Yea, he would’ve been awfully close to a triple double in that Pacers game if he’d been able to play the second half. His passing and playmaking has stood out even more so far this season, and is helped along by his teammates finishing their shots at a higher clip than they did last season.

dunn_for | BOS

18 | 6 hours ago

A good chunk of the organization is sort of new, so I feel like we can let them breathe.

The OWNERSHIP definitely doesn’t deserve another generational prospect bailing them out of poor management/malpractice, a general disinterest in basketball, and leveraging owning a major sports franchise so that they can try to do real estate and resort nonsense unrelated to the Mavs.

Dundalis | DAL

5 | 4 hours ago

I would have said the same thing before the Nico firing, but the money they spent getting the current group in, paying out Kidd 40 million so Masai could have the coach he wanted says they are actually starting to take interest. Did not have to go to those lengths otherwise, and most uninterested ownership groups would not have bothered.

I think we could say the same thing about the entire existence of the Thunder organization.

I’m talking about their shitty ownership group. They screwed Seattle out of a team then one of their owners crashed his car into a wall to avoid jail.

I mean 99% of the current org was not even there for the Luka trade. Everyone is new. The owner is obviously there, but he’s also responsible for clearing out the org and putting the current people in place.

Grabbed hold of the game when it mattered most and executed extremely well. Made the big buckets when he absolutely needed to. Ran the offense well the whole game even when gassed. What more can you ask of a 19 year old? If he doesn’t somehow make All-Star this year I will be scratching my head.

JetSky81 [OP]

2 | 6 hours ago

Hum not really, I love Flagg but with our assets contention is so far away.

Mavs with Luka were finals team. Hopefully we get some luck with trades and young players.

gsx1920

13 | 6 hours ago

Ehhh long term I’m going with it Superior athlete that’s significantly younger with Superstar potential as well

JetSky81 [OP]

1 | 6 hours ago

True I don’t believe Coop will be worse than Luka, and he is younger so def more value. But thing is Mavs were a final team before trade.

FatHead47

0 | 5 hours ago

You’re talking about superstar potential vs an actual superstar. The Mavs had a contending team already, now they’re gonna have to build back up over the course of years just to hopefully get back to where they were before. Cooper could end up being the greatest of all time, or he could be all NBA third team.

gsx1920

6 | 5 hours ago

I wouldn’t just call it potential it’s looking more likely than not tbh

big_hand_dan

We had just as little to work with building around Luka. A 2 way super star is easier to win with than a 1 way super star

armandocalvinisius | DAL

1 | 6 hours ago

assets gets you nowhere. ask orlando, ask miami, ask hawks, ask hornets, ask pelicans. check rest of the roster in the west. everyone have their own problems

franchise player done, 2nd option done, guys loves playing in trenches done, defense done, heart over talent done, offense? needs help

we are just 2 guys away that should be available at deadline. it’s up to masai to play this card

Afraid-Department-35 | DAL

1 | 5 hours ago

Assets absolutely get you somewhere if you don’t have a brain dead scout, which Masai and Schmidt is not. OKC, Spurs and even the Knicks built their team by trading or drafting from the assets they had.

And we also only have a temporary second option. Kyrie is 34, history tells us he won’t be as productive in about 3 years, so we need to get someone in Coops timeline within that time. It could be someone already on the team or it could not.

armandocalvinisius | DAL

1 | 5 hours ago

Spurs lucky top 4 3 straight draft something wont happen again. Okc lucky getting shai for a haul (no one expect him this good), jdub chet lottery, something that mavs cant get too

Knicks franchise player is came via FA on bargain contract and achieve beyond expectation, something mavs cant do now. They trade haul for their wings, something mavs havent done, maybe later down the road

Then win now, there’s some guys that available at deadline that complete the roster without burning assets much. Its already sealed that the only way mavs can get 2nd option is via having their gobert/bridges trade. For now, just trade 1 FRP or buying distressed assets that fit. It wont matter much in 2-3 years

Again : timeline is overrated, windows always the right word. We have good windows NOW

Dundalis | DAL

1 | 4 hours ago

The big difference is we have an established, proven front office now. Def did not have that under Nico, and arguably not under Donnie Nelson either when Mark Cuban was the de facto GM. There would be a lot more trust in Masai’s ability to build that team around Coop than the previous two doing so around Luka.
