Shai Gilgeous-Aleander’s initial reaction to Jalen Williams’ gruesome injury
the kind of injury that can just mentally destroy a team, now with cason and jdub out for possibly the season this season looks very bleak
Wait what happened to Cason?
Shoulder injury
Illegal screen, dislocated shoulder most likely
Jesus christ I didn’t watch this game because I thought it would be a blowout were they playing fucking football out there or what.
Refs swallowing whistle and yes it became football.
There were at least 3 instances of Clippers doing the Zaza undercut. They were reckless all night. The type of game where the refs definitely needed to “get it under control” before someone got hurt.
Refs got the memo “don’t send OKC to the line” and heard “don’t call anything a foul”
Jesus fucking christ season from hell
Yeah. I’m a wreck.
This fucking screens have been getting out of hand this last few season and the nab only has itself to blame, players are moving way too much on them
Yeah people complain about the whistle, but when you just let people play football, this kind of shit happens
Could that really be out for the season?
if it was actually a shoulder dislocation it can be like short as a month but up to like 6 months. depends if they tore anything or not
It just depends on ligament/labrum damage. It’s hard to really know without imaging and it’s kind of just a luck thing with that
Eh no I wouldn’t think so. I actually didn’t see it because the stream was having issues
Jesus Christ. Absolutely brutal day for OKC. That’s awful
A dislocated shoulder is not a season ending injury at all…
It can be - the shoulder joint is strange, and it can take some time to stabilise again. It’s not likely that it’s season-ending, but if other damage occurred in the process, then it can take a long time to recover from.
It has the potential to be. I’ve seen it many a time in BJJ and Rugby. Shoulder pops violently, labrum tears, keyhole surgery plus months of PT/rehab to even be able to carry weight above your head. It’s also not the kind of stuff that heals on its own and will lead to subsequent dislocations much more frequently.
Didn’t say it was
Man someone gotta pop that shit back in place. Cason should be fine
Thunder crying about calls. Imagine that
Hmm, idk bud. I think we are crying because we lost 3 players in a single game. We like our team.
Stfu
Might’ve dislocated his shoulder
something with left shoulder
Possible shoulder dislocation in the first quarter
Edit: who are the fucksticks downvoting this very accurate observation
That’s alright dawg, it’s OKC
Dark. Dub played on paper mache wrist ligaments to bring Oklahoma a chip, suffered all last season with the hammy and now this.
Seems like such a genuine dude too. Super dark stuff. Sports can be so demoralizing
He deserves a healthy season man, I’ll never forget that nuke he dropped against the Pacers
I think he was the youngest player to drop a 40 piece in the finals. Devastating.
5th youngest player to ever drop 40 or more in an NBA Finals game & the 2nd youngest Thunder to drop 40 in a Finals game. Can’t believe the string of bad luck he’s had since the chip man
Magic, Rick Barry, Russ, Jerry West and J-Dub were the top 5 youngest to score 40 in a Finals game. Insane company. Hope he can get back better than ever.
I’ll take tens of millions of dollars for the demoralization. What’s demoralizing is not being able to feed your kids or losing your job with no savings. It sucks but put it into context
I get it but this feels tone deaf. Life hits hard for everyone.
It hits harder for those who don’t have much, and I say this as someone who is relatively successful. A bad thing happening to me isn’t as tragic as a bad thing happening to someone struggling
So if something tragic happens to you please tell us and we can decide if we are fine with it
Bro you’ve probably never dedicated your life on anything as much as he has to basketball. Just go back to your moms basement where she can take care of you.
Why?…. Just why??? Why do you feel the need to compare whose life is worse right now?? It wasn’t even “this is the worse to ever happen to someone” exaggeration. Anyone that’s ever played sports know injuries suck and can be a huge downer. That’s all… Choosing to be a dick right now speaks volumes
Because he’s paid to take this risk. He’s paid much more than any of us will make in a lifetime to take this risk. It sucks but we don’t need to be all weepy over it. We should be crying over the factory worker who just lost his hand to a machine and can’t work, not someone who is set for life and made generational money for his family.
