man and people thought KCP is washed. such a great pickup for sixers
Him, Simons and Dean Wade coming of the bench. Sixers are legit.
And don’t sleep on Barlow who was passable as a starter last year. He’s really a 4, but he actually had some good flashes as a smallball 5 in the playoffs when they bothered to try it
Agree, he is super versatile and just a good hustle guy. Much better ball skills than Bona.
Specifically HANDS myyy goodness Bona
I’m high on Philon too
He looked a little rough last night but it’s too be expected for his first NBA game. I think by the end of the season he’s firmly in the rotation.
I fuckin love Barlow. Swiss Army knife and gets into all aspects of the game
if they can get solid backup center. its really scary
They did get one, but he got injured.
yeah and bona looks like he has grease in his hand all the time
The previous point remains
I’m sure they’re gonna pounce on the first chance they get at a decent backup center.
Dudes getting a good amount of wide open 3’s and to his credit knocking them down pretty consistently and in big spots
Good ball movement always fun to watch.
i think it might have just been because he was on two garbage teams
Hey fuck you pal!!
But in all seriousness I was happy to have KCP while we did. We were too young to have a real role for him but I think having a vet around was a big plus for the young guys. Wish him the best.
might not be garbage anymore though
Needs good passers.
This. He was so valuable to that Nuggets championship run. Then he just wasn’t utilized correctly the following years
He doesn’t even have to do this all season, just play like this for one playoff series and you’re worth it
KCP IS washed. Give it another 15 games. The sixers are gonna be good regardless but that guys a bum
KCP gets revived lmao
A much needed movement shooter/ spotup
Once again I am apologizing for calling you Kentavious Caldwell Poop
My personal favourite is Kentavious Ball Well, Nope
I’d like to propose a slight change:
Can Tavious ball well? Nope.
Thank you for the game thread ammunition. This is gonna feed families the next time he turns the ball over
holy shit
Epic
Back when he was with the Lakers there was a meme where someone called him the Binary Mamba after games because his stat sheet would have nothing but 0’s and 1’s. Glad he is still doing good
What gift from Stu Lantz.
Joel’s playmaking was very good this game.
His playmaking has actually gotten pretty solid, he just doesn’t pass a ton as he is normally the main scorer, so maybe we’ll see more games like this in terms of his passing abilities
Hell id even argue he’s had this ability since the seasons where he started averaging 4+ assists, he just didn’t have the assets around him to complete the damn shots.
I think he has always been a pretty deadly playmaker once he gets the ball at the top of the key in his post spot. Does he leave his feet to pass sometimes and pay for it? Yea, but so does every other player so I’ll let it slide.
I was curious so I looked up his assist numbers and he’s averaged 4+ APG for the past five seasons, including 5.6 in 23-24, so it’s definitely part of his game that he’s refined as his career has progressed.
Historically, those are very strong assists numbers for a centre.
I’m still not used to positive Joel coverage in r/NBA….
Don’t worry as soon as he has a bad game the sharks will circle yet again. Meanwhile other players can choke away playoff leads and get no mentions.
And you shouldn’t get used to it either
And flair up
Embiid is such a great passer. It gets overlooked because he struggled early in his career and he coexists with Jokic, but I doubt there’s many, if any, bigs in history who could average 36ppg and still find time for 6apg like he was doing in 2024 before the injury
Hope someone posted the behind the back dime he threw earlier
I feel like after losing out to Joker for MVP a few years in a row Joel went out of his way to work on his passing. It shows. He has 1-2 of these a game, but they don’t always end in a bucket. Even last night he had a nifty little pass to VJ between his legs, but it didn’t fall.
He actually throws that between the legs pass often but it’s usually with Maxey. They run it as a regular screen action
He had a funny variation last night where it wasn’t between the legs but it was similar but even more deadly cuz of the accuracy
Embiid couldn’t get his assist numbers up for a while because our role players could NOT shoot. Almost all of his assists came from his two-man game with Maxey
He also had a BTB to VJ for three which did fall
he picks up an all-timers’ best skill every season and casually incorporates it into his game. his passing is just unbelievable now. other than his health, what hole does he have in his game?
