Really thought he’s going to jump and use his bare hands instead.
I was really disappointed when he grabbed the mop lol
Not my Mopst Valuable Player that’s fo sho
I mean, I love Steve Nash but not sure he could either, indeed… 😂
Ref wanted him to jump and headbutt it out
Obi Toppin vertical is needed here
And he’s done it twice!
I’ve seen NBA players do traditional vertical jumps, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen them jump to get as high on the backboard as they can. I wonder if Wemby can get up that high
theres a video of him touching as high on the backboard as he can. Think he manages about 6 inches from the top or something similar. Although its only one video so theres a chance he can do a bit higher
Hes got a 32 inch vert i believe which is crazy for someone his size. But in comparision someone like obi toppin has 12 inches more vert but also around 12 inches less standing reach. So it balances out pretty much
Urban legend goes that Wilt used to grab money off the top of backboard as bets
Every person above 6’1 deals with this at work
Have you ever had a little old lady ask you to get something from the top shelf at the grocery store? It really puts a skip in your step
I’m 5’11 and that happened one time lmao.
I am barely 5’9 and this has happened to me twice. To be fair the old ladies that asked me to do this barely cracked five feet tall (if that). That said, Both are probably top ten moments in my life.
5’7” they saw me climb to reach in the back for dry cat food and asked if i could grab one for them
it sucks that the culture of “don’t need no men” has permeated society. men aren’t just willing to help people, they practically need it. we have it in our biology to have strong desires to help and it makes us feel good. it should be way more common and not a top ten life experience that someone once asked us for help.
I’m 5’10” on a good day, and the one time I got asked I felt like Thor.
I’m right there w you and I’ve been called tall before. Really revs the engines regardless of how contextually dependent it is.
Oh man but it must have been so embarrassing when you had to look for somebody tall to help you.
As a man over six feet tall, I’ve generally been happy to do that for anyone who asks, but for some reason when I lived in Hollywood, FL and went to the Publix near my house I had old ladies asking me to grab stuff off high shelves constantly and it kinda got annoying. I never said no, because I’m not a jerk, but there were times when I went in for three or four items and got asked to reach for as many items for other people as I was buying for myself.
I had the same one time, then someone asked if I worked there and it clicked that the clothes I was wearing were only slightly different to the stores uniform (I can’t remember what it was but it was like chinos and t-shirt vs. dress pants and polo in the same colour).
Could be worse. You could leave a formal event wearing a nice shirt and slacks, and drunk people could mistake you for a bouncer at all of 5’7 and a twig like build - and want to instigate a fight with you.
All because bouncers wear buttondown shirts and slacks.
Two times. Last time was a disabled lady and she wanted something that wasn’t very high, which was a little disappointing. Felt like it was beneath me.
An old lady just asked me to get a jacket off the top rack at the Costco the other day!
It did in fact make me quite happy.
I once had someone ask in a way that was so apologetic that it made me feel bad. It was like they’d asked me for money or something. It made me realise how asking someone to inconvenience themselves even in the smallest way can be nearly impossible for some people.
Now I just offer if I see someone looking or if I’m feeling proactive I’ll just throw random crap from the top shelves at people.
That’s me with asking. Stupid moral compass in my head makes me feel terrible if I deny help to anyone, and terrible if I ask anyone else to help with something “I should be able to deal with myself”.
(Brain usually puts able to deal with somewhere ridiculous between rocket surgery, brain science and cure for all that ails the planet with no side effects).
Hopefully you’ve seen all the responses from people saying how nice it is to feel useful and for someone to be appreciative. I honestly can’t think of a time where my day would have been better if I didn’t do the small gesture. At worst it’s neutral but most of the time it somehow feels like you’ve done your civic duty.
I’m 5’1” and have helped reach something twice lol The last time was an old lady who was using her cane to pull protein drink 4-packs down from a shelf above her head. I think she just didn’t see anybody around to help…I spotted her when doing the end-of-the-aisle traffic check. Thankfully nothing happened before I got to her and I could reach what she wanted.
At least weekly, my wife asks me if she can “borrow my tall”. I’m just under 6 feet.
