It’s a flop technical bargain sale
the foul was at the start of the clip btw replay was wrong. they let the play go before stopping for the foul.
Ja actually does it twice at the beginning of the clip lol
It’s true. I was furious til they played it back.
The refs points at Ja when he exaggerates the contact w/ Reaves
Yeah, it’s probably the bump near the rim that got the call. He does exaggerate a bit, but I still think that it’s a bit of a soft call.
I do want them to be strict on flopping though and perhaps it could work if they consistently did this, but I doubt that they will.
No, the literal bump from the screen that Kessler sets on Ja at the very beginning of the clip is what prompted the call.
That ref saw that and knew he was going to call a flopping tech but the rule for a flopping tech is that you can’t call it in the middle of a possession, that’s why it wasn’t called til way later until after a shot went up and the Blazers secured the rebound.
Nope, watch the ref, he calls the tech during the revs bump
You can see when he calls it. No reason to speculate
You think so? I feel like that is even less of a flop than the second one. Yes, he exaggerates a bit, but he also is genuinely surprised by the screen and instantly recovers.
Maybe it was the combination of the two? I have no idea.
This was pretty weak but one got called the other way immediately afterwards. If this is how we stop players from throwing their hands up and selling all contact then it’s fair.
yeah ngl, I’m all for them aggressively calling these early in the season to hopefully send a message to the players
They should aggressively call them all season
Call them heavier until the behavior stops, then you get some leeway unless it becomes an every play occurrence again at which point you call every borderline call again.
Tbh these weren’t the actions I think most fans wanted to see end with a foul. Offense has a much worse flopping issue
I don’t want to see it on either end
Nice to see the nba adopt the epl method of letting the play end before making the call.
Sometimes you flail arms to keep balance tho
It’s better to just not call the foul and let the game continue. This fucked up the flow so bad. If you want to fine players after then so be it. But this wasn’t good for the on court product at all.
It’s setting the tone first at the beginning of the season, and the hope is it’ll change play later
Ew. It’s 100% better to do anything possible to combat flopping.
Yup. And they let the play finish. I actually love it. Get this bullshit out of the league.
It’s not rare for a defensive player to have their hands up to show the refs that they’re not reaching.
Fair but in this case the flop wasn’t on a shot attempt. Reaves shoulder bumped Morant, who then tossed his arms backwards and fell back a few steps.
Did it twice in the sequence
And when they are hit in the chest, arms flair outwards to keep balance. It’s just how the body works
You legitimately thought that wasn’t a flop? Please tell me you guys don’t want this shit in the NBA. The call against Lakers was good also. No you don’t need to flail your arms and go back 5 yards to keep balance from Austin reaves notrious giant bumping you lightly.
You can see the ref calls it on him after Reaves bumps him, but waits until the play is over before calling it. I like it, get this shit out of the game.
I like these flop calls lmao. It happened on the other side just now. If these calls eliminate flopping in the future I’m all for it.
They just called Ziaire Williams for one too. Low key like this
Ziaire was literally just trying to stay balanced after a legit push off, that one was terrible. Even this one was a pretty weak call, but you could at least tell Ja embellished the contact
It makes up for one of the many that go uncalled on Reaves and Luka every game
LMAO they calling it on everyone 🤣
The flop the call is at the 0:05 mark. You can see the official point and then hold a hand up. Looks like this is a delayed call like in hockey. So it doesn’t stop play until the team that got called for the flop get possesion. Not sure if that how its supposed to work but that seems to be the case.
is that the usual rule? let the play finish then call it?
Yes
If stopping the play would interrupt an immediate scoring opportunity or fast break for the offense, the referees will hold off on blowing the whistle.
NBA needs Yellow cards man
PrideNeverDie
71 FTs..
Scott Foster crew about to break this season high at some point
It actually was a flop, it was for a play earlier. You cant stop the possession to make the technical call. Yall are complaining for nothing
All of the flop calls have been obviously correct. I love it.