Whenhe absorbs chris paul’s ability to limit turnovers, he will be complete
Yeah that’s still the main thing. He’s liable for a guard to come up behind him and snatch the ball at least twice a game
For all the hate he gets, he is truly a special player.
One of the biggest natural talents of the league
I will never forgive nba discourse for how they treated him. Best Sixer of all time without a doubt.
Dr J? Moses Malone?
Despite winning an mvp he’s arguably one of the greatest what ifs in history. Dude is hurt every year and every playoffs.
As much as I hate on the sixers and Embiid, dude is crazy talented.
All while being “infamously lazy”
Always such a dumb critique
He’s all the all-time leader in points per 36. Healthy Embiid damn well could have had a Wilt run.
None, I think a truly healthy Embiid career would have put him in the top 15 minimum
Health is why guys like Shaq and Wilt got to be Shaq and Wilt. The Leagues history is riddled with big guys what ifs.
Emphasis on minimum
yeah, he’s amazing at everything, really
It’s just his health. His game has no weaknesses. Hes probably the greatest sixer to ever play.
Healthy Embiid is one of the great centres of NBA history, in the tier of Shaq, Olajuwon, etc.
You mean 2023 when he averaged 35, 11, 6 and almost 2 bpg? Where he also played a whopping 39 games. Philly was 31-8 with him, and 47-35 overall. Sadly, unavailable is what is most distinctive about Embiid.
I doubt there’s many, if any, bigs in history who could average 36ppg and still find time for 6apg like he was doing in 2024 before the injury
“before the injury” is a very kind way of phrasing “in a 20-game stretch”. Two months? Prime Wilt could probably double those numbers if he really tried.
So, one person?
Is this one of those things where you say something wrong on the Internet so that other people are nerd sniped to do the leg work for you. Kareem averaged 38ppg/5.8apg over 25 in 1972, and that was my literal first guess.
He said “not many if any”. You found 2, who played 50-70 years ago… That’s a pretty reasonable thing to say. And if you want to well akcthually the whole thing Kareem didn’t average 6 assists and, Wilt “prolly could have done it”. So he is still right on the any part.
I don’t think so? I’m not really sure what that is . I was just impressed with how little it happens that’s all.
If your bar is prime Wilt, I think my point is made lol
Also prime Wilt never averaged more than 25ppg once he cranked up his passing over 6apg
He had a comparable season of 37ppg and 5apg, but that was playing 46mpg while Embiid was doing it in just 33mpg, not even accounting for the insane pace of Wilt’s era
When you adjust to per-possession, that season of Embiid’s was actually the highest points per possession in history by a solid margin
Jokic hasn’t ever averaged 30 in a season, but assists are better than the PPG difference between the two.
There’s only one ball though, right?
Later in the season: Sixers lose 3 in a row after selfishly sharing 4 balls
Not sure what Joel was doing passing the one ball to our seventh best player.
Edit: I can’t read
it was literally jaylen brown?
Ahh sorry I misread that.
That quote is about full games not single possessions. Do you understand?
Well they’ve had 20+ assists in each of the last 3 games so I think either way it’s idiotic
I get what you mean 20+ assists isn’t a lot lol.
20+ between just the starters
No I don’t understand. Every time I hear that stupid quote it kills my brain cells. If anything they’re overpassing the ball.
Yeah it’s not like anyone was saying the Sixers would never pass the ball. I’m sure Kobe passed it a lot too but that doesn’t mean there weren’t issues at other times.
Also I’d go even further and say that quote is more about an overall season / playoffs together where a team can become toxic. I’m not saying that’s likely but it seems silly to me to pretend that this clip somehow proves there won’t be issues sharing the ball at some other point in time
if there were going to be issues with ball movement, wouldn’t that be early on when they’re still figuring out how to play together?
I’d argue that issues with selfish play are less likely early on cause everyone’s happy to be there and compete for a championship. It’s moments in the playoffs for instance after a long season together where guys might feel more jaded if they aren’t getting enough shots
It’s always a Celtics flair in an Embiid thread shitting on him or the 76ers.
