hello all! as i’m sure you all know a diy christmas starts early, and this year i’m stumped for my dad. i really would like to do something that relates to fishing as he’s really gotten into it and has been able to do that more! he’s a saltwater/ocean fishing guy, which is apparently different hahaha!

i would love any and all suggestions or ideas! i really would LOVE to do something that would be practical or not just decorative but regardless, throw all the ideas at me! thank you all in advance :))

A nice piece of wood washed ashore and prepared for mounting a fish. Or a joke version which is finished and fish-less, labeled as the one that got away, but you should have seen it!

As an ocean fishing guy, I think he will never not appreciate good clothing. Warm hats, buffs or balakavas, made out of premium materials. Good gloves. Insulated pants. Stuff like this. I think you can easily research some nice little thing for him in that category.

A good thermos or maybe a thermo-container for prepared food would be an idea. Hot soup/stew after hours of fishing might just hit the spot. If he has the means to fill that up in the morning with some thing good, he would love that thing for sure.

Aaaaand I just now noticed in what sub I am. Oh boy. So maybe build him a rod-holder/container for his gear? There are some easy recipes out of pvc-tubing, filled with a pool noddle sliced open, so the delicate rod-blank is safely secured inside. Might be cool if he travels longer distances with his gear. And depending on his style of fishing maybe a good club for killing/stunning fish or even a gaff for landing bigger fish on a boat. Both should be a cool DIY-project.

Don’t buy equipment for people’s hobbies unless you know their hobby and know what they need.

Fishing trip is a good shout. If he’s new to the hobby he might appreciate some lessons with an expert