Yeah bro I don’t have limited empathy to give out I can feel bad for both of those situations. Weird ass comment
Why can’t we do both?? Literally nobody but you is making a comparison. Yeah your example sucks. War sucks. Not being able to make rent sucks. Losing a loved one sucks. Breakups suck. So what?? This sucks too. Who cares on what scale. If it sucks it sucks. I hope you never claim to have a bad day or sad times in your life, because it’s nothing compared to a suffering child in Africa so you should just zip it, right?
Shut up dawg
Make me
What outcry have you uttered about my person, you oafish brute? I shall cordially remind you that I was the best scholar in my law class in Oxford, and I have been involved in several frivolous tea parties and courtroom disputes, and I have over 300 boxes of Earl Gray. I am proficient in the Simian school of diplomacy and I am the top linguist in my book club. Know that you resemble nothing in my eyes save for yet another uncultured mind. I will hasten your undisputed expiration from the world with grace and finesse. The thought that you can retreat after jesting of such matters over the internet is laughable. As of this moment, I am telephoning a mutual friend to negotiate a swift and sure rebuttal to your argument so I would implore you to prepare yourself for the upcoming verbal deluge. The deluge that will no doubt saturate your life with discomfort. You are well and truly wrong, my good sir. My abilities of travel are unmatched, and I can recite over 700 lines from Shakespeare, and that is just from Hamlet. The amount of knowledge that I have accrued is vast, and I shall use it to firmly state my authority on such matters, you rapscallion. Truly, I wish you had some semblance of knowledge on the matter you have brought up and its repercussions. Alas, you did not, and now you will suffer a fate most dire, you plebeian. I shall defecate concentrated dislike upon you and you shall struggle to survive in its waters. Pistols at dawn, old boy.
You realize suffering isn’t a competition, right? Nobody is suggesting an NBA player getting hurt is worse than someone struggling to feed their family. A guy just suffered a gruesome injury doing what he loves, and your first instinct is to remind everyone how much money he makes. Being wealthy doesn’t make you immune to physical pain, months of rehab, or the emotional toll of potentially having your career derailed. You’re not providing some profound perspective here. You’re just confusing a lack of empathy with having your priorities straight. I hope you get the help you need.
Being wealthy makes you immune from all of the fallout that makes it so difficult in the first place. If this happens to a guy at the rec center who washes dishes, he will never walk right again. He may be financially ruined. He’ll be lucky to get any care at all if he lives in the US. He’ll walk with a limp the rest of his life. Jalen will come back strong as ever with no loss of income, a ncie long contract, and he’ll have no permenant issues. He’s immune from the consequences that poor people have which is why it’s different
You’re arguing against a point nobody made. Literally nobody is disputing that a wealthy professional athlete has access to better medical care and financial security than the average person. That doesn’t somehow make his suffering irrelevant. And it’s pretty remarkable that you’re confidently declaring he’ll make a full recovery with no permanent issues when the injury just happened. You have absolutely no idea what his long-term prognosis looks like. Money doesn’t guarantee that your body will ever be the same again. The fact that someone making minimum wage would face even worse consequences doesn’t make this any less devastating for him. Both things can be true simultaneously. You seem to think acknowledging one person’s suffering somehow diminishes another’s.Empathy isn’t a zero-sum game. You don’t have to ration it based on someone’s tax bracket. Unless you’re some sort of sociopath, you should be able to recognize that someone can be financially secure and still be genuinely suffering.
As someone who suffers from chronic pain partly due to an injury. Fuck you. Money does not make you immune from the mental anguish that injuries bring, especially if they turn into something chronic. Yes it helps a lot. No one is saying that it doesn’t, but it doesn’t magically make everything better.
It’s all the hyperbolic and highly performative language. “Super dark.”
It’s an ankle injury to a guy slated to make a couple hundred million dollars of guaranteed money over the next few years.
The ankle injury will not even be in the top 50 darkest things that happened in Oklahoma City tonight. People need to get a grip and grow up.
We’re in an NBA discussion thread, not conducting a citywide audit of human suffering. The fact that worse things happened in Oklahoma City tonight is both obvious and completely irrelevant. You’re treating “super dark” like it’s some objective ranking of tragedy rather than a perfectly reasonable reaction to watching someone’s career and physical well-being potentially change in an instant. And dismissing it as “an ankle injury” because he’s wealthy doesn’t make your argument more rational. It just makes it more reductive.
