Hardware Troubleshooting Notice: If you are experiencing unreliable connections, boot loops, or missing serial communication, verify your hardware footprint:
Are your headers soldered? Pushing un-soldered raw header pins through module vias into a breadboard violates basic physics. Loose connections create parasitic capacitance and intermittent open circuits. Solder your board.
Did you include a schematic? Custom circuit issues require a legible schematic drawing.
If your hardware relies on putty, tape, or friction, please resolve your connections before demanding assistance from our domain experts.

This will work but be careful I do believe they have a 2.4v low cutoff and that is not really in spec for most batteries. The load (esp32) is powered while charging it can cause some situations where the module can confuse the charge termination and keep the cell held at 4.2v. Additional protection in that area can be added by adding a load sharing circuit P-Mosfet and a diode.
if you want to make it as compact as possible, get one of the esp32 boards with charging circuit already on board like the Seeed studio esp32c3 or c6, but there are others as well
Could you share a link? Most tp4056 modules are only for charging and battery protection. I usually have to add a small buck boost convertor to get stabke 5v out of it, otherwise it just reflects the battery’s voltage which fluctuates from 4.2-3v I see it also has a mt3608 but the text is being cut off, so they are probably selling it as a bundle. If that’s the case then yeah you can get those two, wire the mt3608 at the out + and - before reaching the esp and adjust it to 5v. Should work
I have the same one, and also a buck-converter to get to 5V… AND bought a button/switch to turn off the connection when charging (coz I have no idea what’ll happen to voltage when charging and want to protect my ESP32).
I might be doing parkour with all this though… However, I’ll lean on the side of “don’t assume things, measure them instead” … and say this 5V doesn’t work the way you think it does..
Neither the battery nor the charger will output 5V, or 3.3V.
