Hi! I want to make a costume that I can wear but also acts as a 20 sided dice. I want it to be able to spin or roll in some fashion and land on a number. I have no idea where to start. Does anyone have any ideas please?

I was thinking build a 20 sided frame out of some lightweight but strong metal wire and then make panels for the sides. But not sure how i could get it to spin while im wearing it.

Maybe make yourself into a dice tower instead and use a large foam D20 that can be rolled using your costume as the tower?

Similarly, could try going as the box of doom from Dropout, for example.

Can you make a wheel spinner like price is right and put it on your chest? Maybe a d20 helmet to go with. But if the goal is just to enable rolling a d20, a spinner will be easier.

Honestly the hardest part is that a real icosahedron big enough to wear won’t roll naturally on a flat surface, it’ll just kind of tumble awkwardly. You might have better luck with a giant hamster ball style approach where the D20 shell is slightly oversized and you’re suspended inside it, but even then landing on a specific face is tricky. The dice tower idea someone mentioned is probably way more practical and still looks great.

yeah, the physics really don’t work in your favor here. even a real D20 that size would need a perfectly flat, hard surface to tumble on, and you can’t exactly walk around on that all night. a spinner wheel mounted on a board you carry or wear on your chest would give you the same random-number energy and actually function at a party.

for a rolling d20 costume, starting with a lightweight frame is solid. maybe use a circle base to allow it to pivot at your waist, and you could try using some kind of lightweight fabric or foam panels to create the sides. attaching rollers or a bearing system might give it that spin when you give it a little push. also maybe consider a way to secure it while moving to keep it stable. sounds fun!