Again with all the comparing. Why can’t we have sympathy for ALL the unfortunate things we see and hear about. I have more fucks to give after seeing this news, Jalen Williams didn’t take it all.
Low iq take
Fuck those people who lose their job or struggle to feed their kids. Why should anyone feel bad for them when there are other people literally dying.
So you dont feel bad for them but feel bad for this guy ?
He’s making a point dawg
Your teammates are your brothers. This is gut wrenching.
I’m not even a OKC fan but I feel it too.
I can still appreciate and acknowledge how fucking hard Jdub must’ve worked to get back. And everything is now in jeopardy.
Rough times, hope they’re good mentally first and foremost.
You don’t have to be a fan of a team to not want them to get injured. Sucks so much. No one deserves that. I hope the best for him and his recovery and the team too.
Why would you have to be an OKC fan to feel bad?
Injuries like this are insane because it effects not only your friend, but also your ability to accomplish your own personal goals. And it also reminds you of how volatile your career is. I can only imagine all the emotions in these moments
I’m not sure what makes you think SGA is thinking about his “own personal goals” in a moment like this. He sees his close friend shatter his ankle and that’s where you think his mind goes to?
I mean it’s not like you’re a bad person to consider it. Brother u aren’t empathic 100% of your like. Of course you relate emotionally though your own situation.
just game 3 after being heavily injured last season. that’s gotta feel like a fucking punch in the gut
I mean you can hear it from the crowd. Everyone was feeling for J-Dub in that moment. That’s something you don’t want anyone to have happen to them and you definitely don’t want to witness it first hand playing a school yard game. Dude this is gut wrenching.
I remember the Chet injury. You could hear a fucking needle hit the court from how quiet it got.
hard to believe the thunder were just dominating everybody last 2 seasons and how everything goes down in one night is just brutal, basketball is unfair sometimes, prayers up to dub
They will be just a dominant as last year? Dub was out the entire year too.
I think there are more high level competitive teams now. They will still be awesome but i don’t think they will be as dominate as they were last year.
Not only that but they lost some good depth pieces in Joe and Wiggins
Nothing lost in lou dort though. That guy blows and everyone hates him
The rookies this year are freaking insane as well. Possibly the best draft class since Lebron’s.
I think they will be fine when Cason comes back they are still the deepest team in the league.
And the west pretty much stayed the same outside of Houston who looks cracked with an actual point guard on the roster.
Houston and T Wolves are both a lot better, and I think the Lakers are better as well. There are less outright tanking teams.
I still have them making the conference finals and shai MVP
I couple definitely see thst happening. They are still super deep and SGA is a beast.
My pick for MVP is Luka but SGA is probably a safer pick
Their wing defense already was pretty reliant on Williams this year, though, right? Dort carried a lot there for them last year and now their wing depth is pretty weak. It’s Caruso, then Kenrich Williams and then Brooks Barnhizer… that’s it.
They can stagger minutes with the other Williams at the three. If all they need is a defensive stopper.
Ajay Mitchell is under sized but only an inch smaller than Caruso and built pretty solid so he could play staggered minutes at the 3. I think the last thing the thunder needs to worry about is bodies to throw in the wings.
What do you think is a bigger issue for OKC besides wing depth?
they will still dominate. bet u good money on that
Sometimes?
Time for McCain to shine
But yeah I really hate when this happens, injuries freaking suck
they still are.
Still when Chet becomes your number two and drops four points like he has to social distance from the idea of shooting against Wemby a non injured Jdub could help a whole lot
Nah. SGA lost his 20 point streak. Its basically over for them
your comment is proof this sub is ass lol
Sarcasm. Didnt know i needed to spoon feed it with /s
Terrible. 3 players injured, and J Dub just got back.
wait, who are the other 2??
Cason with (potentially) a dislocated shoulder off an illegal screen, and then Jwill also left the came with a wrist injury (likely soreness).
Topic and Sorber both still remain out.
We also lost our 2nd round rookie to an achilles tear in the last game of preseason.
Damn :( I really thought I would be numb to injuries on your team and i’d not GAF at all, after I saw your team’s fans belittle Luka and Austin and calling their injuries fake.
The Thunder players love each other way in a way that’s really admirable
They are brotherhood through and through. I’ve never heard about any altercations/beefs from them ever.
