This is like the 50th time Joel has beaten the washed allegations. Every time this dude has a bad quarter or looks slow in a preseason game or whatever haters come out of the woodworks ready to saw he will never do X or Y again. Then a few games later he does X or Y.

He truly looked like he couldn’t take 2 steps without being in pain to start last season, it seemed more likely than not he was done being an all-nba contributor. Managed to work back to being a top center. Just absurd work effort to overcome injury after injury.
It’s not that I think he’s washed, I just don’t enjoy watching him play. It’s almost like ok we’re moving the ball and moving around the half court and then the ball gets to Embiid and it all just slows to a sails pace. Not saying he’s washed or that he’s not elite just a bit dull of a watch.

He used to be an absolute menace on defense. Rim protection, 1on1 defense, perimeter against smaller guards. Not to mention all the speed, agility and lift he lost on the offensive end. This is 50% of peak Joel, we got robbed of an all time great.

this is kinda crazy to say. the sixers have arguably been the franchise most affected by injuries to their superstar player in history (2nd only to the 2010s bulls maybe). it’s very probable that if embiid was less injury prone that the sixers have a championship right now.
even apart from that, 2024 embiid before he got injured literally looked like one of the best players to ever step on the floor, he was on pace to have a 2021 jokic or 2013 bron type of season.
I do hate the injury prone label, because a significant amount of them come playoff time were just complete flukes. I mean he had Bells Palsy and then the next year had Appendicitis. One of those years his own teammate broke his orbital bone

he’s clearly not washed. even his sloppy start wasn’t a new thing. he always looks sloppy to start the season (though in the past its been due to a lack of playing in preseason, while he did play in a preseason game or two this year). where his age shows is his lack of verticality and the fact that he’s at constant risk of severe injury. but he has always been able to dominate with skill and touch, so a lack of verticality won’t make him washed (though it does limit him against good rebounders).
further, not that you asked lol, i think his game will age very well into his late 30s if he unlocks the ability to be an efficient high volume 3pt shooter. and ive watched him pick up new skills every year on the way to becoming an elite nba scorer. so i dont doubt for a second that if he and his team agree it is a necessity for him to get to 38% plus on 7 plus 3s a game to extend his career, that he will accomplish it.
Of course, another serious injury to his knees could take him out, and that’s obviously, and sadly, very much on the table. however, if he avoids a career ending injury, don’t expect him to be washed anytime soon, even as his athleticism declines more and more. he has plenty of skill to make up for it.
