Is he stupid?

Reminds me of when Kobe decided to score 50+ in 5 straight games just so the Lakers could have a 5 game win streak

I’ll try spinning, that’s a good trick!

Are you questioning the thousands of comments that said “nico was right”?

Hehe thanks

NBA Reddit commandment #1 Thou shalt not hype the Lakers

Its interesting because a few of Jokics best scoring games have been insane efficiency too. But the truth is if he’s scoring that much it’s because the rest of the team isn’t showing up lol. If you look at his highest point games they often were 1) a huge first quarter points wise and then 2) an efficient shooting night by most of the starters through the 2nd and 3rd quarters

Different situations. Luka is the main scorer, so when he’s scoring 50 it’s because he has to yeah but it doesn’t mean the team is performing that differently than usual usage wise. If Joker is having to put up 40,50,60 points it’s because nobody else on his team can buy a bucket for whatever reason and he’s having to try to carry them, which is the complete opposite of how that team was built to play.

Essentially, one is a “normal” 50 piece and the other is a “fuck, everyone else must have been ass” 50.

3 MVPs, Finals MVP and a ring isn’t “nothing”, but it’s dumb to compare them in this case anyway. They’re both great. We should enjoy them without constantly comparing who’s better.

Insane.

The 77 part is hilarious tho, dude hates easy shots.

I don’t super pay attention after the trade, but that was a pretty common thing especially early in the Mavs days.

Notably after one of the playoff losses to the Clippers, our (stupid nepo baby) GM had a whole thing about how Luka needs to involve his teammates instead of taking the shots himself (Tim Hardaway Jr second option btw)

Whenever you hear about inane criticism thrown at a player the answer is always: Twitter

Absolutely they do, it’s one of the primary comparisons people make between SGA and him (alongside those things you mentioned)

It’s the idea he’s just accumulating volume stats without impacting winning

nobody who watches the games, I love it when he comes out the first quarter firing, and if hes hot, good night, coupled with a shit-eating grin on his face lol.

The criticism on his defense is also bs, he’s net positive on defense unlike some other superstars, despite taking possessions off.

he is never accused of this except for obscure weirdos

Who else? Kobe,  Dame, Jordan, Wilt, Elgin Baylor, maybe a few more.

Somehow Luka’s scoring seems more effortless than Harden’s peak.

Effortless is the perfect word.

I’ve seen others mention the same thing in here, but there are times when you’re watching him and think he’s having a bit of a stinker then the announcer says, “There goes Doncic with another 3. He’s got 30 for the night.” He scores so often and so easily it almost doesn’t register sometimes.

Even the previous game, where everyone was talking about what a terrible game he had (and to be fair, it wasn’t great), he still had like 23 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds or something.

His midrange is so underrated. He mastered his pull up middy out of pnr. Face up, turn around. Harden never has

I feel like it’s not crazy to say that at their peaks, Luka is better than KD?

KD never really went off in the way(s) Luka has

Jordan? Dude averaged 41 in the fucking Finals against Charles Barkley when teams were scoring like 90 a game. There’s levels to this shit. If you want to go by regular season, Jordan has 6 of the top 10 regular seasons ever played by VORP despite the shorter career and missing 2 seasons of his prime.

Some of Jordan’s stuff will be eclipsed but no one will ever come close to his scoring.

Kobe

Need the Lakers to have injuries or rested starters, playing a shitty team and Luka having one of his insane high volume high efficiency nights and it might be possible

Rent free

lol Shai clears Luka you don’t have to bring him into Luka threads

Wilt was the GOAT of putting up mind-boggling statistical records.

Like Paul Bunyan or some other tall tale.

there was like a 2 month stretch where kobe scored 50 like 5 times or something crazy

Kobe and MJ played in slower eras too

Wilt scored 50 in 7 consecutive games from 16 DEC 61 to 29 DEC 61.

The game before the streak, he had 43 and broke a 50-streak of 5 that started with a 78-point 43-rebound game against the Lakers on 8 DEC and was followed by ⁶¹⁄₃₆ and ⁵⁵⁄₂₆ against Chicago, then ⁵⁴⁄₂₅ against Detroit and ⁵²⁄₃₀ against Boston.

Between January 1960 and November 1964, Wilt had four ⁴⁰⁄₄₀ games against the Pistons and four ⁴⁰⁄₄₀ games against the rest of the league.

He scored 984 points in 19 games during January ‘62: that’s a 51.8 ppg average.

edit: details

My bad, misread +/- on/off as plain old +/-. Not much of a difference so “what I was trying to say” is literally the same.

Been doing it since he was a rookie

It just lines up too well and mf is a certified shooter too lmao

I prefer Hillbilly Kobe anyway.

Is this some kind of copypasta

People have been making the same comment about Luka for years, coaches and game commentators too. It’s like his number 1 folly.

assistinating

Who is the best playmaker + scorer then, if it’s not Luka?

One of the best passers I would say

Being a good human and playing for our parking at games.

Scoring and one of the best passers. That there is two thirds of basketball

Top three passer, what do you want him to be good at, jumping jacks?

