LeBron on how the team can fix their rebounding problems: “In the great words of Taurean Prince… the ball goes up into the air, and then you go grab the ball.”
GREAT WORDS OF TAUREAN PRINCE
I am suddenly a Taurean Prince fan
Lebron James loves TP, just like Darvin Ham loves TP. Therefore, Lebron James loves Darvin Ham. That’s why Michael Jordan is my GOAT.
The flashbacks of Darvin Ham’s obssesion with Taurean Prince just hit me like a fever dream
I wish anyone loved me the way Darvin Ham loved giving Tauren Prince and Cam Reddish minutes.
But who am I supposed to love, and who loves me? Is this a goes around, comes around situation, or is it just “pay it forward”?
I’m just here for TP
Or maybe, Lebron loves TP, Darvin Ham loves TP. Therefore, Lebron and Ham fought over TP, therefore Lebron hates Ham.
You mean baby Jordan
Now I want a ham sandwich
Current Pistons legend
The “who he play for” segment has it burned into my memory that he plays for the Pistons right now, in 2026.
I don’t hate the signing at all, just not sure he’ll see any playing time whatsoever.
only reason I remember he’s on our team
All-time Hawks Legend

LeKing quoting The Prince
Only a true goat could drop this type of wisdom
Pretty sure Steven Adams described his strategy as roughly “I see the ball then I go grab it, mate”
Charles Barkley said it the best: “I always laugh when people ask me about rebounding techniques. I’ve got a technique. It’s called just go get the damn ball.”
It’s true IMO. You can’t do all the calculations you want when a shot goes up but if there’s a maniac out there like Charles Barkley you’re probably not going to get the ball.
In high school I played with a dude who was 5-11 but grabbed like 15 boards a game simply because he outworked everyone. He also had an amazing up and under move that worked on bigger defenders lol
As a freshman I made varsity because in the words of my coach ‘you’re like a damned rat, you’re willing to get down and dirty and you’ll scrap for everything’. I only played when we needed defense, rebounding and effort because I sure as shit wasn’t getting bottom of net
I was called Slight Howard (and other names) because of my rebounding in HS lol
“It’s not Syria mate”
Write that down!!!
Scrib doon!
Please let an NBA player drop a “Scrib Doon” this season. You know these dudes are playing video games as a break during the season.
Or a ding dong pookie, ding dong.
Taurean Prince is the goat?
That clip of him is for sure.

Dad, that reporter was such a dick
It was the perfect response for how dickish that reporter sounded
And it’s worth mentioning that Yale was #2 in the entire country in rebounding percentage that year. That’s out of 351 teams. They also outrebounded Duke the following game, even though they lost.
Exactly, didn’t get mad or offended, just made the reporter look like a dumbass in a funny way.
Lmao, dude sound entitled as fuck. I don’t get how these reporters get such a big ego. The media is important for the dissemination of information, but I feel some of them hide behind that to be dicks.
Dad!
Calling it now, journalists today will sound exactly like that journalist from 10 years ago if Angel Reese is ever out-rebounded in a game. I hope she responds in a similar manner for this hypothetical.
can’t believe he actually remembers this press conference.
I saw it almost immediately after yale upset baylor in 2016. I actually picked that game correctly on my march madness bracket. still very legendary.
I mean it’s a decently sized meme in the basketball community
Wherever TP goes, someone in the locker room is going to remember that quote, and ensure that everyone in the locker room knows about it.
It’s truly such a great quote lol. And his deadpan delivery was perfect
Yeah, it was only ten years ago and was a hilarious clip all over sports TV and the internet. You’d have to be pretty tuned out to not know about it.
I watch a lot of nba basketball and I’ve been posting on r/nba for more than 10 years and have never heard this before. Admittedly, I do not pay any attention to college. Also I could just have a bad memory
LeBron was also Taurean Prince’s teammate in LA, and apparently they’re friends. So I imagine that makes it stick in his mind even more.
For real, do people seem to forget that LeBron is like– a fan of basketball, for some reason? lol.
Dude just needed an excuse to drop that he picked that game correctly. No judgement either it was a good opening and if probably do the same lol
I’ll have you know that pick is STILL very legendary by the way sir
Haha absolute legend my friend, and a top notch shoe-in too lol. Consider my hat topped
They were teammates on the Lakers 3 seasons ago
I imagine every coach in Taurean Prince’s career has probably played that clip in film room whenever the team has a bad rebounding game.
It probably goes so hard the first time early in the season.
darvin Hamas favorite player
Bro lol
I feel like everyone does. It was iconic. Just like “they were who we thought they were.” Stuff like that
It was rementioned to LeBron several times when Prince was on the Lakers with LeBron.
“So they got more of those than we did.”
Taurean Prince was on the bench for the Pistons in this game, probably jogged his memory.
Tbf Lebron was 40 when that happened
When people say LeBron has a good memory. That’s an understatement. He’s probably the goat NBA player in terms of that.
probably came across it on his Tiktok feed recently.
Charles Barkley said in an interview players always ask him for tips on rebounding. He said “you just gotta want the damn ball!”
Barkley was a MONSTER on the boards. He was only 6’6 and out rebounding 7ft centers and bigger power forwards. Even in his last season when he was injury ridden and out of shape, he still grabbed over 10rebs per game.
I mean, Dennis Rodman was only 6’7 and had multiple seasons with 18 rebound average.
To be fair it helped that Rodman was crazy.
Rodman was damn near scientific about it, he talks about watching for rotations and spin while the shot is coming to the basket. He was a genius.
I choose to believe all that bullshit is true
Barkley was hulk level strong though. But i agree with your point
They be taking advice from the opponent now!?
Prince should tell LeBron “hey Bron did you know it will be better for 76ers in the long run to lose against us every time?”. I mean what harm is there to try? Lol

