Cooper Flagg tonight in the win vs the Heat: 29/6/11 with 5 steals and 2 blocks
12⁄23 from the field
2⁄8 from 3
3⁄3 from the FT line
5 TOs
The year 2 jump is jumping. I think he makes all nba this year
Dallas got a stud
The basketball gods really gave them a second chance after the Luka trade
Cooper definitely projects as a future top 5 player and MVP candidate as well so they got a full redo
“Fortune favors the brave.” - Nico “The Man Best Known for Drafting Cooper Flagg” Harrison
Shout out to Adam Silver the basketball gods, really had our backs on this one
Basketball god = Adam Silver
And potential 1st Team All Defender
Lets be honest Silver promised them Flagg if they gave Luka to the Lakers
Anyone who thinks otherwise is naive and I wish i was as optimistic as them
If you’re not just trolling, it doesn’t take too long to look into the actual lottery process and figure out how unlikely that is. Not to mention the fact that it took a Kyrie Irving ACL injury for Dallas to even be in the lottery.
Unless you literally think Silver orchestrated Kyries injury. I’d be curious how Silver would have handed us Flagg if we made the playoffs.
Nah dude, the NBA totally made the Mavs fake Kyrie’s injury and then had them win a play in game and then force them to lose the next one!
Anyone who actually pushes the fixed conspiracy isn’t even worth acknowledging lol.
lol why would the 30 other nba owners allow Flagg to be given away like that
Yeah but can he play defense?
I wouldn’t call billionaires gods, but the point stands
Traded luka and got back white lebron
see you in finals
This might be taboo to say but he reminds me of a young LeBron.
The block on the Wiggins three and then following up with a clutch drive bucket to seal the win is Bronesque
That play looked like Jordan against the Lakers in the 91 finals switching hands mid-air to me, but yeah Coopers game is super similar to LeBron
why is that taboo to say? they were calling Ant Edwards Jordans long lost son lol
He was easily the most well-rounded prospect since LeBron coming into the league. You can argue others were better overall, but he had legitimately no weaknesses to his game.
Different skillset, but he’s learning the game so quickly it’s hard to believe
could you literally ask for anything more from a 19 year old?
Not nearly as athletic as young lebron but its close
LeBron didn’t have nearly the scoring touch though. Midrange and floaters and free throws, Coop is just as far ahead on that stuff as LeBron was ahead in athleticism
Feels like the energy around Flagg is way quieter though. It’ll be interesting to see how he does when the spotlight is on him. LeBron did LeBron things with all eyes on him and his own team literally rooting against him. He was clearly the greatest young player of his generation from day 1 and Flagg unfortunately has to deal with wemby as the obvious contender for that spot
Coop was the youngest to ever win POY in college when he should have been in highschool. He took Duke to the final 4. He was deemed a generational number 1 pick on a team that just dumped Luka. He has never once responded negatively to pressure at any point. If it feels like his career has been quieter it will probably always be quieter than a guy they called King in highschool. But quite or loud doesn’t really matter compared to production and results which is the next goal.
Saying “not nearly” and “it’s close” in the same sentence in reference to the same thing is crazy work
Close as players, not close in athleticism.
not having reading comprehension skills then calling what you don’t understand crazy work is dumb as shit
November 16th.
Cooper’s feel for the game and ability to slow things down even in tight moments, when A LOT of top-tier all-star players can and would often rush things, is incredible. How does a 19 year old have this much poise and control over a game? His passing work in this game was also very tight and he was running that offense like a PG for most of the game. He got tired in the third but that didn’t matter because he dialed it up in the fourth, hit a huge three off the pass near the end and then ran down the center for the game clinching layup.
He is ridiculous.
Look, I gotta admit that after the Luka trade I’m a bit skittish when I see all these Celtics flairs praising Flagg. Feels like you guys got your measuring tapes out. Please fuck off, at least for the first two chips.
Well, he’s from my home state, sorry for rooting for a hometown boy? He’s been a known entity here well before he was on most NBA fans radars. Beyond that, I like watching good basketball, and Cooper delivers good basketball. Shrug.
Just an FYI, I was joking around. I guess a /s or j/k would’ve helped.
Maybe that one GM in the survey who picked Cooper as the one player they’d choose to build a team around was on to something.
There’s definitely two GMs. Remember that they had to pick a player that isn’t part of their own organization, so the Mavs GM had to pick somebody else. But I don’t think he would REALLY pick somebody else besides Flagg.
I took him #5 overall in my fantasy basketball dynasty startup
I think he might legitimately be the biggest rival to Wemby over the next decade
Nobody is as insane a physical anomaly as Wemby but Flagg’s game is absurdly well rounded already
NBA Reddit laughed at Brian Windhorst when he said this btw
Anyone paying attention has known he’s a generational prospect. A lot of people not plugged in though
Dirk Duncan rivalry all over again. I’m so here for it
He’s the more polished of the two already. I see an MVP candidate by Year 3, just like Wemby
That’s what I was just about to say. Think Wembys development has been pretty bad honestly. Hopefully it’s just a case of a hard skillset to master and he comes out better but eh. Coop looks legit
Feels like Wemby still isnt sure what kind of player he wants to be.
I think he was bit coddled too. Great organization, missing time in second year, no expectation in his first years.
Meanwhile Cooper was thrown into hell. Luka trade, AD situation, front office mess, Kidd playing him on PG etc.