Not even lamb chops
Or a little bit of gravy.
I don’t like watching gruesome injuries. Are we talking Paul George kinda thing for JDub?
It looks similar to Gordon Hayward’s injury as opposed to PG’s injury
Thanks for the description. I saw the Hayward one, and while I hate watching injuries I wanted to know what happened.
I regret watching the PG injury to this day. Freak injury and glad to see him still elite years later.
Yeah i never thought he’d be the same after that. Good thing that wasn’t the case. But apparently clean bone breaks are easier to come back from atheletically than soft tissue breaks.
Yeah. PG or Gordon Hayward
Definitely not PG.
Broken bone injuries do look gruesome, but they repair and heal well. Both PG and GH recovered 100% with no lingering effects.
If you think Hayward or George came back 100% then you’re delusional. Hayward was almost a ghost of himself. George came back better, but definitely not the same
Yeah that stretch when GH came back was sad it was like he would be staring down anytime he jumped or went airborne which tbh understandably so
George became a more skilled basketball player which let him expand his scoring capabilities, but the hypothetical LeBron-stopper PG13 was never realized. He went from being a top 1% athlete in the NBA to just above league average.
Edit: And just to be clear, it took PG 5 seasons to have a season where is production was arguably better than when he was 23. If you look at it season-by-season, PG had 1 season post-injury in which he was better than he was at 23 years old. I don’t think its fair to say we even came close to seeing Prime PG.
Hayward? Idk if his recovery was ever as good but it felt sorta mental. Pg def still ballin
But he had other unrelated injuries after the leg one that derailed his career. He did fully recovered from the leg one.
Gordon Hayward’s injury effectively destroyed his career. He was never the same again, constantly injured, and retired in his early 30s.
But that was due other injuries he sustained that were unrelated to his broken leg one.
What an insane comment what the fuck
Obviously, I’m comparing types of injuries and among the worst ones, broken tibia is not as bad (good thing) as acl or achilles tear.
Broke leg or dislocated ankle. Hopeful, but come the fuck on, let JDub have a healthy season.
He was fouled midair and basically fell on top of his own legs as they collapsed beneath him. The force of his own body weight appears to have dislocated or broken his ankle, leaving it dangling around 90 degrees to the left.
I’ll say, all things considered, still gruesome but both the fact that he was wearing tights and the fact that his initial emotional response seemed to be more disappointment than freak-out kind of helped lower my squeamishness just a bit.
FCC TV Fred Warner on the 9ers came back quick from gruesome injury
Ah….A talus break most likely.
How do know this is the case?
I snapped one playing tennis, the pain nearly made me pass out.
My buddy helped me get to the car, i got back hime and passed out with my leg in a bucket of ice after having to explain to my pregnant wife what happened.
Go to the ER first thing in the morning, admitted nurse comes in to take a look and says “HOLY SHI-, let meGo get the doctor”
5 min later…doctor takes the sheet off.
“Ohhhh yeah that’s broken lol, I’ll be right back”
He explains this is a severe injury and puts up the X-Ray (which of course causes my wife to puke) as it shows complete detachment.
“Congrats, you’re having surgery day after tomorrow”.
Anyways….
Get there for pre-OP, Doctor comes out with another attending. They ask if I’m ok with people observing, no pressure, I said I’ll sign whatever if they tell me why.
“We don’t see this injury often, only high impact situations like car crashes and NBA players, we see them on occasion since we work for the Orlando Magic”.
Had a nice hour back and forth talking about what happened right before going in, young guy was doing the surgery and explained that they are going to put a piece of metal across the ankle, 3-4 screws.
Would take another insane impact to break again, but…limited flexion both dorso & plantar, sprinting, jumping, squats all significantly reduced.
Biggest thing I had a problem with is trusting it, thinking about how painful it was used to give me hot flashes, a solid year before I felt like I could run.
I push off my left for everything because the right feels sluggish and it still gets swollen after a hard-workout sometimes nearly a decade later.
My wife went into labor while I was in surgery due to the shock (this is how she explains it lol).
Nerve block lasted just long enough for my daughter to be born, then more pain to the point I wanted to chop the damn thing off.
