD deal on Santi Aldama’s recovery from some cleanup done there.

The truth is there are a ton of things inside of a knee that might need cleaning up. It’s a complicated load bearing joint with tons of bones and connective tissue to get screwed up in a way that would warrant ‘cleanup’.

The meniscus can regenerate on its own. Cartilage generally does not, short of microfracture surgery or transplant.

If it is cartilage damage and they have to trim back torn pieces, he’s getting some short-term relief for potentially more longer term issues.