CALL AN OFFENSIVE FLOP
Reggie Miller has a 53 IQ
That’s really generous
dude they just decided to implement this new thing with 5 minutes to go in the 4th im so confused they’re ruining a phenomenal game
All good. About to be Dame time anyway.
The emphasis on this is gonna be a mess
So what? He did flop
I like these calls ONLY if they call it on the bigger stars too. I find it hard to believe this very play wasn’t done by reeves or Luka this game
ziare got one too. if they keeping it fair then that’s a good call.
:03 - :06 ref makes a signal.
He flopped off of the screen. Then he made contact with Reeves and flopped a second time. Are they basically waiting to call the foul after the possession as to not completely interfere with the flow of the game? I could see a team utilizing intentional flops to stop a play if the defense wasn’t set or something.
Yes.
Great way to handle it to be honest. Let the play finish and then asses flops.
It will seem a lot at first but players will stop doing it so much.
Scott Foster got a Kalshi guy?
Edit: seriously wtf are these calls? If someone shoulders me, I’m gonna fall back a couple of steps if I’m not holding my ground. It’s not like they’re actually trying to sell a call.
Come on lol, he started at one side of the key and ended up at the other. It was absolutely a flop trying to sell the call
They gotta call this shit every time tho otherwise what’s the point
Every time reaves feels contact he flops
Good call a flop. We got one called on us also. This is great. Never thought I would see redditors so passionately defending obvious flops.
Reaves barely bumps and ja flails?? C’mon man. Reaves is 80 pounds.
I want them to call this so consistently that players get suspended for this bullshit
The point is to get players to stop flopping
Yeah the penalty for this is that you are out of defensive position and at a disadvantage . Defensive flops aren’t the problem
The penalty is that it drastically reduces fan interest and people fucking hate it. Start calling this shit all the time. Get it out of the league. So sick of the flailing. And Lakers do it constantly. I’m glad they called it on us.
It shouldn’t even be a hot topic issue. Weird so many redditors want flopping.
Looks like they might be making moves in refland? The next play the lakers got called for the exact same thing. I just saw a replay that they got ingram for the same thing in another game. Maybe trying to cut down on floppin
Are you not watching the game?
Scott Foster is actually a fucking terrorist wtf
It’s a flopaggedon.
His impersonation of Ja was funny though.
The flop is at the beginning of the clip with the contact on Reaves, not at the end of the play
That’s even more egregious. If they waited for the lakers to miss the shot 10 seconds later to call it, they’re gambling.
That’s literally the protocol. Same as advantage in football
That’s just the rule. They wait for the possession to end. They did the same thing with Ziaire Williams on the other end. Is that gambling too?
Didn’t see the first one. Dumb rule that won’t make it to next season as constructed.
That’s how the rule works lol.
That’s the rule… stop saying everything you don’t like is because of gambling.
Yeah, they do that purposely to not mess with the flow of the game. Portland still got the ball back after the free throw
Thats how the rule works, they let the offense continue playing for advantage. They literally called the same call next play on Z Will on the Lakers. Same wait period.
They waited for Portland to have the ball, because Portland should be the team getting punished for it
Foster didn’t even make the call…
It’s his aura affecting other refs
The video is misleading because the replay doesn’t show the flop. Watch the beginning of the clip and you will see pretty obvious flopping
this is a correct call
You’re coping hard if you didn’t think that was a flop, no grown man reacts like that with such little contact from Reaves
It’s just not the most egregious flop that we commonly see that doesn’t get fined.
Like Brandon Williams last night of the warriors flopped so outrageously last night against the nuggets but didn’t get flop called on him like this
If foster was there Williams might be dead
Those 3 flop calls are good calls tho.
The 3 flops are good calls
Fucking unreal ref. Should go wwe
I knew this game gonna be unwatchable as soon as I saw his face