Best at paying for fans’ parking. TY Luka!

Playing basketball.

Passing

Eating

Eating. Passing. Love. His new book.

Overall offense (scoring + playmaking)

Overwatch

Shit talking

Best at complaining to the refs maybe?

Yup. And Kessler was carrying an injury.

The Jazz did well today. And it is early games for the Lakers.

But Luka set the standard for himself and the Lakers in a front page advertisement. That means you have to beat those contending for a ring, not just those contending for play-in

This kind of game and vulnerabilities shown will not fly against the league’s best teams…

Walker Kessler was limited today IMHO substantially due to a training injury and the Lakers have no defensive big backup. Lakers need more team focus on defensive end. Great that you have Luka to pull you out with a superb performance. Not great that you needed a superb performance.

Anyway, it is early season and the team hasn’t quite settled in . But something to keep an eye on.

They played a smart defense

Jazz played well today. But Luka took a full page ad before the season started about a run for the championship

https://sports.yahoo.com/nba/article/luka-doncic-takes-out-full-page-ad-in-la-times-ahead-of-lakers-season-opener-wednesday-night-192639420.html

Tonight we start our run for a championship.

The season is long and it is early days. But there’s a lot of running and some improving to do.

Luka Magic is fun to see, but need the team to be better as the season progresses. 47 point quarters !?

Agree.

But keep an eye open - Kessler’s play was more limited today (partly due to injury), and Lakers really need that defensive backup center…

https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/lakers-fans-raise-major-concerns-150557353.html?

You’re literally just lying. Shai and Luka have effectively the same true shooting in the playoffs over their careers, with Shai being +1% over him. Shai has proven he can sustain his efficiency unlike Luka, where his most inefficient performance is one of the rare exceptions he made it past the first round.

Shai outplayed Luka the last time Luka had a good playoffs

Most of the hate is because he’s on the Lakers.

If it happens, it happens. But knowing how the media moves MVP goalposts against Luka, I won’t be betting money on it. Just focus on what he can personally control. MVP has now become more of a popularity vote among the media voters anyway.

The word “reactionary” means right-wing / ultraconservative.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reactionary

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/reactionary

The more accurate word here would be “reactive.”

Leave it to a lakers fan to not know basic political terminology

dude was carrying grant williams, seth curry and a bunch of 10 day contracts averaging 37/10/10 and media called it a slow start when all his team was down early in the ²³⁄₂₃ season…robbery

Tell that to Jokic

So…. Wemby

Lakers being top 3 would be crazy.

this isn’t true, last season shai wasn’t a lock for mvp until like april

MVP has to be on a team that wins games homie

….. Giannis?

That’s dumb

Ok And? The game play with 4 quarter, what tf are we talking about?

He’s too smug

He’s accurate on the court AND with the Hanzo bow 😱

I was a fan if Mavs by proxy because 77 is one of my fav players, seeing how nico backstabbed him hurt like hell. I was genuinely a fan of that team too.

Asset wise, it was a horrendous trade for sure

Leverage wasnt the same. If clippers dont get pg they get no kawhi. You didnt have the same leverage

What people always fail to mention is that the primary goal of the trade from Nico’s standpoint was to get Anthony Davis, not to trade Luka.

Whether or not it was a good deal (it wasn’t) is secondary to the conversation. Nico valued AD so much that the Lakers were able to get Luka for him, Max and a first round pick. He didn’t value any other available player as much as that.

Yeah current wemby isnt playing like an mvp yet, but chances are very good he figures it out

Would definitely rather have Luka win over Wemby.

Actual perfect connection

Lamine has won it all bar the CL lets chill

He had two really bad games to start the season, so I wouldn’t call it a media narrative shift like it is something more than that.

Yeah but that was honestly a team effort. Everyone was a bit lazy and they were shooting crazy. The other 3 quarters we all seemed to have locked in.

The point is he made big defensive plays in the 2nd half while single handedly carrying LA to a win. And nobody ever cares. They’ll just continue saying he never plays defense regardless of how many games prove otherwise.

Did you forget to change your flair to the Sixers?

I get you’re hate watching the Lakers but try to be a bit less biased.

Nah I think Ant will be in serious discussions by December

If Luca and wemby both played at their peak potential this season, wemby will win. Not even close.

oh yeah can’t forget about Ant. Soo many MVP candidates this year!

He had a bad game 1 and has been totally fine games 2 and 3? Do any of you watch the games? He was +34 yesterday.

*go to work the next day sad

Shame, was hoping something like a Jan 6 type thing for Luka i thought you were a fan

Have a good day at work brother

What if he wins right before a day off?

Luka can still win MVP if Mike Pence has the courage to do the right thing

Sure, but the big difference in those Lebron teams is that they didn’t have consecutive super high win totals. The Thunder here will again win like 65 or something. Win totals is now what the voters value over a lot of stuff. Since I think Luka should have won MVP in 2024 but the Mavs just didn’t have the wins even at 50 I think to get him into the top 2.