Kidd playing him at PG helped his development, even Flagg himself has said this publicly
I think part of the problem is I expect these guys to be finished products at 23. I can get the frustration since he’s kinda been the same offensively for a couple years with no big improvement, but I think he’ll get there. Honestly kinda reminds me of young Dirk. He didn’t wanna be physical on the offensive end early in his career, but he figured it out later.
Definitely. I hope I don’t sound like I’m doubting Wemby. Dude just got unanimous dpoy and a finals appearance. He’s amazing. I just think the player he will end up being will take a lot of development. I expect he’ll even take another leap this year. It’s just I figured him and the team would better utilize him by now.
Because they want Wemby to be KD offensively for some reason
This year
This might sound crazy, but is he a more skilled offensive player than Wemby? We’re talking pure skill.
Yes. Wemby might get more easy baskets due to his position and size. But Coop is easily more skilled offensively, especially if we include playmaking.
Not really crazy, Flagg has actual guard skills, Wemby not really, just better than most 7 footers.
Uhh yeah I’d say slightly more than any of those other 7’6” aliens
oh true. I like this idea
Flagg is way more poise and a better decision maker than Wemby. Once we get a good team around him, it’s over for the Spurs.
hes gonna be the new kd while wemby is the new lebron
Cooper Flagg changed my life as a Mavs fan
It was always so obvious how good he was gonna be, I can’t believe this dude is on my team thank you Mr. Silver
the stats are nice and all but jesus he had a massive impact on the game on both sides. Hes so good defensively too, he has playmaking, ball handling, that turn around middey has been automatic.
hes so so good
He’s probably better defensively than offensively at this point. His defensive playmaking has been ridiculous. There’s still a lot of areas he can and will improve on offense even though hes been good.
He’s a generational 2 way player
Shoutout Adam Silver ty
Don’t forget Nico Harrison
Without him you guys will still be stuck with an overweight one-way player
Nah Luka and Kyrie could’ve theoretically been shut down earlier during that season that the Mavericks still end up with the #1 pick anyway.
Flagg-Luka-Kyrie was within the realm of possibility.
Nope. Adam Silver would have never gifted Cooper to Dallas if Luka was still there
He would have gifted us nothing if Kyrie didn’t do his ACL. Unless the conspiracy theorists also think that causing Kyrie’s ACL injury was part of the scheme.
They won’t be that bad to get the top pick. Mavs never moved up in the lottery.
League better hope he never gets a consistent 3 ball lmao
Insane game
Oh, good that his shoulder is ok
What’s the possibility of Coop and Luka teaming up
when luka goes back to dallas before retiring and they inevitably win a championship together and it becomes a full circle
Luka’s not the type to jump around teams. And I hope Mavs won’t make the same mistake trading Coop.
I wouldn’t call it jumping around teams though, as he went to LA entirely against his will and has roots in Dallas. I don’t see it, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if it happened if the Lakers fall apart, because he has roots in Dallas and 99% of the people responsible are gone. Owner still there, but he can obviously plead ignorance to basketball in general (which IMO is true, he knows SFA about the game).
I highly doubt Flagg is a big LA guy considering where he’s from. So I’d say 0
Good news is Luka is not an LA guy
According to everyone except Luka huh?
He would say that about anywhere. He’s media trained
He has ascended….at 19yo. Genuinely believe he can average 27+ this season.
Damn almost had a 5x5
I remember all the haters saying he wouldn’t have gone first in this years draft… dude is going to be an all timer
lmaooo I’m so high I thought that said 7 stocks
Better all around player than Luka already. In 5 years he will have a championship or two
Mavs still need to build the team around him, but he’s a franchise player for a championship roster
what are we doing here guys
Riding the sentiment of the thread for easy, life changing karma. It is reddit after all….
Considering both sides of the court
something like a drug addict would say
starting this year
Imagine what you’d be saying if Luka didn’t have the single best performance of any player this season so far yesterday!
He played great on offense… he doesn’t play defense though which is what makes Cooper better. He also complains about every single call which is annoying to watch.
Flagg is a great player and maybe he’ll be better than Luka someday but this is a fucking insane comment. The gap between Luka’s offense and Flagg’s is massive and far bigger than the gap between Flagg’s defense and Luka’s. Luka was solid on defense last year and he’s been solid so far this year.
Thinking Cooper Flagg has the potential to be better than Luka is fine, thinking Cooper Flagg right now is better than Luka right now is kind of Nico Harris level dumbassery
Agree about the complaining but the “he doesn’t play defense” argument is not true, at least not anymore. He played solid defence last year and was even nominated for defensive player of the month in the West back in March. His defence is better than guys like Jokic and Brunson yet nobody criticizes them the way Luka gets criticized. He’s also the primary driver of the offence unlike Flagg. Anyone who is the driver of the team’s offence will have less energy to give on the other end of the court.
Lol heck he played defense yesterday. One of the reasons why we won vs the Jazz. Just look at the 1st quarter, that’s what happens if he doesn’t play defense.
“he played great on offense” is pretty obvious from the box score but you’d have to actually watch a game to know about his defense.
The team misses things that Luka brought though. Team setting and playmaking combination, also ability to just consistently demolish half court defenses with PnR passing/scoring. Coop isn’t really that player. Someone will need to replace that eventually (hopefully De Larrea).