Where did I shit on Embiid or the sixers?
After watching KCP spend a season in Orlando tossing up so many bricks that they could’ve built Walt Disney World all over again, this hurts me on a deep level.
What leaving the Magic does to a MFer…
the magic 3pt shooting curse is kind of crazy. might be worse than the lakers shooting curse. curry could go to the magic and id be amazed if he broke 37% from 3
which is wild cause they arguably invented modern basketball
Desmond Bane shot over 39% from 3 last season, which by our standards means he might as well have been shooting at 75%.
Nah fuck y’all with this positive coverage. Keep that same energy ya had the past decade.
I still can’t believe people thought the Sixers were gonna have huge problems
lol it was a 4 point game with 2 min left against the Bucks.
And we won so what
As a Celtics fan even I admit this is great basketball to watch
I’m glad they figured out how to play with only one ball, because we all know there’s only one ball.
KCP has been great so far.
It’s impressive that almost 34 yo KCP, who many have said was washed up since he left the nuggets, is playing great and is a perfect 2-way role player fit on this team.
That corner three is pure!
Cant confirm, but there mustve been two balls on the court here.
I heard that they wouldnt be able to do this with one ball.
Beauty
If the sixers play unselfishly and play for each other they will win. When they start iso and play for themselves they will lose.
They’ve been fantastic isoing and playing my turn your turn though, it’s what they went to down the stretch of their first game against the Knicks and it worked great.
When things get into crunch time sometimes you need an iso bucket and luckily we have 5 guys who can be the one to deliver
Honestly reminds me of the 2011 Heat a little bit. They didn’t have a great flow to their offense but Lebron and Wade were so good at isoing that they could close out games in crunch time easily (until the finals at least).
I do think you need a guy who says this is my team. The Heat struggled with that. Early indication of this Sixers team is Maxey will have the ball in crunch time dictating actions
Hopefully we aren’t relying on VJ iso buckets much
If the Sixers play unselfishly and play for each other they will win.
~ old Chinese proverb
That’s a South Philly proverb
An old proverb from Gloria from South Philly, sitting on her front porch, covered in fake grass, sitting in an aluminum chair while smoking a Newport menthol surrounded by crumpled PBRs.
I dont think anyone in south Philly drink PBR. Lol
They can iso play for themselves and still win tho we saw it in the cavs game. Whole starting lineup can give u a 30 piece
i mean theres times when the game is slowing down, they will need to isoing. there just so much scoring talent in this team.
They’ve got some great iso options. There are absolutely times where leaning into that style of ball is the right move and they’ve done a great job alternating who that person is.
Jaylen Brown iso kinda nice tho 😏
Nah mixing in JB iso ball has been great, especially in the 4th
Starters are averaging collectively 25 assists a game. Kinda proving playing unselfishly is how they want to play.
Win the chip? No chance, they can win the division tho
Thinking they won’t win the chip is one thing. But saying no chance is pure cope dude. They’re clearly one of the most talented teams in the league. I’d love to hear why you think there’s no chance.
I don’t think they will bc embiid just can’t play well for 4 straight playoff series
I’m joking bro, but I don’t think they win because of health issues and a couple of teams in the West, and I’m still taking the Knicks in a 7-game series as well.
At least flair up so it makes more sense
Knicks arnt making it out of the first round.
Embiid avoids eye contact, a visibly offended JB refuses to shoot it. Is philly’s locker room cooked?
Embiid doing his best Jokic impression and it looks awkward af but in an endearing way
This would have 33k upvotes if it was Jokic lol
It would also have landed in Brown’s pocket.
like manna from heaven
Share one ball?
Why not two balls?
I say we give each player their own ball.
unselfishly
There’s a better word for that. Just saying…
What this team needs is Doc Rivers
If this was Jokic this would have 3K + upvotes lol
Surely you’re not suggesting the sixers are being ignored lolol. This is a video of them… passing the ball.
Nice play and all, but do you even know what a dagger is? Jesus christ, this was in the 3rd quarter
