By Definition he actually does not deserve the Supermax to be eligible. He would have to have not missed so much time with injuries. The players agreed to this in their collective bargaining negotiations. He deserves the maximum allowed which won’t be a super Max.

Supermax counts against cap like any other contract. Where it gives flexibility is just allowing the retaining team to offer more than anyone else. It was supposed to be a way for teams to retain super stars, giving them a way to offer way more money as a player incentive.

It definitely also limits the team though because it counts against cap still and overall, it doesn’t feel like the smoothest rule. Like, in the case of Dame, it both didn’t keep him in Portland and after the trade and injury has  basically cratered the Buck’s finances for years.

Plenty of fans and journalists have floated the idea that it shouldn’t, at least at a certain level, but NBA hasn’t changed it (yet).

Runners knee is generally a vague term for IT band syndrome and usually treatable with just general pt, I wouldn’t expect it to require surgery, a lot of graston though and it hurts a lot.

Unsure what the surgery would be. Hopefully it’s minimal.