I mean they did play together
Are the Detroit Pistons the greatest basketball team of all time? Many people are saying “yes”.
They come to me and say, and they’re very smart and know basketbal. They say, “sir, the Pistons are the greatest basketball team of all time.”
Were there tears in their eyes? That’s what I heard.
When you want great basketball, great basketball players, it’s the Pistons that are the greatest. They don’t eat pets like the other teams. The other teams are fake news. The Pistons are a great team who work very hard to beat the other dirty players.
“Look, having rebound— my uncle was a great basketball player and coach, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart — you know, if you’re a conservative Pistons, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Bulls, they would say I’m one of the smartest player anywhere in the world — it’s true! — but when you’re a conservative Pistons they try — oh, do they buy Air Jordan— that’s why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good basketball players, went there, went there, did this, freaking everyone like MJ— you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we’re a little disadvantaged — but you look at the rebounding, the thing that really bothers me — it would have been so easy, and it’s not as important as these lives are — rebounding is so important; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what’s going to happen and he was right, who would have thought? — but when you look at what’s going on with the four old Sixers— now it used to be three, now it’s four — but when it was three and even now, I would have said it’s all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don’t, they haven’t figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it’s gonna take them about another 150 years — but the Lakers are great rebounders, the Pistons are great rebounders, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us on the glass, this is horrible.”
Which Piston’s ass would Trump be most impressed by?
Yes
If not just you saying it. Everyone’s saying it. Sports illustrated says it. Bleacher report says it.

I noticed many modern NBA players don’t box out for a rebound when shots go up, and just watch for the way the ball bounces.
I don’t keep up with NBA anymore (mostly lurk here) but I do remember Taurean coming into the league as a rookie. LeBron has obviously been the old guy for the last few years but it’s still crazy for me to see him reference a younger guy who is now a vet himself (had to google whether he is still in the league)
Shoot LeBron even played against the other T.Prince that came before him.
I’d trying having the dude playing center stand under the rim to increase his chances of getting a rebound instead of hanging out on the wing guarding a patch of floor.
That dude wants to be a guard
lesocrates
he has to clarify “with two hands” though
Taurean prince mentioned
They need to go to the Dennis Rodman School of Very Good Math Students.
Just a king quoting his prince
He’s not wrong. Heard a juniors coach telling some 12 yo the other day. You have to jump to get the rebound, if you don’t jump it’s just not gonna happen.
Elite ball knowledge
That knowledge got him 2 rebounds.
Years ago when former Bulls HC Scott Skiles was asked how Eddy Curry could improve his rebounding, he said, “Jump”
it is truly an all-timer quote from prince, but getting rebounds is obviously not as simple as “ball goes up, go grab it”
there’s situational awareness of the play, reflexively gaining position, dropping the center of gravity to box out, and timing your jump – it’s an actual skill, i’m pretty sure
It’s a born skill. But can be taught really well.
It’s a position, anticipation, mental and statistical game.
I played ball at the highest level in my country. I was a Charles Barkley type. Not to tallest not the fastest nor the most talented.
But I had a nose for the ball, I knew 80% of the time where the shot would end up. This doesn’t mean I would get it 80% of the time but that’s when you anticipate and move in a better position.
The rest is major hustle and work ethic.I would push taller players under or on the wrong side of the basket because they can’t jump through the hoop to get it.
The NBA has a lot of lazy rebounders. No or terrible boxouts, terrible situational awareness, no hustle, bad work ethics.
there are definitely lazy rebounders out there in the NBA. but I also think a large part of it is guys are so strong and so fast, and the game is called pretty heavily in favor of the offensive player, that most gameplans consider it more important to get back to the other side of the floor rather than fight for a contested rebound in many cases
This excuse would explain poor offensive rebounding numbers, not defensive rebounding. By this theory, it should be easier for them to secure defensive rebounds, which is their problem
no it absolutely goes both ways, that’s exactly what i mean
players on both sides of the ball seem to prioritize getting back down the floor, either to gain an advantage on offense or fight that advantage. modern stretch spacing and defensive schemes also play a big role. sure there’s some laziness too ofc
Dennis Rodman used to spend shootaround watching other guys’ misses come off the rim. You can definitely learn which part of the floor some bricklayer on your team is likely to clank to.
I think Charles Barkley put a flow chart together on this. He has a mental checklist he walks through on every rebound.
I relate to the Prince comment so much. When I was younger I was athletic enough to out jump and out hustle everyone so it really was “see ball, get ball”. Also I sucked at shooting so my role was play defense, get the rebound, and drive and pass.
Now I’m mid thirties and it’s way more complex than that 😂
That’s not the point. The reporter asked an asinine question and got out witted by a college kid.
well it’s my point.
tbh i’d say that reporter’s question to prince was more just insulting than it was asinine at its core, i mean the phrasing basically implied “yale sucks and they still outrebounded you”. and i agree there’s nothing wrong with answering that sarcastically
but if somebody just asked lebron “how do you fix your rebounding problems” here (i didnt see the scrum and the question isnt in the clip) then lebron’s funnyman answer here is very much missing the point. bc there are ways to improve rebounding other than “jump, catch ball”
Cheers lad innit
Game’s not gone
I can finally take down the Xmas tree, you know
Dead internet theory good lord man
