I’ve driven all over the USA extensively (drove coast to coast 5 times) from PA originally, lived in Philly for 10 years, Maine for a year, go to Vermont a ton, lived in Utah, Oregon, now live in Seattle for the past 7-8 years.

CRVs have 41.3” of driver legroom which is really good for a compact SUV and only falls 2-3” short of most full sized trucks. You also have to remember while your boyfriend may drive a CRV with no issues, good luck having a full sized adult sit behind him.
Also take into consideration that everyone is built differently. Some people are 6’7 with very long legs and short torsos and others may have short legs with a long torso. I’m 6’3 with long legs so while I don’t stress about the height of a vehicles headliner, I do have to consider legroom and legroom for my daughter who sits behind me.