The best wife.
It’s the only reason I know what a sconce is.
It’s the giant’s code
Ikr. I’m 6’6 240 pounds all muscle and i deal with this daily. No lie
lmao why is this downvoted
Redditors incapable of telling something is a joke without the /s
Jokes are supposed to be funny.
I’m a generous 5’8, haha, and co-workers have had to ask me to grab things from upper shelves a handful of times. It’s an empowering feeling.
Making Sabonis, who is 6’11 240, look that small is hilarious
It must feel so weird for him to be looking that far up at somebody. He’s probably not has to do that since he was a child.
Ehh, not quite as stark but he experiences it to a lesser degree every time he hangs out with his dad
How could I forget the GOAT that got away? So true!
These other dudes though, has to be a weird feeling
“Not my vydas. Not your vydas. But Arvydas”
Jesus Christ I was like, what guard is that joking with Wemby?
Camera angle didnt help lol
I remember seeing Sabonis in person at eurobasket four years ago and was just impressed by how massive he looked. Can’t image seeing Wemby live.
Wonder what Sabinonis is saying:
“Yeh, ref called me too but I said, nah, Wemby is closer to you. Besides it’s Spurs fault so I let you do it”
Modern day slavery
Dennis Schroeder was right
Another riot is going to break out in Paris over these working conditions
Vive la révolution!
Didn’t even give him a hard hat or safety shoes 🤦
I love this subreddit lmao
He actually said “Hey Wemby help me out” I’m dead, and then I was laughing even harder when I saw them hand him the fucking broom.
I guess it really is the quickest and most efficient way to get the ball back down all things considered.
For real, the video of the ref trying for a few mins while wemby is watching would’ve been legendary tho
Don’t think it was the ref, but the equipment guy.
This was what I thought too, the only person close enough to the mic would be the one with the mop.
The mic’s catching “Ay Wemby, help me out” was genuinely hilarious
You watched the video too?
Some playoff team needs to play that if he is underperforming
it’s like the sequel to chris paul tellin wemby to get the ball from edey
One of the best moments of that season for me.
Thought he was just gonna reach for it
This happens every year, I can’t believe they haven’t just gotten a longer pole.
Why bother when Wemby is right there?
Why doesn’t every team just get a Wemby to retrieve basketballs and do other things? Are they stupid?
I mean, I’ll take a wemby
They’re giving out Wembys? 2 please.
76ers signed Tacko Fall for this purpose
Yeah it was crazy last year when they had to postpone a game for a few hours while waiting for Wemby to fly in
To be fair you’ve got at least 2 people around 7 foot standing nearby every time what’s the point
Nah man, always gotta be a tall guy with a pole
Sabonis looks like if Robert Pattinson did method acting for a basketball movie
Somebody get these clippers out of here!
Idk why this is so funny to me yet so accurate
This works even better with Wemby standing next to him. Makes it look like Pattinson is standing next to some tall actor they hired to be a basketball player
Not the worst idea to get the ball
“Somebody get the stick” - Dr. Evil
Amazing call back
The crowd loved it too
Victor Marjanovic
I thought he was gonna use his Extensomatic™ arms
Obi Toppin did this without a broom!
Not me assuming he was just gonna reach up and pluck it out of there with his hands
Anyone’s else read the title and thought wemby was gonna jump up there and get it ?
Short ass had to use a broom. SMH
He’s a bust, doesn’t even jump. His max vert must be 2”
I don’t think Wemby really has to jump ever
Hurdles of a sufficient height, the Wemby stopper
Sabonis gives gigantic Robert Pattinson vibes sometimes
If you ever get close with a tall person, they will share with you the silent burden
I legit thought he was going to climb and grab it
This is my favorite play in basketball
This was one of Bobans jobs when he played for the mavs
tbh he should be credited with a rebound for that
Pshh obi toppin would’ve jumped up there
I really thought he was going to jump for it given the title
Do yall remember when Obi Toppin legitimately just jumped up and unstuck a ball that was jammed up there like that? I think about it whenever this happens, and it blows my mind every time
