“We got what we got,” Green said when asked about the eroded state of the Warriors’ center position. “So we got to make it do what it do.”

The Warriors feel part of the reason for their 37-45 failure a season ago was a woe-is-me attitude about the schedule and injury misfortune, team sources said, so they have taken a purposeful no-excuse approach this regular season.

Source: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/50299136/golden-state-warriors-kristaps-porzingis-options-trade

Part of a larger story about Porzingis, but I thought this admission was interesting. It’s understandable given the injuries to Butler and Moody, but still rare to hear a team admit that they collectively had a “woe-is-me” attitude for a season.

Part of the reason might be the uncompetitive depth chart, but that’s just my opinion

randotd152

64 | 10 hours ago

The franchise has been in denial for a long time now. The 2022 run gave them very unrealistic expectations about what they can still do with a post dynasty team as long as they still have Curry.

But they’ve just missed on too many draft picks and generally failed to rebuild on the fly around Steph.

It was a miracle run. Quite the trip if you look at where each player was on draft day 2020.

theinterestof | DET

And the reason for the uncompetitive depth chart was losing two superstars halfway into the season. They were on a 50-win pace when Steph/Jimmy went down.

The problem is he’s still a top 10ish player when he plays.

I’m not sure he’s top 10 anymore, but yeah, he’s still a very good player. He’s just not enough though. The Warriors run was never just Curry though - it was also Klay, and prime Draymond, and Durant, and a great host of role players.

nazario87 | GSW

29 | 9 hours ago

He was top 5-7 by any metric when playing last year.

His problem the last last 3-years has been that the roster has been so dogshit that any team they have faced has gotten away with ignoring everyone else on the team when defending, so he has to make the toughest shots in the league on a regular basis to keep them afloat - and that kind of thing can fluctuate heavily

The logical thing to do was to break up Steph and GSW, let him compete somewhere else while GSW rebuilds. They can’t do that now, they’ve just been stuck in limbo, and will continue to be so until he retires or goes somewhere else. Or they could keep Steph as a real tank commander and completely gut the entire team, but it doesn’t seem like he wants that either.

Rocky-Rocker

The thing is I don’t think Steph wants to compete, he is fine finishing his run in GS.

Spending money & wanting to win is not the problem.

Having basketball decisions run through Joe Lacob and his nepo kids is the problem.

Silent-Wintermelon | GSW

Yeah I won’t say he doesn’t want to spend, but he really thought he could out game the league and develop a second core while Steph was still in his prime. The decisions around that pretty much started whatever we’ve been seeing for the past couple of years

i highly doubt the PLAYERS were woe is me about the injuries. The warriors were fighting to stay .500 for the whole first half of the season until they went on a 7 game run where jimmy was averaging like 26 5 and 8 and the night of the injury they were 26-19 i believe. Curry didnt even play 45 games last season, the fuck did the FO expect?

Not sure why there’s still so much hot air dedicated to the Warriors atp, was the Steph extension not a clear indication that the their plan is to just milk Steph’s twilight years with zero regard for contention? The problem ig is that the org and players themselves still have to maintain this kayfabe of competitiveness when asked about the team’s prospects bc it’s simply taboo in sports to be like “it’s over lol, we’re chilling, please buy some more jerseys.”

The claim here is that the warriors are somehow going to be worse this year compared to last year where Steph and jimmy were out for much of the season and we didn’t have Yaxel. You can say we won’t be good (you’d probably be right) but there is no reason to think we’ll be worse than last year.

Idec as a warriors fan. I got to watch arguably the greatest team of all time make 5 straight nba finals and win 3. I got to watch the greatest shooter of all time scorch the league for over a decade. That 2022 championship was legendary.

Yaxel looks good and I’m fine watching him develop as we get to see Curry play his last few years. Cannot ask for more from a franchise than what the warriors did from 2013 up to this point.
