He’s not lying. He was a beast and would be more successful in this era. The most consistent and productive running mate for Steve Nash

100%. The player that has reminded me the most of him has been Aaron Gordon and Marion was a lot better.

FisherKelTath00 | GSW

This era would’ve truly suited him. He was the prototypical undersized 4, yet was an incredible rebounder for his size.

The Matrix’s versatility on both ends and ability to shoot is what helped the Suns’ 7 seconds or less offense that paved the way for the modern game. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he can adapt to the modern game easily.

Not to mention his Dallas stint were he was very effective even years later. Lot of our defense was structured but wouldnt be possible without him/Tyson holding down the fort

deknegt1990

1 | 2 hours ago

The fact he was a career 33% 3pt shooter with that T-rex shot release made teenaged me believe I could shoot just like Marion. (I very much couldn’t)

He made $134 million throughout his career. He’s chilling.

BAHatesToFly | NYK

Understood but he probably could have made 3x as much now. Christian Braun is making $125 million over the next five years, for example.

And magic and bird and Barkley and Shaq could’ve made more too. So what?

Marion was a top 10 highest paid player in his generation. He’d be worth like $500 million in this era.

I was just poking around and goddamn this 01-02 Suns team was nothing but all time random ass MBA names:

https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/PHO/2002.html

14 Charlie Bell 26 Jud Buechler 11 Joe Crispin 15 Vinny Del Negro 00 Tony Delk 4 Alton Ford 24 Tom Gugliotta 1 Anfernee Hardaway 2 Joe Johnson 9 Dan Majerlel 3 Stephon Marbury 31 Shawn Marion 45 Bo Outlaw 10 Milt Palacio 54 Rodney Rogers 55 Daniel Santiago 25 Jake Tsakalidis 43 Jake Voskuhl 22 John Wallace

What a crazy roster of “that guys” from the 90’s and early 00’s.

This is just plain wrong… they were ahead of their time but they weren’t good enough at executing.

The game didn’t change by itself, but was ushered into this era when Steph Curry and the warriors started dominating with this play style. If that Suns team played in today’s era they would get bodied by teams who are way better at it.

My fantasy GOAT

Shawn Marion “I think I can play in every era personally. But definitely, this would be a lot more tailored to me because of how fast it is and me being able to go out one through five. (Make more money?) oh my god. I don’t know what it would be right now.”