Hope he can resume his career, the feeling of a dangling ankle will never leave him though
Good story. I wish you and your ankle the very best.
his leg folded like an accordion
Lmao wtf
Yes. Resonates with the Hayward one as well
I broke my leg very similarly and wouldn’t recommend watching that video, I’ll just say that. Watching it made my stomach hurt.
Sorry to hear that. How far removed are you from your injury and how well do you feel you’ve healed?
I watched it once. Won’t again. But yeah like Hayward’s.
should be fracture - should be a one year recovery
Basically the same injury that happened to Chiefs WR Tyquan Thornton.
Dayum, bro…this sucks so bad.
I just hate this.
I’m genuinely praying for him and their team.
They are our current rivals. We want them healthy for the rivalry to be better. Feel bad for the okc fans. I hope they can bounce back with this.
Whether or not you like or respect a team, I don’t wish a stretcher job on anyone. I think we’re alike that way. I don’t know what else to say I’m really upset, but thank you.
Amen brother, prayers up🙏
Feels terrible man
Pretty awful shit. JDub got it bad.
I have loved to root against these guys for several seasons now. I do not love anything about any of this. Heartbreaking.
I love to hate on them, too, but no one roots for this. I watched their season opener and it was great to see him balling out after missing most of last season. Poor guy
I hate them too, but they are so good. I want someone to beat them at full strength and were not getting to see that. Spurs victory was a huge asterisk.
Wish him the speediest of recoveries.
I know they’ll all be fine and other people have real problems that need more attention than this, but as an oklahoma native I cried real tears for Jdub tonight. I will wake up tomorrow and continue to deal with my life but Im gonna miss seeing Jdub this season.
Heartbreaking man
I feel for these dudes really. I don’t wish injury on anyone at all, and by all accounts him and SGA are really solid people off the court.
Didn’t see any clips, what was the leg injury?
His tibia snapped in half and was flopping around it was fkn terrible
as I recall it was not the tibia but looked more like a dislocated/fractured ankle. his tibia looked straight and intact when he pulled his leg up, but the ankle was rotated exterior. either way….still gruesome.
I read reckless closeout by Dunn, did he caused the injury?
From what I remember in the clip that was posted earlier, it didn’t seem reckless just a regular contest at the rim. Could be wrong though, no way I was rewatching it. Just a freak injury as he landed awkwardly
Officials reviewed it and ruled a flagrant 1. They didn’t show a replay during the game though.
Reckless, yes but not “dirty” or foul play IMO
Gordan Hayward x2
Oh fuck no that clip is forever burned into my memory
Jesus Christ, man.
Bro can’t even spell Gordon right.
Come back 100%, Jalen.
That’s just fucking sad man
Awful injury, especially for one of the most likable young stars. Speedy recovery for him.
This is gut wrenching
Jdub just returned from an injury and now this happens. I feel so bad for him and the OKC team. Thoughts, prayers and healing energy to him.
Cannot believe they had to finish a 4-pt game with a minute left. Get well soon J-Dub. League is better when he’s healthy.
Prayers up man get well soon jalen🙏
Heartbreaking. And watching it happen to someone so close to you has to be traumatizing ugh
This is terrible. Dude just lost his teammate for the year, the dude that is supposed to be side by side by him for both of their career defining moments and he loses him for the second straight year. Just gutted.
Not to mention seeing a good friend of yours who battled back just have a career altering setback so fast.
Oh no bb I’m about ready to cry for him too. How awful after coming back from injury last year 😭
This happened to a kid on my high school soccer team. The game stopped for 20 minutes as the ambulance came. We went to the locker room balling our eyes out and puking. Then we had to go back out and play again.
Just postpone the game….
Yeah crazy cause some of these dudes are only a couple years removed from HS. The emotions no matter how old must be so raw. But damn to deal with something like this when you’re so young.
“Could you imagine MJ or Kobe crying like that?” - some former player on a shitty podcast tomorrow.
The way he got carted off…dude just looked mildly inconvenienced. Say what you want about the tiktok dances, thats a tough mf.
That’s shock
I don’t even like OKC and I’ve hate watched them for about three years now but this shit is sad.He basically just got back too, it’s sad asf
I want somebody to beat them when they’re at full strength not when they’re like this. Its just fucking sad, fate can be so cruel
